3 ACADEMIC POSITIONS AT UNIVERSITIES Positions below the level of assistant professor PhD Fellow and Research Assistant Positions at the level of assistant professor Assistant Professor, Researcher, PostDoc Positions at the level of associate professor Associate Professor, Senior Researcher Positions at the level of professor Professor, Professor with Special Responsibilites 3

4 SALARY The salary consists of: Basic pay Job structure supplements Qualifications-related supplements Functions-related supplements Lump sum payments (a particular effort) 4

5 SALARY Job structure supplements i.e. post doc supplement, associate professor s supplement Qualifications-related supplement used to reward the employee on the basis of his/her professional and personal qualifications, the quality of the performance of the task, or for the purpose of recruitment and retention Functions-related supplements are used to reward the employee who is in charge of special functions in his/her position. It is linked to particular task which the employee performs eg. head of a research group etc. Lump sum payments will typically be relevant if it is a matter of remuneration following a particular effort

6 PENSION Compulsory labour market pension paid by the university For PhD Fellows17.1% of 85% of basic salary For other positions 17.1% of basic salary and supplements 6

7 PENSION Normally tied up till the age of 60 As a non-danish citizen recruited outside of Denmark for fixed-term employment period it is possible to have your pension fund contribution paid out as salary. Instead you need to be part of a group life insurance scheme As a foreign citizen pay-out of the pension is possible. However there is 60 per cent tax deduction and administration fee to the pension fund 7

12 OTHER MATTERS 37 hours a week = full time position Employees such as researchers who themselves plan their work or whose working time cannot be checked are not entitled to overtime pay Normally half an hour paid lunch break is included in the working hours Sickness: Normally full pay during sickness

13 TAXATION Ordinary income taxation on salary and supplements (may vary, but up to 50% on average but with possibility of certain deductions) Special researchers tax scheme - for researchers recruited abroad (minimum level of assistant professor/post.doc.) for a period of maximum 60 month. The 60 months may be distributed over several periods 26% plus 8% Labour Market Contribution (Social Security Tax) 13

14 HOLIDAY Calender year (January 1st December 31st) Holiday year (May 1st April 30th) 5 weeks ordinary holiday = 2.08 days per month with pay if employed in the full calendar year prior to the holiday year 1 week s special holiday = 0.42 days per month if employed in the full calendar year prior to the holiday year 14

15 HOLIDAY After consultations with the employee the employer decides when the ordinary holiday is to be taken. Generally 4 weeks in summer and 2 weeks during winter Holiday Allowance = paid out with the May salary - holiday allowance is calculated as 1.5% of the taxable income in the previous calender year All holidays earned but not takenwill be paid to the employee when leaving Denmark

20 MATERNITY/PATERNITY LEAVE Mother: 6 weeks before expected childbirth and 26 weeks after childbirth with full pay Father: 2 weeks after the childbirth and an additional 6 weeks with full pay Childcare days: 2 childcare days per child per calendar year untill the child has reached the age of 7 20

21 MATERNITY/PATERNITY LEAVE Options: partial resumption of work during leave, deferment of leave, extention of leave If PhD Fellow or Assistant Professor (fixed term furthereducation posts), the employment period will be prolonged with the period of maternity/paternity leave taken during the employment period Right to paid leave on the first two sickness days of a child 21

22 EMPLOYEE PERFORMANCE INTERVIEW An inverview/dialog between employee and employer of the employee s working situation, his/her performance and review of tasks in the past year as well as current and future tasks Interview offer must be given annually A dialog regarding employee development initiatives and career wishes of the employee Individual development targets are set and will be followed up on during the next employee performance interview
