The figure represents a decrease of 3,100 jobs over the month but an increase of 8,900 jobs over the year. Private sector employment was es mated at 1,655,600, a decrease of 2,500 jobs over the month but a gain of 13,300 jobs over the year. Over the month the largest gain was seen in the professional and business services sector, which added 2,200 jobs. The es mate of 215,400 jobs is the second highest in series history. Construc on increased by 900 jobs from October and has shown monthly gains in five of the last seven months. Educa on and health services added 800 jobs as the health care and social assistance subsector gained 900 jobs. Mining and logging added 600 jobs over then month, its fourth over-themonth gain in the last six months. The largest decline from last month was seen in trade, transporta on, and u li es which fell by 2,800 jobs. The series has lost jobs over the month in seven of the last eight months. Leisure and hospitality declined by 1,200 jobs with the accommoda on and food services subsector losing 1,500 jobs. Other services also lost 1,200 jobs from October, its biggest monthly loss since March of this year. Manufacturing lost 800 jobs over the month, its third consecu ve monthly loss. Financial ac vi es also lost 800 jobs from last month. Government lost 600 jobs as both the state and federal government sectors each lost 300 jobs. Informa on showed a small loss of 200 jobs. Over the year the largest gain was seen in the construc on sector which added 8,300 jobs. Construc on has seen over-the-year gains for 14 consecu ve months. The educa on and health services sector rose by 5,500 jobs over the year, with the health care and social assistance subsector gaining 5,300 jobs. Educa on and health services has added jobs over the year every month beginning with October Professional and business services increased by 4,600 jobs and has seen over-the-year gains in eight of the last ten months. Leisure and hospitality showed 2,800 more jobs than last year, as both of its subsectors; arts, entertainment, and recrea on and accommoda on and food services each gained 1,400 jobs. Manufacturing increased by 1,900 jobs from last year as the non-durable goods subsector added 1,300 jobs. Other services added 800 jobs for its 14 th straight over-the-year increase. Financial ac vi es added 200 jobs from last and the series hasn t lost jobs over the year since March. Mining and logging also gained 200 jobs, ending a streak of 34 straight months with an over-theyear decline. The largest decline over the year was seen in trade, transporta on, and u li es lost which lost 9,400 jobs for its 25 th straight over-the-year decrease. The retail trade subsector lost 7,800 jobs while the transporta on, warehousing, and u li es subsector lost 3,800 jobs over the year. The government sector lost 4,400 jobs as local government lost 2,600 jobs and state government lost 2,500 jobs. Informa on showed 1,600 fewer jobs than last year, its 22 nd consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. The preliminary seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Louisiana decreased to 4.7 percent from the October rate of 4.8 percent. The na onal unemployment rate for of remained at 4.1 percent, matching its October rate. Total unemployment in the state for was 98,184. The state civilian labor force increased to 2,098,597, with an increase in total employment to 2,000,413. 3 3 State and Area Employment STATEWIDE Louisiana s total nonfarm not seasonally adjusted employment was es mated at 1,997,200 for. The es mate represents a gain of 4,900 jobs over the month and an increase of 14,800 jobs from The series has gained jobs over the year for seven consecu ve months. The total private employment figure was es mated at 1,671,400 in. Private sector employment showed an over-the-month increase of 3,200 jobs and a gain of 19,200 jobs from This series has added jobs over the year for seven straight months. Over the month the largest increase was seen in the trade, transporta on, and u li es sector which added 4,500 jobs. The retail trade subsector was responsible for 3,000 of the jobs gained. Professional and business services increased by 2,100 jobs from October and has added jobs over the month in three of the last four months. Government added 1,700 jobs as the state government subsector increased by 1,400 jobs. Educa on and health services rose by 600 jobs for its fourth straight monthly gain. Mining and logging added 300 jobs and has added jobs over the month in five of the last seven months. Informa on showed a small increase of 100 jobs from October while leisure and hospitality showed no change. The largest decline over the month occurred in the other services sector which fell by 1,400 jobs. The repair and maintenance subsector lost 1,100 jobs from October. Manufacturing showed 1,300 fewer jobs than last month as the durable goods manufacturing subsector lost 1,600 jobs. Manufacturing has lost jobs over the month in in nine of the last 10 years. Construc on declined by 1,100 jobs with the heavy and civil engineering construc on subsector losing 1,000 jobs. Financial assistance showed 600 fewer jobs than in October. The largest over-the-year gain was seen in the construc on sector which added 9,800 jobs. This is its 11 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year gain, led by a 7,500 job increase in construc on of buildings. Heavy and civil engineering construc on also added 5,600 jobs. Educa on and health services