7 Introduction Welcome Thomson ONE Analytics is the Web-based investment research and analytic tool that combines your own data with real-time institutional content from Thomson Financial and third parties. The content is coupled with sophisticated functionality; enabling you to quickly identify investment opportunities and helping you reach superior investment decisions. The first section of the manual focuses on the Thomson ONE Analytics functionality. The chapters are organized according to the major and minor tasks listed in the navigation bar. See Using the Navigation Bar on page 3 for more information. The second section of the manual provides two workflow examples: 1. Picking stocks based on specific criteria, and 2. Tracking a group of stocks, or an individual stock. Through utilizing the workflow examples, you can navigate through Thomson ONE Analytics more efficiently to obtain the information you need most. How Thomson ONE Analytics is Used Thomson ONE Analytics is a robust Web-based application that allows you to complete the following: Monitor and view real-time First Call Notes and Research for your portfolio(s) and companies of interest View pricing data, earnings, growth prospects at the portfolio level, or drill down to view individual companies Access forecasts of earnings, revenues, long-term growth, per share items and price targets for the consensus Thomson Financial 1

For example, all chapters begin with an Overview and Objectives section. This section briefly summarizes the chapter topics and explains how they may relate to you. Furthermore, procedural information includes bolded and italicized words. Bolded words are buttons or tabs that you should click. Italicized words are names of menus, text boxes, or tables from which you may enter information or select data types. Notes provide important information that may only apply in special cases. TIPS are supplemental procedures on optional functionality to help you more fully understand Thomson ONE Analytics capabilities. Thomson Financial 2

9 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Introduction Logging on to Thomson ONE Analytics Thomson ONE Analytics supports Internet Explorer version 5.5 and Netscape version and higher. 1. Navigate your Internet browser to 2. Enter your Username and Password in their respective boxes. If you do not have a Username and Password, please contact your nearest Customer Support center (p. 2). 3. To save your Username and Password, click the Save my Username and Password check box. 4. Click Enter. Logon Screen Using the Navigation Bar The navigation bar directs you to the different parts of Thomson ONE Analytics. Each major tab has additional minor tabs below it. The minor tabs are visible after you click the major tab of your choice. The following are the major tabs in the navigation bar: Thomson ONE Analytics Navigation Bar Showing the Company Tab Highlighted and its Related Minor Tabs Home is the default page for new users. You may use the quick navigation area and view market activity on this page. Company includes overview information and details for a selected company. From here you may view the Snapshot, Detail, Consensus, Research, History, Estimates, Fundamentals, and Institutional Holdings information for the selected company. Portfolio displays the snapshot information for a selected portfolio. You may also View Portfolios, Maintain Portfolios, and view the Holdings information for the selected portfolio. 10 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Introduction Markets displays information on different market sectors and indices around the world. From this area you may view Country Aggregates, create Index Searches, search for global Commentary research reports and create Quick Aggregates. Screening displays significant price change information, earnings news events, and P/E ratios by sector. From this area you can also conduct quantitative screening (Q-Screening), view information for Brokers or Analysts, and search for specific Research documents. Publish allows you to post in-house estimates and quantitative data, as well as upload, index, and publish research to Thomson ONE Analytics. See the Glossary for the research formats that Thomson ONE Analytics accepts. Connect provides you with real-time access to premium broker content. You control the information you receive based on the criteria you identify in your preferences. You may leverage this secure communication framework to access only the most relevant information, and use Thomson Connect to distribute content to individuals who share your interests. Utility displays information about your account. From here you can edit your personal information, defaults, and private lists. Feedback allows you to send feedback to the product team regarding questions, issues, and enhancement requests. Using the Online Help Thomson ONE Analytics provides context-sensitive online help. Clicking Help on any page within the application opens a separate window filled with background information, term definitions, and procedures that are relevant for that page. Thomson Financial 4

11 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Introduction Working from the Home Tab Using the Quick Navigation From the Quick Navigation area of the Home page, you may quickly retrieve a company report, view or edit an existing portfolio, or view a market report by clicking on your desired link. Companies To Retrieve Information About a Company: 1. Enter a ticker symbol for a company, or type a company name in the Analyze a Company box. 2. Select the type of company report you wish to view (Snapshot, Detail, Consensus, Research, History, News & Events, Fundamentals, or Institutional Holdings). 12 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Introduction Portfolios To Retrieve Information About a Portfolio: 1. Select your desired portfolio from the Portfolio Activity drop-down menu. 2. Click Research to view commingled research or to search using date and contributor filters; click Revisions to view recent revisions and recommendation changes. 3. Click Create New Portfolio to create a new portfolio. Portfolio Activity Quick Navigation Thomson Connect From this area, you may: View your Inbox (optionally filtered by interest list or portfolio) to access packages sent to you from other users, or through one of the Premium Channels View Sent Items to view packages you've sent to other users Manage Contacts to create new relationships or maintain existing ones You can also create a new package ( ), to send content to recipients. 13 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Introduction Screening From the Screening area of the Home page you can create a new search or execute a saved search. To Create a New Search: 1. Select your desired screen type (Research, Quantitative, or Broker/Analyst) from the Create a new search below area. 2. Enter your search criteria and execute the search. (See Screening Research, p.82 for more information.) Screening Search To Run One of Your Saved Searches: 1. Select one of your saved filters from either the Research or Quant drop-down menus. 2. Click Run to execute the search. Running a Saved Search Market Activity Market Activity is displayed in the View Market Activity area of the Home page. 14 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Introduction Creating / Updating your Preferences & Defaults From the Utility tab, you may create and update your personal information, defaults (automatically loaded pages and preferences), and private lists. Personal Information Your personal information includes your first name, last name, address, company, position, and contact information. You may edit any of this information at any time. To Edit Your Personal Information: 1. Click the Utility tab, and then the Personal tab. 2. Make any necessary changes in the Personal Info list. 3. Click Save. Your LoginID is also listed on this page. To change your username or password, contact your local support desk. Account Defaults From this area in the Utility tab, you can change the different defaults for your account. Your default section is the section you first see upon logging into your account. Your default pages are the pages you first see when viewing different sections. You can also specify default values for the products, markets and tickers for specific pages. Thomson Financial 8

