From: Agnes Chan Sent: Saturday, September 03, :17 AM To: Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Subject: Don't let the United States control our natural resources Dear B.C. Utilities Commission, I am appalled to learn of the proposed sale of Terasen Gas to the Texas-based Kinder Morgan. I don't object to selling our natural resources (the products) to other contries but I strongly object to handing over the control of these resources to a foreign country, be it the United States or China. By doing that you are just handing over the goose that lays golden eggs to the United States. Please don't let Kinder Morgan take over Terasen Gas. 5 From: Bob Robertson Sent: Friday, September 02, :26 PM To: Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Subject: Sale of Terasen Gas As a concerned Canadian Citizen and a tax payer in British Columbia I wish to express may strongest objection to the proposed sale of Terasen Gas to a American company in Texas. It just boggles my mind to think another Canadian company is heading south of the border. One has to wonder just who is profiting from these kind of sales.west Kootenay Power has gone that way and the people in this area certainly did not benefit from that sale. How can BC maintain its position in the world and at the same time have vibrant economy when all the control is in the hands of Americans? Perhaps we should just role over and hoist the Stars and stripes over the Legislative Buildings in Victoria. R. 6 From: Sent: To: Subject: Debra Herst Saturday, September 03, :25 PM Commission Secretary BCUC:EX the sale of Terasen Gas To The BC Utilities Commission, You must stop the sale of our utilities to foreign companies!! Yes the US is a foreign country, and the sale of Terasen Gas to Kinder Morgan must be stopped! Canada is NOT for sale. By selling our utilities & natural resources to the US or any other foreign country we will be taken over, simply for greedy corporate ceos to gain more money. Can no one see the future, the bigger picture, or just past the ends of their noses?? As our utilities commission, I believe it is your duty to put an end to this or any future possible sale of British Columbia's utilities. Thank you, Debra Herst 1

From: Sent: To: Subject: Glenn Tarrant Saturday, September 03, :25 PM Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Sale of Terasen Shame on You to allow the sale of our resource, please stop this act of treason. I am a Canadian and proud to be one. Why is this government so quick to sell off so much of our resources. It is not theirs to sell. You are killing the spirit of all canadians when you allow these kind of deals. Our country needs all its resources to stay strong. They don t allow this in Alberta and Newfoundland and is fighting for what our government is so quick to give away. Shame on all of you if this deal goes through. Expect a society that is violent and unruly when you make decisions that make no sense for the future of this province and the people in it. Save Terasen and keep its ownership in British Columbia. How much money does Campbell need hasn t he stolen enough from us. Yours Truly Glenn Tarrant 1

From: G McGregor [hobnobx@hotmail.com] Sent: Saturday, September 03, :23 PM To: Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Subject: sale of terasen gas to kinder morgan Dear Sir / Madam; I wish to express my objection to the sale of Terasen Gas to Kinder Morgan of Usa. There is more to be gained for the people of B.C. by continuing operations as is, than for any short-term profits resulting from this sale. Thank you, Gordon McGregor, 1955 Suffolk Ave., Port Coquitlam, B.C.

From: Tom & Jan Sent: Saturday, September 03, :18 AM To: Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Cc: Subject: Terasen sale Please don't sell our utility company to American private enterprise. Our fundamental requirements for existence should not be in the hands of profit driven businesses, bad enough a Canadian one, certainly not an American one. Turn it back over to government where it belongs. Sincerely, Jan Lyle and Tom Douglas

From: Jeannette Sent: Saturday, September 03, :06 PM To: Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Subject: Terasen Gas I urge you to not to sell Terasen Gas to Kinder Morgan. We must keep our Utilities and not sell them off, one by one, to U.S. interests. They are not going to have B.C.'S caring attitude toward our citizens. Canada is a wonderful country and we should care enough about our country to keep our natural resources here where they belong. Thanks...Jeannette Ide

From: Sent: To: Subject: John Somerville Saturday, September 03, :47 PM Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Terasen Gas sale Dear Sir or Madam. I want to register my rejection of the purchase of Terasen Gas by a US company, */Kinder Morgan. /* Please register my opposition and have it documented for the future hearing. I enclose, below, a copy of my letter to my MLA. " Dear Mr Wyse; I wish to state my disapproval of the purchase of Terasen Gas by a US Company. As you know the company's name is *_Kinder Morgan._* In my opinion we should not be selling any of our natural resources or control of same in any way to a company based in another country. I would appreciate documentation of my Disapproval Letter and I look forward to discussing this issue with you in the near future. We have had sufficient experience with the American Government and US companies dealing in bad faith with Canadian Provincial and Federal Governments. Recent examples of this are the Softwood Lumber (dis)agreement, and non-payment of power sales to California. You may wish to look at Maude Barlowe's site, for information regarding other bad dealings with US corporations. Let's not sell our sovereignty, our natural wealth, and our pride down the river. NAFTA is a bad agreement; speak up. " Yours truly, John Somerville 108 Mile Ranch 1

From: Margaret Robertson Sent: Saturday, September 03, :29 PM To: Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Subject: Sale of Terrasen Gas I want to formally record my rejection of the proposal to sell Terasen Gas to Kinder Morgan, a US company. The most dangerous thing we can do is to set up a situation whereby another Country, whether the United States or any other, would be in a position to control our assets. Please register my opposition and have it documented for the future hearing. Yours sincerely, Margaret Robertson of Salmon Arm, BC.

