It is our hope that those who took advantage of this program achieved success in rebuilding their creditworthiness. Board of Directors Nominations and Election Procedures Barbara Greif and Irma Lorenz have been selected by the Nominating Committee to fill two vacancies on the 2017 ABCO FCU Board of Directors. ABCO Supports Operation Backpack for a Fifth Year This August, ABCO was proud to support The Center for Family Services Operation Backpack Drive for a fifth straight year. We were happy to contribute 50 backpacks for elementary to high school age children, as well as 50 picture books for preschool children in need. Operation Backpack is a community-wide initiative that provides support to disadvantaged children and teens throughout Southern New Jersey. The Center for Family Services provides the students in its programs with new backpacks filled with school supplies at the start of each school year. 3 BEWARE of Mystery Shopper Scam Scam tricks Secret Shoppers into depositing counterfeit checks There is a new scam victimizing unknowing individuals, including our members, that we d like to make you aware of. It is referred to as the Secret Shopper or Mystery Shopper scam, and its popularity is growing. Here s how it works: An offer for part-time employment as a Mystery Shopper is made through the mail or , or posted online through companies like Indeed or MoneyGram. The victim receives an employment packet from someone claiming to be with a legitimate company. The packet typically contains training materials along with a check that is usually between $2,000- $3,000. The victim is directed to act as a customer/member at their own financial institution, or one specified by the sender. He/she receives instructions to deposit the funds, keep a small percentage of the money as a commission and wire the majority of the funds back to the Secret Shopper company via Western Union or MoneyGram. What the victim of this scam does not realize is that this check is counterfeit and will be returned unpaid. Unfortunately, when the victim is finally notified by his/her financial institution that the fraudulent check has been returned, he/she is then responsible for the loss of the entire amount of the check. The Secret Shopper could be out hundreds or thousands of dollars. Please do not be fooled by these scams. If you receive a fraudulent check or believe you have been a victim of this scam, please contact your local law enforcement. You may also contact us with any questions.