15 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Introduction To Change Your Account & Page Defaults: 1. Click the Utility tab, and then the Defaults tab. 2. Select your desired section from the Default Section drop-down menu. 3. If you d like the browser to appear on the foreground of your desktop, click the Force browser to foreground when pages load check box. 4. To change the default pages for each of the different sections, select your desired page from the different drop-down menus under Default Pages. 5. To change the default ticker: a. Select your desired ticker identifier from the Ticker Type dropdown box. b. Click the appropriate Contains, Begins with, or Is Exactly radio button. c. Type your desired company name or ticker in the text box. d. To search only on your default country (as specified below), click the Search only in default country check box. 6. To change the default country, benchmark, portfolio, region or broker, select your desired item from the appropriate drop-down menu. 7. To change your Research Defaults, select your desired options from the drop-down menus. 8. To change the temporary directory for the Batch Printing/Downloading default, click the Change defaults for Batch Print/Download link. The Batch Print Setup utility launches. a. Type your desired directory name in the Temporary File Directory box, OR Click Browse to search for your desired directory. b. Click OK. 9. Click Save. (Continued) Thomson Financial 9

16 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Introduction Utility Section and Page Defaults Private Lists From this area under the Utility tab, you may allow specific users within your organization to view your portfolios, quantitative searches, and research searches. Private lists are only viewable by you, and the people you select. Public lists are viewable by all of the contributors at your institution. When you set a portfolio, quantitative search, or research search as private, you create a private entitlement list where you are the only user allowed to view the selected information. By editing your private entitlement list, you may add selected users to your list. If you have saved a portfolio, quantitative or research search criteria as public, you must change the attribute to private in order to use private entitlement lists. Thomson Financial 10

17 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Introduction To Allow Other Users to View Private Items: 1. Click the Utility tab, and then the Private Lists tab. 2. Select the type of item you d like other users to see. The names of your private items are displayed in the List Name drop-down menu. 3. Select your desired list type: Portfolio, Quant Search, or Research Search. 4. Select the desired item from the List Name drop-down menu. 5. 18 Section 1: Using Thomson ONE Analytics Chapter 1 The Company Tab Overview & Objectives This chapter focuses on activities and data relating to specific companies and stocks. You may view recent company-related news and data to keep current on its status. This chapter provides instruction on the company research tools and functionality that allow you to analyze company level data. Thomson Financial 12

19 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 Selecting a Company You may view all of the following information for a company other than your default company by using the Select New By box. To select a different company: 1. Select your desired ticker identifier from the Select New By drop-down box. 2. Click the appropriate Contains, Begins with, or Is Exactly radio button. 3. Type your desired company name or ticker in the text box. 4. To search on your default country (as specified in the Utility section, see p. 9), click the Use Default Country check box. 5. Click Go. Select another Company Box Summary Information Each page under the Company tab includes a company summary tab for the company that you have selected: Price High and Low Price Last Reported (EPS Actual) Median Price Target Consensus Recommendation Lancer Expert Estimate User Forecasts See the Glossary for more information about the above topics. You may choose to view or hide this information (per page, except for the Snapshot page) by clicking the Show Summary / Hide Summary link at the top of each page except for the Snapshot page. 20 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 Thomson Connect Thomson Connect is a relationship-based communication system. From the Company and Portfolio pages, you may view your Inbox or Create a New Package. Your Inbox shows packages sent to you filtered by Company. Click the Inbox ( ) icon to go to your Inbox. You may create a new package by clicking on the Create ( ) icon. For more details on Thomson Connect, see p Company Snapshot The Company Snapshot provides an overview of the selected company. To View Company Snapshot: 1. Click the Company tab, and then the Snapshot tab. 2. If it s not already loaded, enter your desired ticker or company name in the Select another Company box and click Go. 21 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 Datastream Price The Datastream price chart shows the company s stock price history for the past six (6) months, relative to its index. Clicking either the graph, or the View Pricing link brings you to the Company History page where you may view a more detailed graph, along with a Historical Consensus Estimates table. Growth and P/E The growth and P/E graphs compare the growth and P/E of the current company to the overall growth and P/E of the industry that the company is a part of. The green bars represent bullish growth or P/E ratio compared to the industry, while red bars express bearish growth or P/E ratio compared to the industry. The graphs list the growth and P/E for the current year. Worldscope Fundamentals Recent Fundamentals provides several basic fundamental data items. The data listed is for the current and previous years. Fundamental data is available on an entitlement basis. Click View Fundamentals below the table to view the entire set of data. This is an entitled feature. For more information on entitled functionality, see Appendix B. To gain access to any functionality, please contact your local Customer Service Representative. Recent Research Recent Research displays the number of research notes and reports posted for a company in the last day, week, and month, therefore providing an indication of analyst activity for the company. The totals here do not reflect a user s individual research permissions, but instead show a complete list of documents received in the database. Not all users have permission to see every document. Research is available on an entitlement basis. Click View Research below the graph to view the reports for the selected company. This is an entitled feature. For more information on entitled functionality, see Appendix B. To gain access to any functionality, please contact your local Customer Service Representative. Upcoming Events Company summary information and any event announcements or press releases about the company are listed here. 22 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 Click the View All Events link to view all of the events for a company. Recent Filings This table provides a listing of recent filings with the SEC currently 10K and 10Q reports. Click the title of the filing to view the full report. Company Detail The Company Detail screen contains all of the analyst forecast data for all of the 20 available measures, such as earnings per share (EPS), sales (SAL), recommendations (RECS), and targets for a specific fiscal period. To View Company Details: 1. Click the Company tab, and then the Detail tab. 2. If it s not already loaded, enter your desired ticker or company name in the Select another Company box and click Go. 3. Select your desired measure from the Available Measures row. See the Glossary for abbreviation definitions. 4. Select your desired period from the Available Periods row. 5. Select your desired time summary (Period Summary or Fiscal Year Summary). Company Details Thomson Financial 16

