2 The 2030 Agenda is implemented in high profile ways in Finland The 2030 Agenda Implementation Plan (Government Report, which was widely discussed in the Parliament Committees) and national indicator baskets The Sustainable Development Committee with PM Juha Sipilä as a chair and 50 different organisations involved Finland was one of the first countries to have prepared a national interpretation of the programme and an action plan. Finland voluntarily reported on its progress at the UN High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development (HLPF) 2030 Agenda meeting in July Read more about the 2030 Agenda implementation in Finland here kestavakehitys.fi/en/agenda2030 Still much more ambitious and long-term view implementation is needed!

3 NGOs have been very actively connected to the 2030 Agenda Some bigger NGOs have places in the Sustainable Development Committee Kepa (NGO platform on global development representing around 300 Finnish civil society organisations) is coordinating the network of almost 50 NGOs (including other umberella NGOs like SOSTE Social and Health, Allianssi Youth Coordinator, Central Trade Union SAK and the Finnish Church) -> The network has made national and regional recommendations of each 17 Goals, common advocacy, awareness raising, seminars and shadow reporting The first follow-up report of Finnish NGOs was published in English at the HLPF in July 2017, as part of the international Social Watch network s Spotlight series of reports. Next report coming this summer for HLPF. Finland s delegation in HLPF also includes civil society representatives. Check out 10 minutes video about Agenda 2030 and NGOs role in Finland

7 EAPN-Fin actions connected to the 2030 Agenda Planning The 2030 Agenda is mentioned in EAPN-Fin Strategy and yearly Working Plans Networking Taking part in the NGO network and workshops with member organisations (NGO recommendations, feeding inputs to the shadow reports) Awareness raising Sharing information about the 2030 Agenda and poverty reduction Advocacy Adding the 2030 Agenda -messages fe. to the European Semester and national advocacy (Poverty Watch Report, press releases etc.)

8 Poverty Watch Report Finland 2017 The goal set in 2010 for the EU s Europe 2020 strategy aiming to reduce the number of people living in poverty or risk of social exclusion in Finland to 150,000 by 2020 seems to fail. Poverty should also be reduced by 50 per cent by 2030 as part of the national implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals and the Agenda 2030 Action Plan. The Government report on the Global Agenda for Sustainable Development Agenda2030 (2017) states that Inequality has increased in Finland. In reducing inequality and poverty, ensuring sufficient basic income and equal welfare and employment services is important. During Juha Sipilä s government s term in office, the status of the low-income groups has been weakened by the reduction of basic social security benefits and guarantee pension in 2017 and the freezing of the level of basic social security until 2019 by abandoning the index increases For Finland to achieve the poverty targets of EU s Europe strategy and the Agenda2030 Action Plan, the living conditions of approximately 900,000 people living under the risk of poverty or social exclusion should be significantly improved
