1 Vehicle and Equipment Crossing Kinder Morgan Canada s Pipeline CANADA
2 Heavy Vehicle and Equipment Crossing the Pipeline Right-of-Way Damage prevention is a shared responsibility. Our pipeline infrastructure and right-of-way must be treated with caution when crossed by heavy vehicles and mobile equipment outside of established roadways. We request that you notify us prior to any heavy vehicles or mobile equipment crossing or travelling along our right-of-way so that we can ensure the integrity of the pipeline. Please take a moment to read this brochure. About Kinder Morgan Canada Kinder Morgan Canada is a leader in energy transportation. We operate the Trans Mountain pipeline that runs from Edmonton, Alberta to Burnaby, British Columbia and into Whatcom and Skagit Counties in Washington state. Our Trans Mountain Jet Fuel pipeline transports jet fuel from Burnaby to the Vancouver International Airport. We are committed to safe, reliable and efficient operations of our pipeline.
3 Heavy Vehicle and Equipment Crossing Kinder Morgan Canada s pipelines are regulated either provincially or federally. Our regulators require anyone operating a heavy vehicle or mobile equipment across our pipeline to first obtain written permission from us. All requests for new roadway construction, heavy equipment access, and mobile equipment access outside of an established roadway shall pass a loading analysis to ensure the integrity of the pipeline is not compromised as a result of the activity. Examples of heavy vehicles and mobile equipment that need permission to cross our right-of-way include (but are not limited to): Excavators Compactors Dozers Graders Loaders Trucks and Trailers Wheeled or Tracked Construction Vehicles and Equipment Anyone looking to cross the pipeline with a heavy vehicle or mobile equipment must submit a Vehicle Crossing Information Requirements form to Kinder Morgan Canada s Permit Technician a minimum of three days before any proposed crossing. Contact the Pipeline Protection Department to request a copy of the form.
4 Call or Click Before You Dig Before operating any heavy vehicles or mobile equipment outside designated roadways, contact your local One Call centre. If your proposed crossing takes place across our pipeline right-of-way, the One Call centre will contact us directly. A Kinder Morgan Canada representative will contact you to discuss your proposed crossing and, if required, meet with you onsite to determine the exact location of the pipeline. This service is typically provided at no cost to you. Pipeline Markers and the Right-of-Way Our pipelines are found in a right-of-way or easement, which is a narrow stretch of land that provides safe access for pipeline monitoring and maintenance. Pipeline markers provide important safety information such as the type of product carried, the local One Call number, and Kinder Morgan Canada s emergency notification number. Although markers identify that a pipeline is in the area, they do not give the exact location or depth only a qualified Kinder Morgan Canada Technician can do so. Our Commitment to Pipeline Safety At Kinder Morgan Canada, safety is our top priority. We employ rigorous safety standards and use the latest methods and technologies available for monitoring and maintaining the condition of the pipeline. You can read more on our website at kindermorgan.com/pipelinesafety.