23 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 To only view information for the past 30 days for any measure (see the Glossary for a complete list of measures and their definitions), click the Recent Estimates ( ) check box. The items on the table will be filtered so that only the estimates from the past 30 days will be displayed. To view all listed information, uncheck the box. You may also view the recommendations together with the estimates by clicking the Overlay Recommendations ( ) icon. The recommendations from each broker will be listed in a new column. (Recommendation estimates are only available in the Period Summary view.) The period summary and fiscal year summary list the measures available for a specified time period, such as fiscal years (FY), quarters (QTR), and long-term growth (LTG) periods. To view the period summary, click Period Summary. To view the fiscal year summary, click Fiscal Year Summary. TIPS Sorting You may sort the details by each of the different column heads. To sort the details, click the desired column head. To reverse the order, click the column heading a second time. Viewing Footnotes If you do not have Overlay Recommendations set, footnotes may be listed to the right of the Review column if an analyst provides additional information. To view a footnote, click the footnote icon ( ) for the item you want to view. The Footnote window will pop up listing any additional information. Filtering Items The details in the table can be filtered, allowing you to create a custom consensus. To remove an item from the calculation, click the check box under the Filter ( ) column. As you filter items, calculations in the Filtered row in the company summary information change. Viewing Broker/Analyst Details For more information on a specific broker or analyst, click the desired broker or analyst name and you will view details from the Screening section. Brokers and analyst data is available on an entitlement basis. Brokers with grayed-out data are typically on a different accounting basis, making the estimate incompatible with the other estimates. Clicking broker s footnote provides additional information. Grayedout estimates are removed from the consensus. Thomson Financial 17

24 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 Working with Excel To work with data in an Excel spreadsheet, click Export to Excel and an Excel spreadsheet will be launched with all of the information listed. You may view organizational sell side estimates for your selected company by clicking the Scatter Plot ( ) icon. The scatter plot shows all recent up, down, and neutral estimates. If you do not want to see the scatter plot as part of the listed data, click the Table icon. A description of what the abbreviated measure is in the Available Measures row is provided when you rest your mouse pointer over the measure. You may jump to broker research by clicking on your desired broker name in the Detail screen. Company Consensus The Thomson Financial estimate database provides daily updates of consensus-level EPS and sales estimates. More than 4,000 analysts from over 800 investment research departments worldwide contribute estimates and recommendations to our estimate databases. From this extensive collection of analyst estimates, Thomson Financial produces a consensus database that includes annual, interim and long-term growth rate estimates for corporations in the Americas, Europe, and Asia. For each forecast measure in the database, the Consensus Estimates table lists the consensus estimates given for a specific year (ANN), for a specific long-term growth (LTG) period, and for a specific quarter (QTR). 25 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 To Create a Consensus Report: 1. Click the Company tab, and then the Consensus tab. 2. If it s not already loaded, enter your desired ticker or company name in the Select another Company box and click Go. 3. Select your desired measure in the Available Measures row. Company Consensus Estimates Consensus Estimates Table The consensus estimates for EPS are displayed by default. To view the consensus estimates for other measures, such as sales, select the desired code from the column head. Earnings Surprise Data The Earnings Surprise table displays historical surprise data, going back either eight quarters and/or 2 years (depending on the data available). Surprise data is the difference between what analysts expected the company to earn versus what it actually earned, and is shown here as a percentage. P/E Ratio The price/earnings ratio for the company is based on the most recent day s closing price and the last forecasted annual earnings per share. Thomson Financial 19

26 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 The P/E ratio graph compares the P/E ratios of the current company to the overall P/E ratio of the industry that the company is a part of. The graph lists P/E ratios for the last actual reporting period, fiscal year (FY0), and the following fiscal years. Industry Relative The Industry Relative table combines the P/E Ratio information and the EPS Growth information. Calculated estimates for specified fiscal periods for the specific company (Comp) and its industry (Ind) are listed in the table. The P/E of the company in relation to the industry is listed in the Rel column. EPS Growth EPS Growth is the calculated estimates of year on year growth for the selected measure from the prior fiscal year to the current fiscal year, expressed as a percentage. FY0 is the last actual reported earnings per share. FY1 is the mean estimate of earnings per share for the current fiscal year. FY2 and FY3 are the mean estimates of earnings per share for the future fiscal years. TIPS Sorting You can sort the details listed by each of the different column heads by clicking on any of the column heads. The numerical details will be sorted in descending order. To reverse the order of the sort, click the column heading again. Working with Excel To work with data in an Excel spreadsheet, click Export to Excel. An Excel spreadsheet will be launched with all of the information listed. Thomson Financial 20

27 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 Company Research Through the Company Research screen, you may view different research documents and summary information for any company. Note: In order to receive research, you must have a First Call Web user name and password. You can enter your user name and password by clicking here on the Research screen. The broker entitlements in Thomson ONE Analytics will be the same as this ID for Research and Notes. To View Company Research: 1. Click the Company tab, and then the Research tab. 2. If it s not already loaded, enter your desired ticker or company name in the Select another Company box and click Go. 3. To filter by contributor, click Filter by Contributor. a. Click your desired contributor(s), OR Click Select All to select all contributors. b. Click Go. 4. Select your desired time frame in the Range drop-down menu, OR Enter specific dates in the To and From boxes, and click Go. 5. To view a research report or morning note, click on the desired item. 28 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 You can choose whether you want to see all full research reports, daily notes, or internal research. Daily notes consist of the morning notes for that company. To view full research reports, click Research. To view daily notes, click Notes. To view documents with product codes associated with the Bond Call product group, click Bond Call. To view internal research, click In-House. Searching for Similar Research Documents You may also search for other documents that are similar to a listed research document. To Search for a Similar Document: 1. Click the Search for similar link after the broker name and document length for the selected document. The Search for Similar pop-up window will appear. Search for Similar Research Window 2. 29 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 1 Viewing Similar Research To view the most requested reports, click Most-requested research for this company in the Company Summary section. The documents that had the highest readership statistics over the last 30 days will be retrieved. To view the contributors with the most submissions, click Contributors with the most submissions in the Company Summary section. Each of the contributors will be listed with their research and daily notes. The research totals do not reflect a user s individual research permissions, but instead show a complete list of documents received in the database. Click the Company tab, and then the History tab. 2. If it s not already loaded, enter your desired ticker or company name in the Select another Company box and click Go. Company Historical Estimates Datastream Price History You may view up to two years of historical pricing information in the Datastream Price History chart. To change the date range, click on the desired range above the chart. If you would like to view reported surprise information along with the price information, click Show Surprise. This will add a surprise chart showing the company s actual reported figures versus the consensus figures to the chart. The surprise gauges an analyst s forecast accuracy and is usually a driver of stock movement. A positive surprise means that the company s reported earnings were higher than the forecast. This data can be viewed