BACKGROUND: o The Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) Board was created to review applications to the TPA fund and make use of lodging charges collected under Chapter sec. The purpose of the TPA is to increase overnight stays in Snohomish County. o The Board of Directors is comprised of 14 members; nine lodging members, one lodging representative from each of the five county council districts and four at-large members; and five non-lodging members. o Members of the Board may serve up to three consecutive, three year terms. o Two new members seek to serve a term on the 14 member TPA Board. o The TPA Board has reviewed and approved Bria Miller's and Greg Willie's applications for membership and recommend these two applicants to Council for terms ending December 31, o The Parks Department is continuing to solicit applicants for the remaining 2 vacancies. 3 SNOHOMISH COUNTY COUNCIL Snohomish County, Washington MOTION NO MOTION APPOINTING BRIA MILLER AND GREG WILLIE TO THE SNOHOMISH COUNTY TOURISM PROMOTION AREA (TPA) BOARD WHEREAS, RCW authorized Snohomish County to establish a Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) upon petition by the lodging industry; and WHEREAS, on December 15, 2010, Council adopted sec which established the TPA and the Tourism Promotion Area Advisory Board to advise and make recommendations to the County on allocation of TPA revenues for eligible projects; and WHEREAS, the Advisory Board is comprised of 14 members; nine lodging members, and five non-lodging members; and WHEREAS, the Snohomish County Tourism Promotion Area Board has evaluated the Board applications for eligibility and recommended Board appointments; and WHEREAS, Bria Miller and Greg Willie fufill the need for one representative from District 2 and one for At-Large; and WHEREAS, Bria Miller and Greg Willie have decades of experience in the hospitality industry; and WHEREAS, Bria Miller and Greg Willie are nominated by Executive Dave Somers to serve a three year term; NOW, THEREFORE, ON MOTION, the Snohomish County Council hereby appoints Ms. Bria Miller to District 2 and Mr. Greg Willie to At-Large, to the Snohomish County Tourism Promotion Area Board, term to expire December 31, PASSED this day of, SNOHOMISH COUNTY COUNCIL Snohomish County, Washington ATTEST: Council Chair Asst. 4 ~ Snohomish County MEMORANDUM Dave Somers County Executive DATE: TO: FROM: RE: June 22, 2017 Brian Sullivan, Council Chair, Snohomish County Council Dave Somers, Snohomish County Executive ~ lj/ Tourism Promotion Area Board Nominations 3000 Rockefeller Ave., M/S 407 Everett, WA (425) The Tourism Promotion Area (TPA) Board was created to serve in an advisory capacity to make use of lodging charges collected under Chapter SCC. The Advisory Board is comprised of 14 members; nine lodging members and five non-lodging members. The purpose of the TPA is to increase overnight stays in Snohomish County. Additional considerations include; the improvement and development of tourism attractions, allowing for tourism marketing in new markets, increased advertising and trade show attendance and other marketing promotions. Pursuant to SCC the members of the board may serve up to three consecutive, three year terms. The applicants respectively represent decades of hotel and tourism experience and have served on many other boards within the county. Bria Miller has worked in tourism and hospitality within Snohomish County for over ten years and is currently serving on the Snohomish County Tourism Bureau Board. As the general manager at Best Western Cascadia Inn in Everett, she is directly involved with supporting the tourism industry and wants to continue those efforts by serving on the TPA board and helping to increase tourism in Snohomish County. Bria is seeking an appointment to the TPA Board as a lodging, district 2 position. Greg Willie has worked in the hospitality industry for over 25 years, in nine different states across the country. He just moved from Pierce County where he has served on the TPAC Board and the BIA Board while working as the general manager of the Tacoma Courtyard by Marriott. He is currently the hotel manager for Delta Hotel by Marriott in Everett, and wants to continue to serve the community by volunteering on the TPA Board to help increase tourism for Snohomish County. Greg is seeking an appointment to the TPA Board as a lodging, At-Large position. Pursuant to sec , I hereby nominate Bria Miller and Greg Willie to the Tourism Promotion Area Board for a term ending December 31, 2019.
5 SNOHOMISH COUNTY TOURISM PROMOTION AREA BOARD The Board shall serve in advisory capacity regarding the review of applications to the TPA fund and make use of lodging charges collected under Chapter SCC, which shall include recommending annual business plans pursuant to SCC The Board of Directors is comprised of 14 members; nine lodging members and five non-lodging members. The purpose of the TPA is to increase overnight stays in Snohomish County. Additional considerations include: the improvement and development of tourism attractions; allowing for tourism marketing in new markets; increased advertising and trade show attendance and other marketing promotions.
