2 Plan for this Tax Day and into the Future April 17 (tax day) is right around the corner. It s become popular this time of year to encourage the opening of an IRA or similar retirement annuity, or the depositing of additional funds into an existing account, as a tax-savings vehicle. Funds disbursed are designated exclusively for the purpose of providing college scholarships to students applying for a fulltime undergraduate program. The applicant must be a US citizen applying for or in a full-time undergraduate program leading to a bachelor's degree at a Catholic college or Catholic university in the United States. The applicant must be a Catholic in good standing and a parishioner, son or daughter of a parishioner, of a Catholic church located in Lake County, Illinois. These scholarships will be awarded in amounts of at least $2,000. Completed applications must be received by April 1, It is the applicant s responsibility to make sure the recommendation form is turned in by the appropriate deadline. Although it is not required, the student can submit a short (less than 1 page) essay on why this scholarship would be valuable to receive extra points.