for annual, interim, or long term growth (LTG) estimates for all measures, including earnings per share (EPS) or sales (SAL) measures. To change the measure or period type, click on the desired links above the table. TIPS To view additional consensus information, click the Consensus tab. The Consensus Estimates table, P/E Ratio graph, Industry Relative table, and EPS graph for the company are displayed. The full First Call Events is available to entitled subscribers. Please call your Customer Service Representative to access the full First Call Events offering. VCalendar is a standard format for calendar information interchange defined by the Internet Mail Consortium. First Call Events provides vcalendar-format event listings that subscribers can download directly into a compatible client or contact manager such as Outlook 98, Outlook 2000 or Lotus Organizer 6. For more information on vcalendar, please visit the Thomson ONE Analytics online Help, or The Corporate Events tab lists upcoming and past events for the company you selected. Some events are listed with a Vcard and/or an audio announcement. Vcards allow you to post the event to your electronic calendar. You may also listen to announcements. The Filings tab lists all of the SEC filings associated with the selected company. Corporate Releases (PR Newswire tab) lists any news releases that have been recently submitted. Each news item is listed with the date and time it was submitted. The news items are displayed in a new window. Thomson Financial/Carson is a global provider of capital markets information and advisory services relating to equity ownership and market activity to over 4,500 publicly traded companies and financial professionals in 45 countries. The institutional holdings are generally updated quarterly. To view the exact date that an index was updated, click your desired index. The date is posted at the bottom of the report. Furthermore, you may quickly obtain research on and track forecasts for the companies in your portfolios. This chapter guides you on how to manage your portfolio information in Thomson ONE Analytics. Selecting a Portfolio You may view all of the following information for a portfolio by using the Select a Portfolio drop-down menu. Select your desired portfolio from the menu. The annual growth rates are calculated from reported numbers and/or consensus forecasts. The long-term growth (LTG) estimate is the median calculated from discrete forecasts for a single business cycle. The historic growth rate is a regression calculated value of earning per share dividends over the past 20 quarters, or 5 years, based on reporting schedules. To View Growth: 1. See Importing, p. 45 for more details. Manually Creating a New Portfolio: 1. Click the Portfolio tab, and then the Maintain Portfolios tab. 2. Click Manual Entry. 3. Select New Portfolio from the Select a Portfolio drop-down menu. 4. To include holdings information, select Holdings, OR Select Portfolio to create a portfolio without holdings. Note: If your portfolio has holdings information, you must enter Manager s Name, Client s Name, Portfolio Currency, Shares Held, Purchase Price, and Local Currency information in the appropriate fields for the company you are listing. 5. Select the permissioning for this portfolio. To enable all users in your organization to view the portfolio, select Public. Select the information you are looking for (either Search by Stock Symbol, Search by Company Name begin with, or Search by Company Name contains) from the Choose which item you would like to search for list. 3. Click Search to retrieve the desired information. The company information will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. 4. Click Select to the right of your desired companies. 5. Click Add Selected Cos to add the selected companies to your portfolio. 6. Click Submit List on the confirmation screen. Company Lookup Importing You may import portfolios with or without holdings. Click Download required file format for specific importing requirements. Note: If your portfolio includes holdings, your imported file must meet the following specifications: It must be a comma-separated file (.csv). The currency codes should be ISO currency codes. This is used in currency conversions and must be standard. CUSIPS and SEDOLS should not contain any prefixes. Local tickers should not contain any country or exchange suffixes. Different managers and clients cannot have the same portfolio name. The Ticker, Country Code, Shares (Quantity) and Price fields are required. The company and portfolio exchange rates and portfolio market value fields are required for multiple-currency portfolios. Thomson Financial 45

52 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 2 You may set up your own conventions for country names. You must provide a listing when setting up the country names and ISO codes that you d like. We recommend that you include the countries of each stock because ticker/cusip/sedol matches will be based on the listed country information. To Import a New Portfolio: 1. Click the Portfolio tab, and then the Maintaining Portfolios tab. 2. Select New Portfolio from the Select a Portfolio drop-down menu. 3. Click the Import tab. 4. Enter the name and absolute path of the file you d like to import in the Source File, OR Click Browse. Select the file and click Open. The file name and its absolute path will now be listed in the Source File field. 5. Enter your portfolio name in the Portfolio Name field. 6. Indicate if your portfolio includes holdings. If it includes holdings, your file must meet specifications outlined above. 7. Select the proper identification for the companies in your file by using the How are the companies in your file identified drop-down menu. 8. Select whether you want the portfolio to be public or private. If it is public, every user in your company can view it. If it is private, only you can view the portfolio. 9. Click Import. If the file has met all required specifications, it will be imported. Note: Once you have imported a portfolio, you will no longer see the portfolio name that was previously listed in the current view. The imported portfolio takes precedence over any previously listed portfolio and will be listed in the current view. 53 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 2 Migrating Portfolios from First Call Web If you are a user of First Call Web, you may import your First Call Web portfolios into Thomson ONE Analytics using this feature. This process will create an identical portfolio in the Thomson ONE Analytics site. In the main table, all of the First Call Web portfolios that correspond to your First Call Web username are listed. To begin the migration process, click on the Import FC Web Portfolios tab, and then the Migrate button to the right of one of the portfolios. This will start the import process for that portfolio. If there are any identifier conflicts because of the differences in the two applications, you will be presented with a Confirmation page. From here you will be able to reconcile unmatched records and multiple identifiers. If a portfolio has already been migrated, you will see a date in the Migrated On filed in the main table Editing You may add another company, change a company that is listed, or remove a listed company from any portfolio that you created. An asterisk (*) next to the portfolio s name indicates a portfolio that you created. Manual Editing To Manually Edit a Portfolio: 1. Click the Portfolio tab, and then the Maintaining Portfolios tab. 2. Select the portfolio that you d like to edit from the Select a Portfolio drop-down menu. 3. Click the Manual Entry tab. 4. To add another company to the portfolio, enter the company information for each company in one of the Symbol, Company Name, or CUSIP/SEDOL fields. Note: If you do not know one or more of these company identifiers, click Lookup Symbol/Company Name/CUSIP. See Using the Portfolio Lookup Screen. 5. Manually Editing a Portfolio Import Editing To Edit a Portfolio by Importing a File: 1. Click the Portfolio tab, and then the Maintaining Portfolios tab. 2. Click the Import tab. 3. Select the portfolio you d like to edit from the Select a Portfolio drop-down menu. Note: You can only edit a portfolio that you created. An asterisk (*) next to the portfolio s name indicates a portfolio you created. 4. Enter the name and absolute path of the file you d like to import in the Source File, OR Click Browse. Editing a Portfolio through Importing Deleting To Delete a Portfolio: 1. Click the Portfolio tab, and then the Maintaining Portfolios tab. 2. Select the portfolio that you d like to delete from the Select a Portfolio drop-down menu. 3. Click the Delete icon ( ) on the top of the Manual Entry box. Note: You may only delete a portfolio that you created. 