4 Class Description for Tennessee NATP September 21 and 22, 2017 Ethics - Where Do You Wear Your Ethics Participants will review the issues concerning the 21st Century tax professional, discovering that no matter how prepared we may be, ethical dilemmas will present themselves. Tax professionals will learn that ethical issues will continue to plague the industry but the issue is not the challenge to our ethics but how we deal with it and resolve the ethical dilemma. Circular 230 Federal Code of Regulations will be presented as our guide and 3 case studies of "how would you handle" will be offered. 100 minutes - Basic to Advanced LLC's, including Liquidations The presentation will begin with a review of basic LLC issues, what they are and what they are not. Examples will be presented to underscore the understanding of the attendee. Operational issues will be examined and finally the close or shut down of the LLC, how it is handled for tax purposes and the reporting requirements. Participants will have a thorough understanding of the Limited Liability Company, its operation and its demise. United State Tax Court and Cases that are Changing Our Practice The United States Tax Court, its workings and availability to taxpayers is examined and includes a brief history of the court for understanding.. Various recent cases ruled on by the court will be examined to emphasize that tax professionals can utilize these tax court cases to defend their client's actions and reporting as well as to reference them when tax situations present themselves. Reasonable Compensation Beginning with the issues of the individual taxpayer employing family members through all the federal tax classifications the issue of Reasonable Compensation is examined. Participants will discover what Reasonable Compensation means and how they can influence their taxpayers to comply with the law. The presentation will cover all federal tax classifications but concentrate on the Sub-chapter S corporation. Tax Professionals will learn how to audit proof their Sub-chapter S tax returns and ensure the correct reasonable compensation is paid. Fringe Benefits and Choice of Entity
5 Through a detailed example the participants will discover the importance of the federal tax classification for business to accomplish what their taxpayer desires in way of benefits offered by their business. Individuals, partnerships, corporations C & S are examined as well as the total picture offered by the Limited Liability Company. Tax Professionals will discover the benefit of planning for the entity to accomplish the wishes and goals of the taxpayer. Seniors and the Challenge of Taxation Tax Professional's working with Senior taxpayers encounter several challenging situations, including changes in income, exemptions and deductions. The particular health situation of the Senior may add to the complexities of tax return preparation - inability to continue to be active in their return preparation. The participants will discover the challenges of working with Senior clients and some of the actions they can take to make this challenging situation easier. Tax professionals will discover what overwhelming need the Senior has and how to make taxation for Seniors less taxing. 100 minutes - Basic to Advanced Tangible Property Regulations - The Practice Changer Participants will examine the Tangible Property Regulations and discover the fear they once had is a wonderful opportunity for their taxpayers. Form 3115 will be reviewed for the "how to" of the TPRs and case examples will be used to determine when the taxpayer should implement. The question of the need for a Cost Segregation Study will be answered as well as when is the optimum time to implement the use of the regulations. The NEW IRS and Today's Tax Professional The presentation includes a review of the current Internal Revenue Service,. it's focus and strategies. The problems that the IRS faces are the problems of the tax professional community. Participants will discover that the IRS problems will not go away in the current budget situation and how we need to be prepared for a much different engagement with the IRS then what we have encountered in prior years. Finally, tax professional's will review how we are perceived by the IRS and how people in the business of tax have much in common - those within the IRS and those from outside the IRS. 100 minutes - Basic to Advanced
