Keane, EA IRS Guest Speaker Regina Malisham, IRS Stakeholder Liaison Kathryn is the principal tax professional at Macánta Corporation, a small family owned tax and related services practice located in Brooklyn, NY, serving over 975 individual clients and 70 businesses. Kathryn served two 3-year terms on the National Board of Directors of NATP. Kathryn is the only person in the history of NATP to be awarded Chapter Person of the Year three times. In 2002, 2008, and in 2015 recognizing her volunteer service to the community at Alabama Department of Labor Worker s Comp Division Ms. Sandy Hallmark Compliance Officer Regina began her career with the Internal Revenue Service in 1991 as a Revenue Officer. In 2010, she joined the Communications & Stakeholder Out-reach Division as a Stakeholder Liaison. She collaborates with tax professional organizations, small business, and industry associations to provide Sandy Hallmark has been in the insurance industry forty (40) years. 4 Tax Reform and Its Impact on Our 1040 Clients - (4) CPE Tax Updates Page 4 In this hands-on session, we will discuss the items from the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act of 2017 which impact 1040 filers. We will also review the impact on actual case studies. Upon completion of this session, attendees should be able to: Understand the 2018 Standard Deductions, loss of exemptions, and tax rates Utilize the expanded Child Tax Credit and new Family Tax Credit Implement planning strategies utilizing the 529 plan changes Recognize commonly used itemized deductions that are either eliminated or revamped Operating an Ethical Tax Practice - (2) CPE Ethics Recent tax law changes such as the PATH Act and Tax Reform introduce changes to how ax practices are handled. Due Diligence, Best Practices, and Safeguarding Taxpayer s Information are essential components to an ethical and successful tax practice. Can I hire a nanny? While the answer is yes, the question really should be why would I hire? This session examines the benefits and drawbacks of hiring a child, (as well as other family members), the obligations for federal tax matters with household and tax credits connected to employment such as the Work Opportunity Tax Credit and new items from the Tax Cuts & Jobs Act. Upon completion of this session, attendees should be able to: Discuss with clients the requirements when hiring the taxpayer s child Recognize federal tax obligations for household employers Comprehend the Work Opportunity Tax Credit and recognize when it is appropriate Worker s Compensation: Is it required? - No CPE The question of "Is Worker's Compensation required for my business?" is a question tax professionals are often asked. I/we don't have 5 people working, we aren't required to have coverage, right? Well this class explains the rules in language we can pass on to our clients. Upon completion of this session, attendees should be able to: Have a better understanding of the rules of workers compensation Discuss with clients the requirements of when workers compensation rules apply to their business. You must have an active member of the AL NATP as your sponsor. Your application must be received by the deadline date of April 28, You must be present at the AL NATP Fall Education & Annual Membership Meeting Conference on November 11 14, Scholarships will be awarded based on a point system that will include chapter involvement, community involvement, educational background and work history within the tax professional community.