4. Click OK in the confirmation window to delete the portfolio. If you do not want to delete the portfolio, click Cancel. Additionally, the holdings table at the bottom provides the following details about the portfolio: Ticker: The ticker symbol for each company in the portfolio. Name: The company name of each company in the portfolio. Currency: The currency of the company in the portfolio. Quantity: The number of shares held of each company. Price: The most recent updated price per share of the company from the portfolio import. Note: This does not draw upon Thomson ONE Analytics Datastream pricing databases. MKT Value: The market value is the current market capitalization from the I/B/E/S database, shown in the portfolio currency. Gain/Loss: This is the amount that has been gained/lost in the portfolio comparing the purchase price to currency of the current price. %Assets: The Percent Assets is the holding of the specific company in relation to the entire portfolio. A market s performance is often an indicator of how a particular security may perform. Thomson ONE Analytics provides numerous approaches to market-level data. You may search on specific countries, sectors, indices, etc. You may also view Datastream macroeconomic indicators to understand underlying economic trends. This chapter outlines the marketlevel data and the related content and functionality available through Thomson ONE Analytics. Markets Snapshot The Markets Snapshot page displays research headlines that focus on economic trends and strategy for a particular region. The research headlines scroll in a date and time sequence. The values in this table are updated monthly. The number of estimates (#Ests), number of revisions up (Up) and number of revisions down (Dn) are listed. The percentage of revisions up and down are also listed under %Up and %Dn. These values are based on the total number of revisions up or down for all companies in the given country and the total number of revisions for all companies. The countries in red are the countries with the greatest %Dn, while the countries in green are the ones with the greatest %Up. Overall world growth is also listed here. To view the growth section of the country aggregate report, click View Country Aggregate Report Growth. Recent Economic Research Recent Economic Research displays research headlines focusing on strategy and economic trends in a particular region. To view a report about a recently listed economic event, click your desired headline. TIP Scrolling headlines are limited to a single region. To change the current region, select your desired region in the Utility section. See Account Defaults, p. 8 for more information. Markets Country Aggregates From the Country Aggregates screen you may view different types of country aggregate data reports and sort them according to your desired criteria. This information helps you compare different countries aggregated data to monitor trends and then make superior investment decisions. The following aggregate information is available: Fiscal Year Overview (FY Overview) lists aggregate data items, such as a summary of key measures (EPS Mean, P/E Ratio, Growth, etc.) and various revisions data for available countries over different fiscal periods. Datastream s global database holds millions of time series for financial instruments, securities and indicators for over 175 countries and 60 markets worldwide, including 30 years or more historical depth for some series. Data is sourced directly from exchanges, leading international and local suppliers, and published reports. Macro Key Indicators include: the Annual GDP % Change, the Unemployment Rate (as a percentage), the Government Budget Surplus/Deficit, and the Annual CPI % Change. The Monetary Indicators include: the Long Term Government Bond Yield, the Short Term Market Interest Rate, the country s monetary unit compared to the US Dollar, and the country s monetary unit compared to the Euro Dollar. The three databases, Global Aggregates, Sector & Industry Aggregates, and S&P 500 Aggregates, provide aggregated quantitative information to help you make asset allocation and global valuation decisions consistent with your investment style. This data includes revision activity and historical data to help you identify trends and changes in market sentiment. You may use this information for cross-border valuation analysis, for comparison of one market to another, for each market to its historical averages, or for each stock to its home market. To Search for Index Aggregates: 1. Click the Markets tab, and then the Index Search tab. 2. Select the country you wish to search on from the Select Country list. 3. These searches take a topdown approach for quantitative company data and broker and analyst statistics. A green bar next to a listed company indicates a positive price change while a red bar indicates a negative price change. To view more information on a company, click the company s ticker. Earnings News Events The news displayed in this table is generated dynamically for companies that have had activity in the past day. News corresponding to high numbers of revisions and company pre-announcements are some of the types of data displayed here. To view more information on a company, click the company s ticker. P/E Ratios by Sector or Industry This graph compares the P/E Ratio for the current year and the following year. 79 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual Chapter 4 Screening Q-Screen With Quantitative Screening, you may create a specified search for companies based on numerical or descriptive data. Numerical data includes criteria such as EPS, CPS, SAL, P/E and Growth, Aggregates, Fundamental and Pricing Data. Descriptive data includes criteria such as Background Information and Research Data. All searches can bring back research via the Research Report tab. To Search for Companies Using Descriptive Data: 1. Click the Screening tab, and then the Q-Screen tab. 2. Select a currency using the Local Currency drop-down menu. Note: This item must always be a part of your screening criteria, as your search results may include companies using different currencies. 3. Select screening criteria from the Screening Categories menu on the left. All of the screening categories have secondary, underlying criteria. For example, if you want to search for companies from a specific sector, click Background Information > Sector Name. 4. Click Include to have the item as part of your search criteria. Click Exclude to prevent the selected item from being part of the search. For example, Emerging Markets is included for the Energy, Public Utilities sector search below. 5. Click your desired search items from the list on the right. To select more than one item, press the Ctrl key as you click on each item. 6. Repeat steps 3-5 as desired. 7. Click the Run icon ( ) to execute your search. All information matching your search criteria will appear in the report at the bottom of the screen. Select a currency using the Local Currency drop-down menu. Note: This item must always be a part of your screening criteria, as your search results may include companies using different currencies. 3. Select screening criteria from the menu on the left. All of the screening categories have secondary, underlying criteria. For example, if you want to search for companies based on EPS FY1 MEAN, click Annual EPS Estimate > EPS Current Yr MEAN. 4. Select an operation for your value, such as Equal to, Greater than, or Less than. These operations will relate the numerical value you enter with the search criteria you selected. 5. Enter your desired value for the criteria in the Value box. 6. Repeat steps 3, 4 and 5 as desired. 7. Click the Run icon ( ) to execute your search. All companies matching your search criteria will appear in the report that is selected at the bottom of the screen. There is a result limit of 500 companies. Numerical Quantitative Data Understanding your Results Your search results are displayed on the bottom of the screen in the Results table. You may view the following results reports: Criteria, Ests, Growth, Value, Momentum, Research, and In-House. The Research reports tab shows the research reports and daily notes on the companies matching your search criteria. To view your results, click the name of the report. To view more information about a company listed in your Ests, Growth, Value, and Momentum results, click the ticker of the desired company. The Company Snapshot screen will be displayed. Working with Filters The combination of your search criteria is known as a filter. Through this screening process, you will pick companies that meet your specific needs. To Save a Filter 1. Create a descriptive and/or a numerical data search (see p ). 