3 PREFACE The Malawi Statistical Yearbook 2015 is intended to provide a summary of the most recent statistical data available from official sources. It includes key demographic, social and economic indicators, together with statistics on land, climate, population, education, tourism, economic activities, construction, utilities, transport, posts and telecommunication, banking and finance, prices, external trade, balance of payments, national accounts, poverty, crime, child labour, gender and SADC selected social and economic indicators. We extend our gratitude to all those who have contributed to the compilation of this thirtysecond edition. The cooperation of various organisations in both the public and private sectors in providing the required information is also gratefully acknowledged. Where data has been obtained from a source other than the National Statistical Office, a footnote has been put under each table to acknowledge the source. Users should note that where statistics are shown by geographic region or district, ordering normally follows a north south scheme. For users who are not familiar with the district boundaries of Malawi, a map is provided on page vi.
