4 GUEST SPEAKERS Shannon Phillips - Minist er of Enviroment and Parks and t he Albert a Climat e Change Of f ice in Rachel Not ley's Albert a NDP Government Shannon Phillips was elect ed on May 5, 2015 t o represent t he sout hern Albert a riding of Let hbridge-west. She is t he Minist er of Environment and Parks and t he Albert a Climat e Change Of f ice. Previously, she also served as t he Minist er for t he St at us of Women. Since t aking of f ice, Ms. Phillips has led t he government?s Climat e Leadership Plan which is designed t o diversif y t he economy, creat e new jobs and improve Albert a?s healt h. Prior t o being elect ed, Shannon worked wit h t he Albert a Federat ion of Labour, as a policy analyst for f ive years. She was also a member of t he board of direct ors, for f ive years, for t he Womanspace Resource Cent re, a non-prof it organizat ion t hat provides referrals, resources and educat ion t o t he communit y and t o individual women. Raised in Edmont on, Ms. Phillips graduat ed wit h honours f rom t he Universit y of Albert a wit h a Mast er of Art s Degree in polit ical science. She lives in Let hbridge wit h her t wo sons. Linda Silas - President of t he Canadian Federat ion of Nurses Unions A 5-foot feminist dynamo wit h a sof t heart and st rong st omach who is passionat e about making a dif ference in people?s lives. Linda Silas has been t he President of t he 200,000-st rong Canadian Federat ion of Nurses Unions (CFNU) since As t he dynamic and charismat ic leader of Canada?s largest nurses?organizat ion, Linda is recognized as t he foremost advocat e on behalf of nurses in Canada. Linda champions great er underst anding and act ion on social just ice, t he social det erminant s of healt h and key policies t hat will enhance socio-economic equit y, such as ret irement securit y for all workers, a nat ional pharmacare program, universal child care and great er access t o public services for Indigenous communit ies. Linda was previously t he President of t he New Brunswick Nurses Union (NBNU) for 10 years. Linda is a graduat e of l?universit é de Monct on, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and has pract iced in in ICU, emergency, and labour & delivery. Josh Bizjak - Direct or of Development, Broadbent Inst it ut e Josh has managed f undraising programs for campaigns at every level of polit ics and seen his candidat es elect ed and debt f ree. Josh prides himself on his out reach a wide array of st akeholders t o assist in t he advancement of a progressive agenda. Out side of polit ics Josh is well-regarded f undraising consult ant in t he NGO sect or specializing in capacit y building, int egrat ed syst ems, and revenue diversif icat ion. Josh will be sharing an analysis of t he Canadian Polit ical Landscape post St ephen Harper and what it t akes for progressives t o win in Saskat chewan. Who are t he players? What are inf luences? 5 Jared Clarke - Teacher and Climat e Change Educat or Jared Clarke is a t eacher, biologist, radio host and dad. Born and raised in Regina, SK, Jared current ly resides on a farm near Edenwold, SK wit h his wife Krist en and 6-year old t win girls, Rowan & Teal. Jared is a passionat e advocat e for t ackling climat e change in t he province, part icularly af t er part icipat ing in t he Climat e Realit y Leadership Training Corps in Pit t sburgh, Pennsylvania in Oct ober He has t aken his message of concern and hope t o numerous rural Saskat chewan communit ies close t o his home, as well as urban cent res. Jared also host s The Prairie Nat uralist on 91.3 FM CJTR, sharing his passion for wildlife and t he out doors wit h list eners weekly since February, 2016 and has recorded over 115 episodes. In May, 2018 Jared was select ed as a CBC Fut ure 40 Recipient in t he communit y, social act ivism and volunt eerism cat egory. Trish Hennessy - Incoming Execut ive Direct or f or Upst ream Trish Hennessy is t he incoming execut ive direct or of Upst ream.