2. Run your search, click the Save icon ( ). The Quant Screen Save window will pop up. 3. Enter a unique name for this filter in the Save Filter As box. 4. Choose to save your filter as either Public or Private. If you save the filter as a public filter, all the members of your company will be able to use this filter. If you save the filter as private, you will be the only member of your company who will be able to use the filter. 5. Click Save. If you do not want to save the filter, click Cancel. Click Edit next to the item you d like to change. 3. Make your desired changes. 4. To delete criteria from a search, click Delete next to the search criteria you d like to remove. 5. Click the Run icon ( ) to execute the search with your new search criteria. 6. To save the edited filter, click the Save As icon ( ). 7. Enter a unique name for this filter in the Save Filter As box, OR To save it as the same filter, select the filter name from the Current Filters drop-down menu. 8. Choose to save your filter as either Public or Private. If you save the filter as public, all the members of your company will be able to use this filter. If you save the filter as a private filter, you will be the only member of your company who will be able to use the filter. 9. Click Save. To Delete a Filter: 1. From the Q-Screen page, select the filter you d like to delete from the Select Saved Filters drop-down menu. Note: You may only delete a filter that you created. 2. Click the Delete icon ( ). 3. Click OK in the confirmation window to delete the filter. Click Cancel if you do not want to delete the filter. Batch Printing & Saving Research You may print and save the available research. Viewing Broker / Analyst Information The information in the Published Research Reports chart changes based on the selected buttons below that chart. Selecting Companies per Analyst (Cos. per Analyst) displays the average numbers of companies covered per analyst at the selected broker, compared to the average numbers of companies covered per analyst at all the listed brokers combined. Selecting Recommendations Distribution (Rec. Distribution) displays a chart of this broker s current recommendations and the number of analysts who made that recommendation. Each industry within the sector is identified in the legend to the left. This is based on the amount of companies covered in the given sector. The Analyst Profile table displays all of the contributing analysts at the selected broker showing the numbers of companies followed, industries followed and numbers of revisions and research submitted. To view information about a specific analyst, click the name of the desired analyst listed in the table. Some analysts may follow more than one industry. To view all of the industries followed by a specific analyst, click more under the Industries followed column. The Industries Followed window will appear listing all the industries followed by that analyst. The High bar shows how many earnings estimates were higher than the actual reported earnings. The Low bar shows the amount of estimates lower than the actual, while the Target bar shows the amount of estimates that matched the actual. The Recent Research table lists all the research reports submitted by that analyst. To open a report, click on the report title. Note: In order to receive research, you must have a First Call Web user name and password. You can enter your user name and password by clicking here on the Recent Research table. The broker entitlements in Thomson ONE Analytics will be the same as this ID for Research and Notes. To view this information for a different analyst, select the desired analyst from the Select an Analyst drop-down menu. Comparing Two Analysts Forecasts Comparing how different analysts rate a company may help you to determine your own value for that company. Quick Search The Thomson ONE Analytics Quick Search section allows you to create a free-text type of search for research documents. You may search on any or all of the available criteria. To Create a Quick Search: 1. Click the Screening tab, and then the Research tab. 2. Click the Quick Search tab. 3. Select your desired products. 4. To select a date range, specify if you d like a Relative or Absolute date. Relative dates allow you to pick a time period, such as Last 1 Month. Absolute Dates allow you to enter a specific date range for the reports. If you are unsure of which dates you want to enter, click Show Calendar and select dates from the calendar. 5. To search on a ticker, select the appropriate identifier from the drop-down menu and type the ticker symbol in the box. 6. To search on a portfolio, select your desired portfolio from the drop-down menu. 7. Before searching for a document, you must first build the filter for that search. You may also save and edit the criteria for your search filter. To Build and Run Your Search Filter: 1. Click the Screening tab, and then the Research tab. 2. Click the Criteria Search tab. 3. Select your desired research product from the Product Selection box. 4. Click Next. The criteria you selected will be displayed in addition to any other required search criteria. Screening Product Selection 5. 94 Chapter 5 The Publishing Tab Overview & Objectives This chapter details the publishing functionality that allows you to post forecasts and research to the Thomson ONE Analytics system through In- House Publishing. In addition to publishing text-based research documents, you may also publish Excel spreadsheets, image files, PowerPoint presentations or any other PC-based file. See the Glossary for a complete list of acceptable files. You can publish files directly to the Thomson Financial system or you can store them on local servers and publish only the indexing information for the documents. Each firm choosing the latter option will be required to supply a path for the documents and then maintain the files on their network. Publish Quantitative On the Quantitative screen you may view a company s summary information and edit in-house estimates and other information about the company s in-house estimates. You may enter organizational level in-house estimates for any company. Any user within your company can change these estimates. However, these estimates are kept anonymous at the organizational level outside of the firm. All users can see the estimate values of other organizations, but cannot see the organization s name. You may track your estimate versus the sell-side estimates and track your estimate against the other in-house estimates in our database. The comparison of these estimates can be shown using the accompanying scatter plot under Your Estimate vs. Peers and the Consensus Comparison tables. To Enter an In-House Estimate: 1. Click the Publish tab, and then the Quantitative tab. 2. If it s not already loaded, enter your desired ticker or company name in the Select another Company box and click Go. 3. Select your desired measure for the estimate from the Available Measures row. 4. Select your desired fiscal period from the Available Periods row. 5. The Sell-Side Detail view displays your firm s estimates relative to the sell-side estimates in our database. The In-House Detail shows your estimate relative to the other in-house estimates submitted to Thomson ONE Analytics. Note: You may only view the In-House Detail scatter plot of the in-house estimates if you have an estimate entered. Each estimate is plotted according to the actual value and number of days that have elapsed since the estimate was submitted. A green arrow indicates that the estimate had been raised from its previous value. Estimates that had been lowered are shown in red and new estimates are displayed in gray. To Compare Your Estimates to Your Peers: 1. Click the Publish tab, and then the Quantitative tab. 2. The Consensus Comparison table compares the differences in the sell-side mean EPS and the In-House mean EPS across multiple fiscal periods. The Interim Fiscal Period table compares the differences in the sell-side mean EPS and the In-House mean EPS across multiple quarters. A green value in the %Diff column indicates an increase while a red value indicates a decrease for both charts. Research Queue The publish queue is a status and overview page of your research. From here you can view the following information about each document: First Call ID (a unique identification number, labeling the research index) Original File Status (if the research and index have been sent, published, etc.) Headline Symbol Date Analyst From the Publish Queue, you may send, remove, delete, or archive research. Sending Research When you create an index for a piece of research and save it for reuse, you may send it to Thomson Financial at a later date. To Send Research: 1. Removed research is only removed from the Queue, not from Thomson ONE Analytics display in the in-house research section. Because you no longer maintain Removed research, you cannot revise or delete it. If needed, you may contact Broker Support to delete the research from Thomson ONE Analytics after you remove it. To Remove Research: 1. Click the Publish tab, then the Research tab, and then click the Queue tab. 2. Click the check box(es) to the right of the index(es) you d like to remove. 