1 Saskatchewan Labour Force Statistics April 2017 UNADJUSTED DATA According to the Statistics Canada Labour Force Survey during the week covering April 9 th to 15 th,, 2017, there were 560,100 persons employed in Saskatchewan. This is a decrease of 1,100 from March 2017 and the same as the number employed in April Agricultural employment was 36,700 persons in April 2017, up 900 from the March 2017 level but 3,100 less than the April 2016 agricultural employment level of 39,800. Nonagricultural employment was 523,400 persons in April This is a decrease of 2,000 from the March 2017 non-agriculture employment level of 525,400 but 3,100 more than April The Saskatchewan unemployment rate for April 2017 was 7.0 percent. This is an increase of 0.3 percentage points from the March 2017 rate of 6.7 percent but the same as the April 2016 rate. Saskatchewan's labour force increased by 900 to 602,500 persons in April 2017 from 601,600 persons in March This is the same as the April 2016 labour force of 602,500 persons. The Saskatchewan participation rate remained unchanged between April 2017 and March 2017 at 68.8 percent. The April 2016 participation rate for Saskatchewan was 69.5 percent. There were 42,400 persons unemployed in Saskatchewan during April This is an increase of 1,900 from March 2017 but is the same as the number unemployed in April SEASONALLY ADJUSTED DATA On a seasonally adjusted basis there were 568,200 persons employed in Saskatchewan in April 2017, down 2,200 from the March 2017 level of 570,400 but is up 1,300 from the April 2016 employment level of 566,900 persons. The Saskatchewan seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for April 2017 was 6.2 percent. This is an increase of 0.2 percentage points from the March 2017 rate of 6.0 percent but 0.1 percentage points lower than the April 2016 rate of 6.3 percent. CANADIAN DATA Canadian employment increased by 78,700 persons in April 2017 to 18,097,000 persons from 18,018,300 persons in March In April 2016, there were 17,824,200 persons employed in Canada. Canada's unemployment rate decreased 0.4 percentage points in April 2017 to 6.8 percent from the March 2017 level of 7.2 percent. In April 2016, Canada's unemployment rate was 7.5 percent. The seasonally adjusted unemployment rate for Canada was 6.5 percent in April This is 0.2 percentage points lower than March 2017 and 0.6 percentage points lower than the April 2016 level of 7.1 percent.
