The trade, transportation, and utilities sector also showed the largest change from last November by adding 9,500 jobs Over the month, five of the 11 industry sectors had increases in employment, while six showed declines. After the trade, transportation, and utilities, the largest over-the-month gain was seen in manufacturing, which gained 2,100 jobs. The leisure and hospitality sector rose by 1,000 when compared to last month. The information sector rose by 300, while financial activities showed a slight gain of 100 jobs. The largest decline over the month was seen in the construction sector, which lost 3,700 jobs from October. Professional and business services fell by 2,100 jobs, while education and health services lost 1,100. The mining and logging sector showed 800 fewer jobs than in October. Government declined by 500, while other services lost 300. Over the year, seven sectors posted gains and four showed declines. After the trade, transportation, and utilities sector, the largest over-the-year gain was seen in the leisure and hospitality sector, which added 8,100 jobs. The construction sector was 5,100 jobs higher than at this time last year. Manufacturing increased by 3,900, while the mining and logging sector added 1,300 jobs. Other services gained 800 jobs, and information increased by 400. The largest decline over the year occurred in the government sector, which fell by 5,500 jobs. The education and health services sector was down 2,500 from a year ago. Both the financial activities sector and the professional and business services sector declined by 300 jobs from November The November 2013 preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Louisiana was 6.3 percent, a decrease from the October 2013 revised rate of 6.5 percent. The national unemployment rate for November was 7.0 percent, a decrease from the October rate of 7.3 percent. Total unemployment in the state for November was 131,130. The state civilian labor force increased to 2,087,993, with an increase in total employment to 1,956,863. 3 Not Seasonally Adjusted State and Area Employment Not seasonally adjusted nonfarm employment for Louisiana was estimated at 1,977,100 for November Over the month, total nonfarm employment gained 5,500 jobs from October, while over the year total nonfarm employment gained 20,200 jobs. Goods-producing employment lost 4,100 jobs over the month but added 10,300 jobs over the year. Service-providing employment increased by 9,600 jobs from last month, while adding 9,900 jobs over the year. Total nonfarm employment for November 2013 in the Alexandria MSA was estimated at 63,700. This reflects a gain both over the month and over the year of 500 jobs. The goods-producing sector showed no change over the month but gained 300 jobs over the year. Service-providing employment gained 500 jobs from October and 200 jobs over the year. Total nonfarm employment for the Baton Rouge MSA was estimated at 383,100 for November The MSA showed a loss of 500 jobs over the month and 100 jobs over the year. Goods-producing employment lost 2,400 jobs both over the month and over the year. The service-providing sector rose by 1,900 jobs from October and added 2,300 jobs over the year. The Houma MSA nonfarm employment was estimated at 99,900 for November This shows a gain of 700 jobs over the month and 3,100 jobs from November Goods-producing employment increased by 100 jobs over the month and added 1,900 jobs over the year. Service-providing employment gained 600 jobs from last month and added 1,200 jobs over the year. Total nonfarm employment for the Lafayette MSA was estimated at 161,900 for November This represents an increase of 800 jobs from last month and an increase of 3,800 jobs from last year. Over the month, goods-producing employment fell by 200, while adding 1,500 jobs over the year. The service-providing sector showed an increase of 1,000 jobs from October, while adding 2,300 jobs from last year. Total nonfarm employment for the Lake Charles MSA was 96,300 for November This represents no change from October, while adding 3,500 jobs from last year. The goods-producing sector lost 800 jobs over the month, while adding 2,200 jobs over the year. The service-providing sector gained 800 jobs over the month and 1,300 jobs from last November. Total nonfarm employment for the Monroe MSA was estimated at 77,400 for November This shows an increase of 500 jobs over the month, but a loss of 400 jobs over the year. Goods-producing employment lost 200 jobs over the month and 300 jobs over the year. The service-providing sector added 700 jobs over the month but lost 100 jobs over the year. Total nonfarm employment for the New Orleans MSA was 540,200 for November This represents an increase of 2,900 jobs over the month and 2,000 jobs over the year. Goods-producing employment showed a gain of 800 jobs from October and 1,500 jobs from last year. The service-providing sector added 2,100 jobs from last month and gained 500 jobs from last November. Total nonfarm employment for the Shreveport MSA was 176,900 for November This shows a gain of 1,500 jobs over the month and 700 jobs over the year. Goods-producing employment added 100 jobs over the month and 300 jobs from November Service-providing employment gained 1,400 jobs over the month while adding 400 jobs over the year. 3