3. Select Remove Research from the Action drop-down menu. 4. Click Go. Removing Research Thomson Financial recommends that you keep your Sent research for approximately 30 days. The research will not be displayed or searchable. To Delete from Internal Research from the First Call Database: 1. Click the Publish tab, then the Research tab, and then click the Queue tab. 2. Click the check box(es) next to the research you d like to delete. 3. Select Delete from Published Status from the Action drop-down menu. 4. Click Go. Deleting Internal Research from the First Call Database Archiving Research Archived items lists items that are saved for later use. The headlines of archived research indexes are listed here. Your research indexes are automatically archived after a period of 30 days. Your retention period begins when your research reaches a Published status. When a research index reaches its retention limit, the headline and indexing information are moved to a headline archive. The research is still displayed and searchable via Thomson ONE Analytics. To Archive your Documents Before they Reach their Retention Limit: 1. Click the Publish tab, then the Research tab, and then click the Queue tab. 2. The research files associated are broadcast on the Thomson ONE Analytics system. You may also search for these files using the index information you entered. To Index a Document: 1. Click the Publish tab, then the Research tab and then the Index tab. 2. Enter the page count of the research in the Page Count box. 3. Enter the title that you d like broadcast in the Document Headline field. 4. Select the desired symbol set for the ticker symbols from the Symbol Set drop-down menu. 5. Enter the primary symbol for your desired company you want in the Primary Symbol field. If you do not know the company symbol, click Symbol Lookup to retrieve the symbol. (See Looking up Company Symbols below.) 6. To load a saved index, select your desired index from the Select a saved index drop-down menu. 7. Enter any additional company symbols in the Additional Symbol field. 8. Click Auto-Populate to populate the Country and Industry index options for your primary ticker. 9. Select an index type from the Select Index Type drop-down menu. 10. Click an item in the left-hand box and click Add to include it in your index. To remove an item listed in your index, select the item you d like to remove from the box to the right and click Remove. 11. To search by the beginning of a company name, click Search by Company Name begin with. To search by part of a company name, click Search by Company Name contains. 3. Enter your desired search term in the text box to the right of the Choose which item you would like to search for listing. 4. Click Search to retrieve the desired company ticker. 107 Chapter 6 Connect Overview & Objectives Thomson Connect's First Call Premium Channel within Thomson ONE Analytics provides a secure communication framework to enable real-time exchange of the information and ideas by a closed community of financial professionals. Define with whom you want to communicate, prioritize what you want to receive and define how you want to receive it. Inbox The Inbox provides access to packages sent to you from other users, or through one of the Premium Channels. The Inbox displays the following fields: Date - the date the package was sent to you. Type - the type of package sent. Subject - the package headline or topic. Firm - the sending firm. Author - the package sender. This can be a contact, or a System Broadcast, indicating the content was pushed from a contributor's system over one of the Premium Channels. Firm-wide Indicator - indicates that the package was sent to your entire firm. Attachment Indicator - indicates that the package contains attachments. If you access the Inbox from the COMPANY or PORTFOLIO sections, it will be filtered by the respective entities. Thomson Financial 101

To ensure you see new content as it arrives, click the Refresh ( ) icon. The search function allows you to retrieve all packages related to the criteria, even if they would not normally appear due to the Inbox size limit. To search for packages: 1. Click the Connect tab, and then the Inbox tab. 2. Select your desired criteria from the Search drop-down menu. The Choose Values window will appear. 3. TIPS: You may sort your messages by clicking on any of the column headers, or view specific packages by clicking on the hyperlink in the Subject column. (See Package Viewer on p. 104 for more details.) You may delete messages from your Inbox by clicking on the checkbox that corresponds with the package you'd like to delete, and clicking the Delete ( ) icon. Premium Channels Premium channels allow you to receive content from contributing firms on specific topics. Topics include: First Call Premium Channel - receive premium broker content from participating firms Independent Research Premium Channel (future) - receive independent research from participating firms Each premium channel can be turned ON/OFF by clicking on the respective icon. If the premium channel is ON, you will see content distributed over that channel and can use your interest lists to further narrow your Inbox view. If the premium channel is OFF, you will not see content from that specific collection. Interest Lists / Portfolios Interest lists allow you to filter content based on specific interests. Interest lists can be created in one of two ways: 1. Interest List section under the CONNECT tab 2. Private Lists section under the UTILITY tab The drop-down menu contains a superset of both. Selecting an interest list from the drop-down menu allows you to change your Inbox view so that it only displays content relevant to that interest list. The sender can customize the package contents, but a typical package will contain: 1. Package Index - provides you with a navigational index to the package overview, details, and any sender attachments. In some cases, firms will set up business rules to blend additional content onto their packages (in line with workflow processes). These links will also be listed in the package index. 2. Package Contents - information from the sender, including business card information, and relevant tagging. 3. Functional Options - options available to you on the package. These include: Reply - reply to the sender Note: If you reply to a package sent via System Broadcast, you are unlikely to get a response, as a system and not a person send these packages. Forward - forward the package to another recipient (The Sender controls this function) Contact Details - view the sender's contact details (Allows you to view the sender's Business Card, Interests, and a history of packages that you've sent or received from this contact) Grant Premier Status - change this sender's status to Premier (Premier relationships mean that you trust the content these users are sending and want to prioritize it above other content) Close - close the package Thomson Connect Package Viewer Thomson Financial 104