From: Sent: To: Cc: Marian Rose Friday, September 02, :22 PM Commission Secretary BCUC:EX; Subject: Terasen sale Dear Editor I am most concerned about the recent sale of Terasen Gas (formerly BC Gas) to Texas-based Kinder Morgan. Given the fact that the US denies the reality of global warming, refuses to commit to conservation, and has demonstrated single-minded determination to get their hands on as much oil and gas as possible, it seems the utmost in foolishness to sign over to them control of our oil and gas reserves. As the disaster in New Orleans so graphically underlines, the future of energy reserves around the world is precarious, and the US is determined to own everything that is left. Now is the time for Canada to make a stand. -- Marian Marian Rose Community Dance Project 2056 East 3rd Avenue Vancouver, B.C. V5N 1H7 (604) marian@marianrose.com

From: Sent: To: Cc: Subject: Tony Simmonds Friday, September 02, :27 PM Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Campbell, Gordon LASS:EX; Neufeld.MLA, Richard LASS:EX; James.MLA, Carole A LASS:EX Sale of Terasen Gas Dear Rob Pellet: We are writing to express our deep concern over the sale of Terasen to Kinder Morgan. It is beyond comprehension that this sale should be allowed when it is vital that we in BC and Canada must be in control of our natural resources. How can it possibly be of benefit to consumers in British Columbia to sell off our only natural gas provider, and to a country whose goal is to gain control of the world's natural resources? Kinder Morgan has no interest in supplying gas to BC customers. The intent of the purchase is to gain control of the pipeline to supply Canadian gas to satisfy US demands for energy. Terasen's customers here in British Columbia will be literally left out in the cold. It is unconscionable that this sale should be allowed to go through. The sale of the people's assets to a foreign country is nothing short of a treasonable act! Maureen & Tony Simmonds 4634 Fernwood Avenue Powell River B.C. V8A 3L3 CANADA Phone: (604) Fax: As above. Please call first 1

From: Eva and Mike Sent: Friday, September 02, :25 PM To: Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Subject: Terasen Gas I am against the sale of assets paid for by the citizens of BC to an American owned company. Michael Cowtan Lumby BC

From: Sent: To: Subject: Michael Tanaka Friday, September 02, :26 PM Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Opposition to Terasen gas purchase Dear Sir or Madam. I want to register my rejection of the purchase of Terasen Gas by a US company, Kinder Morgan. Please register my opposition and have it documented for the future hearing. Thank you, Michael Tanaka of Vancouver 1

From: Sent: To: Subject: Paul & Arlene Tanaka Friday, September 02, :25 PM Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Terasen Gas US takeover I am writing to express my complete opposition to this sale. I remember when this asset was sold (by BC Hydro) to BC Gas. There were much assurances (although not believed by many) that this will remain a Canadian owned asset. We cannot afford to keep selling off our natural resources. It is no secret that the US is also interested in the tar sands in Alberta as well. Lets keep what's left of our natural resources Canadian! Paul & Arlene Tanaka 1

From: Sent: To: Subject: Bates-James Saturday, September 03, :04 AM Commission Secretary BCUC:EX Please halt the sale of Terasen Gas Both Tory Senator Pat Carney and NDP leader Carol James call on the Provincial government to halt the sale of Terasen gas to the US Kinder Morgan. I urge you to call on the Provincial government to do the same. You have the power to stop the approval. I urge you for two reasons. Firstly, when Canada signed NAFTA we signed away our energy security. We now sell 58% of our natural gas to the US and WE MUST SELL no less than this percentage even when our gas reserves start falling and we face a shortage. The more pipelines built to the US by Kinder Morgan, the faster we sell our energy security and the bigger the percentage we have to sell in the future. Secondly, Kinder Morgan has a bad reputation for lax environmental and safety standards. According to Carl Weimer, Executive Director of the Bellingham, Washington--based Pipeline Safety Trust, Kinder Morgan has a poor safety record, which he attributes to the company taking over a huge network of pipelines in a short time frame. He says they expanded rapidly and a lot of the pipelines they took over are older pipelines and that has undercut some of the safety. According to Terasen, many of our BC pipelines are approaching 50 years of age, and some, particularly under Vancouver, are as old as 70 years. Kinder Morgan is committed to getting gas to the US - will it cut corners here in Canada and compromise safety? Please halt the sale of Terasen Gas to Kinder Morgan or any other non-canadian entity to protect natural gas to myself and thousands of customers in British Columbia. Thank you.
