1 Kathy Tran called the meeting to order at 7:04. PTA General Membership Meeting Minutes/Agenda April 3, 2018 at 7:00 PM Review of March General PTA Meeting Minutes & Old Business (Kathy Tran, President) Kathy Tran provided an update on the STEAM Lab Fundraising Drive, indicating that a total $10,348 had been raised to date. The PTA will be sending out a survey to the school community and holding a Townhall meeting to discuss fundraising, STEAM Lab and overall PTA activities for the coming year. Any funds that are raised this year over the $10,000 threshold will be held in reserve and applied to next year s fundraising goal. Along these lines, all funds raised at this week s Flight night will also go towards next year s fundraising goal. Tahnee Blauser moved to approve the March minutes; Ellen Dorey seconded the motion. The motion carried by voice vote. New business (Kathy Tran, President) Ellen Dorey shared that the school s Book Fair will occur the week of April 9. Treasurer s Update (Jamey Burden, Treasurer) Budget update through March 31, we have $34, in the bank, combined in checking and savings. Academic enhancements were due at the end of Feb, so those are being processed. Classroom teacher allowances have been coming in but still significant amounts remaining. Communications (John Bartos, Secretary) Provided calendar update, noting Flight night this Friday and International night on the 20th. Passed around two thank you cards from the First Grade team thanking the PTA for the Candyland Staff Appreciation event. Committee Updates (Rainey Chase, Vice President/Chairs) Reflections (Dawn Grote) Winners were recognized on the morning announcements. Projects on display in the school Science Expo (Anne Marie Chester, Aileen Chester) went really well; lots of good projects, paired up nicely with STEAM Lab. International Night (Ben Sigurdson) flyer coming home on Thursday folder. Its a free event, but asking for participants to bring a dish to share; SignupGenius is on Facebook and in the KIT. After School Activities (James Collins) spring programs started this week. Flag football was cancelled because of lack of interest. Parents need to pick up students at the front of the school to ensure facility remains secure after hours; OTA is communicating to individual parents.
2 PTA General Membership Meeting Minutes/Agenda April 3, 2018 at 7:00 PM Dine Out Night (Lon Naylor) One more dine out May 22/23 at Ledos. We usually get a big windfall from them. Thanks to Angela Stirling for helping make all the signs throughout the year CAPS (Ellen Dorey) Bright Star Theater assembly to show greatest sports heroes on April 19 Staff Appreciation (Janelle Bradford, Sally Barton) Candyland event in March was a big hit with the staff. Working on Staff Appreciation week doing a passport/international theme, taking the staff to a different country every day. Decreasing emphasis on having the kids do/bring something everyday. Blue & White Fun Night (Becky Schultz, Amanda Jones, Laurie Stewart) everything is set up, just tying up loose ends at this point. School Supply Packs (Katie McCroskey) will do them again next year, working on pricing with the company Volunteer Coordinator (Tahnee Blauser) rescheduled picture day to April 30, need 2 volunteers from 9 11 and 2 volunteers from Let Tahnee know Amanda Jones volunteered. Executive Board Nominating Committee (Janelle Bradford, Bill Birden, Tahnee Blauser). Janelle reviewed the process on how the nominating committee works, and then announced the slate, as recommended by the committee. The vote will be in May, one office at a time; additional nominations can be taken from the floor. If there is only one candidate for an office, vote will be by voice vote. Nominees for the 2018/2019 PTA Executive Board are: President Amanda Jones Vice President Rainey Chase Recording Secretary John Bartos Treasurer Jamey Burden Principal (Dr. Sheers) We had a successful STEAM Night that was very well attended will plan to do it again next year. Field trip to Udvar Hazy is this Friday; chaperones please bring big garbage bag in case the ground is wet community is a big part of our vision, so we re hoping to get a school wide picnic. WSES will participate in Autism Awareness Week of April 23, culminating with Friday being light it up day, encouraging everyone to wear blue. WSES is an autism center, two classes, with other students in the general classes. As a follow on to a prior month s discussion about WSES standardized test scores, there was a question on whether the standardized test scores for the autism program were being figured in the average for the school not right now because they re too young, but next year they will be in 3rd grade so they will be included. Announcements Next Meeting: May 1, 9 AM in the WSES Cafeteria (John Bartos, Secretary) Kathy Tran adjourned the meeting at 7:39