added 6,400 jobs over the year and has added jobs over the year every month beginning with the October 2006 figure. Health care and social assistance was responsible for 6,000 of the 6,400 jobs gained, while educa on services rose by 400. Professional and business services added 5,500 jobs, its sixth increase in the last seven months. Leisure and hospitality added 3,700 jobs with accommoda on and food services subsector increasing by 1,900 jobs. Leisure and hospitality has seen over-the-year gains for six consecu ve months. Manufacturing gained 1,400 jobs from 2016 as non-durable goods manufacturing gained 900 jobs. Other services increased by 700 jobs for its 10 th straight over-the-year gain. Financial ac vi es added 500 jobs from last year and has not lost jobs over the year since March. Mining and logging added 400 jobs from last year, ending a streak of 34 months with an over-the-year loss. The largest decline over the year was seen in the trade, transporta on, and u li es sector, which declined by 7,600 jobs, its 26 th straight over-the-year loss. The transporta on, warehousing and u li es subsector lost 3,300 jobs while retail trade lost 6,500 jobs. Government lost 4,400 jobs with state government falling by 2,600. The government figure is the lowest for in series history (beginning in 1990) and the 18 th straight over-the-year loss. Informa on lost 1,600 jobs over the year, its 22 nd straight over-the-year loss. ALEXANDRIA Total nonfarm employment for the Alexandria MSA was es mated at 62,900 for. This es mate shows a gain of 100 jobs over the month but a loss of 600 jobs over the year. The MSA has dropped jobs over the year for 16 consecu ve months. Trade, transporta on, and u li es lost 700 jobs over the year. BATON ROUGE Total nonfarm employment for the Baton Rouge MSA was es mated at 415,400 for. The es mate shows a gain of 1,500 jobs over the month and an increase of 7,700 jobs over the year. The over-the-year gain is the 11 th in a row. Over the month, both professional and business services and trade, transporta on, and u li es gained 1,000 jobs while construc on lost 1,000 jobs. Over the year, educa on and health services added 3,200 jobs and construc on added 2,700 jobs. Trade, transporta on, and u li es dropped by 1,400 jobs, its 14 th consecu ve loss over the year.

4 4 HAMMOND The Hammond MSA total nonfarm employment was es mated at 46,000 for. This figure shows a gain of 100 jobs over the month and a gain of 600 jobs over the year. Goods producing employment showed a loss of 100 jobs over the month 100 jobs over the year. Service providing employment added 200 jobs over the month and added 700 jobs over the year. HOUMA Total nonfarm employment in the Houma MSA was es mated at 86,100 for. This shows a gain of 200 jobs over the month but a decline of 1,100 jobs over the year. Trade, transporta on, and u li es lost 2,000 jobs over the year. Mining and logging lost 100 jobs over the year, its 34 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. LAFAYETTE Total nonfarm employment for the Lafaye e MSA was es mated at 200,400 for. This shows a gain of 800 jobs over the month and a gain of 600 jobs over the year. The over-the-year gain ends a streak of 33 straight losses. Over the month, both the professional and business services sector and the government sector added 400 jobs. Over the year, manufacturing added 900 jobs while leisure and hospitality increased by 400. Mining and logging lost 400 jobs over the year for its 35 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. Professional and business services added 200 jobs, ending a streak of 32 straight losses. LAKE CHARLES Total nonfarm employment for the Lake Charles MSA was es mated at 117,300 for. This shows a gain of 400 jobs over the month and a gain of 5,000 jobs over the year. It is the 77 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year increase and a new series high. The construc on sector showed a loss of 500 jobs over the month but added 3,500 jobs over the year. This is construc on s 26 th consecu ve month with an over-the-year increase. Trade, transporta on, and u li es added 400 jobs over the year. MONROE Total nonfarm employment for the Monroe MSA was es mated at 80,500 for. This shows a gain of 100 jobs over the month and a gain of 700 jobs over the year. Professional and business services added 200 jobs over the year while government lost 500 jobs over the year, as state government lost 400 jobs. NEW ORLEANS Total nonfarm employment for the New Orleans MSA was es mated at 577,500 for. This shows a gain of 600 jobs over the month but a loss of 2,200 jobs over the year. Over the month, trade, transporta on, and u li es added 1,600 jobs. Over the year, professional and business services added 3,200 jobs, construc on increased by 900, and manufacturing added 800 jobs. Government lost 2,900 jobs over the year as local government showed 2,300 fewer jobs than last year. Trade, transporta on, and u li es declined by 2,400 jobs from last year while leisure and hospitality lost 1,200 jobs over the year. SHREVEPORT Total nonfarm employment for the Shreveport MSA was es mated at 178,600 for. This shows a gain of 400 jobs over the month but a loss of 2,300 jobs over the year. This is the 31 st consecu ve month with an over-the-year loss. Over the month, trade, transporta on, and u li es added 600 jobs. Over the year government declined by 1,300 jobs, professional and business services lost 600 jobs and mining and logging lost 500 jobs.