The Sent Items display includes the following fields: Created - the date you created the package Recipients - the people you've sent the package to Type - the type of package sent Subject - the package headline or topic Status - the package status ( Public indicates that the package reached the recipients, and is available to them for viewing) Firm-wide Indicator - indicates that the package was sent to your entire firm Attachment Indicator - indicates that the package contained attachments To View Sent Items: 1. Click the Connect tab, and then the Sent Items tab. 2. To view specific packages, click on the hyperlink in the Subject column. To Retract Sent Items: 1. Click the checkbox that corresponds with the item you'd like to retract. 2. Click the Retract ( ) icon. The package will be removed from the recipient's Inbox and your Sent Items folder. Contacts The Contacts section allows you to build and manage your relationships. Relationships are established through an "invitation" process. Meaning, either you've sent them an invitation and they've accepted, or they've sent you an invitation that you've accepted. The default view in the Contacts section lists of all the people you have a relationship with. If you accept an invitation, the person is added to your contacts list. Declining an invitation prevents the contact from being added to your contact list. To accept/decline an invitation: 1. Click the Connect tab, and then the Contacts tab. 2. Click the Received Invitations tab. 3. Click the checkbox that corresponds with your desired invitation. 4. Click either the Accept ( ) or Decline ( ) icon. Sent Invitations This section displays a list of users you've sent invitations to (that are pending response). To view your sent invitations: 1. Click the Connect tab, and then the Contacts tab. 2. Click the Sent Invitations tab. If you've changed your mind, you may revoke your invitation. The process of revoking an invitation causes the invitation to be removed from the recipient's Received Invitations list and from your Sent Invitations list. To revoke an invitation: 1. 117 Chapter 7 Alerting Overview & Objectives Alerting within Thomson ONE Analytics provides real-time customized access to research through alerts. Your alerts are based on criteria that you select, namely, which research products to search on and what time the will arrive. Furthermore, you may open your desired documents directly from your . Important Information for First Call Web users: All of your First Call Web portfolios and alerts need to be migrated to Thomson ONE Analytics. If any issues arise regarding portfolio ticker resolution, those tickers will be dropped from the portfolio. If you have questions concerning your portfolio tickers, please contact your Client Services Representative. Your First Call Web alerts and portfolios will not be maintained and supported in Thomson ONE Analytics. Changes made in either First Call Web or Thomson ONE Analytics after migration will not be reflected in the other application. Thomson Financial no longer supports custom ticker alerts. You will not receive alerts on custom tickers if you update existing or create new alerts using them. Your alerts will be displayed. The Synchronize button ensures that the changes made to portfolios are updated in your alerts. For alerts based on portfolios, click Synchronize to update your alerts. You must click the Synchronize button each time you edit a portfolio connected to an alert. Viewing your alerts Creating Alerts When creating alerts, you decide when you d like to be notified, which ticker symbols or portfolios to search on, and which Thomson products to include in the result set. To Create a New Alert: 1. Click the Utility tab, and then the Alerts tab. 2. Enter the alert name in the Alert Name field. 3. Click Go. The create/edit alert screen will appear. 4. To create a company/ticker alert, enter the desired ticker(s) in the Alert on Ticker(s)/Company field. If you do not know the name of the ticker, click Lookup Ticker to search for the desired ticker. To search for company information: 1. Click Ticker Lookup on the main alerts screen. 2. Select the information you are looking for from the Choose which item you would like to search for list. To search by stock symbol, click Search by Stock Symbol. To search by the beginning of a company name, click Search by Company Name (begins with). To search by part of a company name, click Search by Company Name (contains). To search by Cusip number, click Search by Cusip. 3. Enter your desired search term in the text box to the right of your selection. 4. Click Search to retrieve the desired company ticker. The company information will be displayed at the bottom of the screen. 5. Click the Select check box to the right of each correct match for any desired tickers. 6. To View Country Aggregate Data: 1. Click the Markets tab, and then the Country Aggregates tab. 2. Select your desired country. On the Overview page, general information on the country, including market cap, price, and numbers of companies are listed at the top of this page. 3. To view the country s historical data, click the History tab. Country Markets History The aggregate history table shows a month-by-month historical forecast snapshot of a market or index using measures that appear in the country aggregates report. The macro and monetary indicator charts are from the Datastream database. Data is sourced directly from exchanges, leading international and local suppliers, and published reports. These charts show the direction of key economic trends in the country. 4. To view the country s sector, industries, or indices, click either the Sectors, Industries, or Indices tab. 5. 128 Thomson ONE Analytics Manual User 1 Picking Stocks Based on a Quantitative Screening After you have educated yourself on your desired market country, sector, industry and/or index, you may apply that information to screen companies, and therefore pick stocks. To Create a New Screen 1. Click the Screening tab, and then the Q-Screen tab. 2. Select the currency for your desired country in the Select Criteria Currency drop-down menu. 3. Select screening criteria from the Screening Categories menu on the left. All of the screening categories have secondary, underlying criteria. For example, if you want to search for companies from a specific sector, click Background Information > Sector Name. Q-Screening Categories 4. Click Include to have the item as part of your search criteria. Click Exclude to prevent the selected item from being part of the search. 5. Click your desired search items from the list to the right of the category. To select more than one item, press the Ctrl key as you click on each item. 6. You may view the following results reports: Criteria, Ests, Growth, Value, Momentum, Research (available across different fiscal periods), and In-House. Q-Screen results are limited to 500. To Save as a Portfolio 1. If necessary, change your search criteria to reduce the number of results. 2. Click the Save as Portfolio icon ( ) to save the company result list as a portfolio. 3. Enter a portfolio name in the Save Portfolio As box. 4. Enter the permissioning for this portfolio. To enable all users in your organization to view the portfolio, select Public. You may evaluate individual stocks, groups of stocks, and portfolios based on company data such as forecast activity, recommendations, analyst estimates, and so forth. As explained in this chapter, the Portfolio and Company sections can assist you in obtaining your desired data. Some of the following functionality is available on an entitlement basis. Selecting Stock(s) from a Portfolio To track stocks within one of your portfolios, you may first want to view the overall activity of the portfolio. The Earnings Surprise table lists the analyst s earnings surprise information for the prior quarter. The High bar shows how many earnings estimates were higher than the actual reported earnings. The Low bar shows the amount of estimates lower than the actual, while the Target bar shows the amount of estimates that matched the actual. The Recent Research table lists current research reports submitted by that analyst. To open a report, click on the report title. 2. To compare two analysts estimates, click Compare. 3. To remove companies that the analysts do not have in common, select the Show only matching companies check box. 4. To change the date range, click on the desired range above the chart. If you would like to view reported surprise information along with the price information, click Show Surprise. This will add a surprise chart showing the company s actual reported figures versus the consensus figures to the chart. The surprise gauges an analyst s accuracy and is usually a driver of movement. A positive surprise means that the company s reported earnings were higher than the forecast. A negative surprise means that the company s reported earnings were lower than the forecast, and an on target surprise means that the forecast equaled the earnings. Historical Consensus The Historical Consensus Table shows a month-by-month listing of the previous two years data. To change the measure or period type, click on the desired links above the table. To View Company Fundamentals 1. Click the Fundamentals minor tab under the Company major tab.
