1 November 21, 2011 The Mayor and Members of Council City of Prince George, 1100 Patricia Boulevard, Prince George, BC RECEIVED NOV 2?n11 CITY MANAGER'S OFFICE CITY OF PRINCE GEORGS Your Worship and Members of Council: The Board of Prince George Crime Stoppers would like bring our yearly report to Council during January 2012, noting our successful year of outstanding 2011 Statistics, and introducing our plans for our Awareness Campaigns throughout Of course we work closely with the Prince George Detachment of the RCMP and our success is due to their constant support and work on behalf of the Citizens of Prince George. January is Crimestoppers Awareness Month and we hope you can meet with us during this month. President Jack Hooper and Vice-President Ron Polillo will present the report and the Board of Directors w be in attendance. We also look forward to presenting Council Members with our new Crime Stop} s' Toques. Thank ou, or your consideration of our request. it es for 2012, nc ely
2 Your Worship and Members of Council: I would like to introduce the Board Members of Prince George Crime Stoppers who are with us tonight. I am Jack Hooper, President, and beside me is Ron Polillo, Vice-President. Seated in the Gallery are: TBA Thank you for allowing us to come before you this evening to share some good news, in fact two pieces of good news. The first good news is that we are not here to ask for money. The second piece of good news is that Prince George Crime Stoppers has set another record year surpassing our tremendous results of We believe this is due to heightened community awareness and the excellent relationship we have with the Prince George Detachment of the RCMP through our Crime Stoppers Coordinator, Cpl. Craig Douglass, and his Assistant Brad Grantham. I don t want to make this all about numbers but I would be remiss if I did not mention several categories that standout and are records for this area. Firstly we received 757 tips in 2011, 143 more than last year. Due to those tips the RCMP arrested 31 perpetrators and cleared 36 case files. The Board authorized 25 tips for a total of $5,050 but only paid out 6 tipsters for a total of $1,035. I think this is a very strong indication that the public is reporting crime for the betterment of their community instead of the betterment of their pocketbook. And finally there was one hundred and eighty-three thousand, seven hundred and nineteen dollars in goods recovered, $183,719, most of which was returned to the rightful owners and six million, nine hundred and ninety thousand, five hundred and thirty five dollars, $6,990,535, in drugs recovered none of which was returned. This recovery is a 5% increase over our record set last year.
3 At this time I would like to have our Vice President, Ron Polillo give you some details of our activities over the last year and a brief preview of what we are planning for Ron. >>>> Ron >>>> As Jack mentioned we had a busy and successful year! We kicked off 2011 with our annual Crime Stoppers January Awareness month with our Welcomat and Brochure Presentation at Pine Centre Mall and Food Court, and we thank our many Welcomat sponsors, including City Hall, for their constant support. We had community appearances at Spruce Kings and Cougars Hockey, plus an extensive media campaign on our local Radio, TV, and paper. Other highlights included our community Hot Dog Barbeques, our weekly Most Wanted columns in the PG Free Press, reenactments on CKPG-TV and our ever popular fundraising golf tournament in June. With great support from our sponsors, local RCMP detachment and the City we raised $8000? We had the poster contest at PGSS and the winners were posted at Pine Centre Mall for a month as well as a placemat contest at Heritage Elementary with the winning design being reproduced 5,000 times and used on the tables in the Food Court at the mall for the month of January. The Crime Stoppers vehicle, sponsored by Wood Wheaton, continues to be seen around town driven by RCMP members and our Board Members as they attend various functions. We now invite you all to help us celebrate 2012 January Crime Stoppers month! Look for us at the UNBC Timberwolves basketball games at the Northern Sports Centre this Saturday, January 14 th, when both the men and women take on Langara College. We ll be giving away cool swag including an E-reader! On Saturday January 28 th look for your award winning program at the Prince George Coliseum when the Spruce Kings host the Vernon Vipers. Once again we ll have more prizes to give away and we ll have lots of information on how you can help Crime Stoppers makes Prince George a better place to live!
4 This coming year, our goals are to continue growth and awareness of the local program, a possible regionalization plan and stage our biggest and best golf tournament ever! >>>>> Jack >>>> Thanks Ron, in closing I would like to remind everyone of the 3 T s. TALK to our toll free number TIPS; TYPE in our website address pgcrimestoppers.bc.ca; or TEXT the word CRIMES that s using the keyword pgtips. I would entertain any questions with your Worships permission Jack Hooper, President PGCS
