1 GMARC MEETING MINUTES 15-Feb-11 I. Call to Order by the President, Kurt WU8V at 7:03 PM II. Introductions, Upgrades, and Visitors There was 1 visitor Robbin K1KNN III. Minutes Minutes of the 18-Jan-2011 meeting were available on the web site and copies at the meeting. Motion to approve minutes by Scott W1BIC and seconded by Sean KD8NWR. Motion carried. IV. Treasurer's Report Ed KC8SBV GMARC Treasurer s Report February 15, 2011 Last Statement Balance 18-Jan-2011 $ 2, Check - Donation to Trinity Lutheran January Deposit Coffee Fund 7.50 January Deposit (2) 2011 $ February Bank Balance -- $ 2, Antenna Fund 1, General Fund Motion by Ben WB9FJO to accept the Treasurer s Report; seconded by Sean KD8NWR. Motion carried. V. Membership Report - Bobby N8CY We have 24 members who have paid their 2010 dues, and 29 who have paid 2011 dues. Robbin K1KNN purchased (2) Raffle Tickets and received a free membership with his purchase. The net change is +6 members for 2011 for a total of 29 members in good standing. Members are encouraged to pay their 2011 dues at the 15-Mar-2011 meeting. It was noted that we need to get the membership up to 40 to sustain the ongoing expense of the Club. VI. Donation of Yaesu FT-7900R/E Dual Band by Jim K8LFE Jim K8LFE had the Yaesu FT-7900R/E Dual Band Mobile radio he donated to the Club available for members to see. Motion by Bobby N8CY and seconded by Don K7SDF: Accept offer by Jim K8LFE to donate Yaesu FT-7900R/E radio to Club to be raffled off in a fundraiser Change the price of tickets to $10. If a non-member purchases two tickets, he will receive a membership in GMARC. Existing members can purchase tickets for $10 but with no membership extension Drawing will be at 1 st Trunk Swap on 07-May-2011, and radio will be given away on that date Change the Limit on number of tickets sold to 200

2 Motion carried. Raffle tickets were available at the meeting, and (7) were sold. $70 was turned over to the Treasurer. Jim K8LFE took (32) tickets (on consignment ) for sale at other clubs and at swaps. A very special presentation was made to Scott W1BIC making him the first Life Member of GMARC. A certificate signed by all Officer and Directors of GMARC -- was presented to Scot by Kurt WU8V. The certificate reads: This Certificate of Appreciation is awarded this 15 th Day of February, 2011 in recognition of your outstanding work, tireless dedication, and countless contributions as a founding member and Past- President of the General Motors Amateur Radio Club. The Officers, Board of Directors, and Membership of GMARC is proud to add your name to the Honor Roll of those who have served as its Officers and hereby inducts you as the first LIFE MEMBER of the General Motors Amateur Radio Club with all the rights and privileges accorded to regular dues-paying members. VII. Inter-Club Liaison Jim K8LFE Jim K8LFE brought door prizes and ran a raffle at this meeting (similar to USECA and L Anse Creuse) as an incentive for members to attend meetings. Total ticket sales were $42.00 and turned over to the Treasurer. The cost of items raffled-off was $ Jim noted that he will not be in attendance at the 15-Mar-2011 meeting and requested that someone else manage the door prize raffle at that meeting. Jim stated that Macomb Community College has a meeting every 3 rd Saturday to utilize their HAM equipment next session is February Mile and Hayes campus, Bldg. S Room F135 from 12 Noon 5 PM EST. Jim noted that L Anse Creuse ARC will have an antenna building meeting on Wednesday March 2, 2011 at Tucker Community Center Jefferson & Ballard Roads. Any kind of diapole antenna can be built at this meeting. You must register to participate. Cost will be the cost of materials. Contact Jim K8LFE at K8LFE@aol.com in advance of the meeting date to participate. You can also build a coaxial Bazooka if desired. Tools and materials (at cost) will be provided. Upcoming Swaps: Livonia Swap Sunday, Feb 20 th at 8 AM Toledo MRA 56 th Hamfest Sunday Mar 20 th at 8 AM Milford Swap Sunday, April 16 th at 8 AM (GMARC will have a free table courtesy of Miford ARC) Dayton Hamfest May 20-22, 2011 in Dayton, OH (1-Day Admission $25) ARRL Field Day June 25-26, 2011 The Livonia and Milford Swaps will be great opportunities to sell our raffle tickets for the FT-7900R/E radio and recruit new members.

3 Jim noted that the Arrow ARC in Ann Arbor will again this year be sponsoring a Motor Coach to the Dayton Hamfest on Saturday 21-May The cost is $60 and reservations must be made by 1-Apr Departure from Ann Arbor will be at 4:30 AM EST. Contact Michelle KD8GWX at before 01-Apr The cost of admission at the Dayton Hamfest is $25 (not included). VIII. New Business There is a 440-MHz Yagi antenna on W1BIC s roof that belongs to the Club. It can be moved to the new EchoLink location (when the weather gets better). Randy WF5X has agreed to take over the EchoLink link computer and transceiver (WW8GM/L). IX. Technical Committee Report Ray W8PIE The 2-meter cavities definitely need to be tuned. Ray estimates the cost to be $ , and this expenditure is already authorized as part of the antenna fund. X. Break 7:47 PM 8:20 PM XI. Additional Discussion Bob KA8VSI made a brief discussion about the spare parts suitcase. He asked if anyone had suggestions for items to be added to the suitcase. W1BIC noted that the original concept of the suitcase was to provide parts to the members that cannot be purchased at Radio Shack. W1BIC suggested that perhaps we add a good PowerPole crimper to the suitcase that can be used by the members.

4 WU8V reminded those present that GMARC has a free table at the Milford Swap on 16-Apr The following members need new badges: Gary KC8VQX, Jim K8LFE, Ed KC8SBV, and Robbin K1KNN, Sean KD8NWR, and Tony KD8OVN. XII. Attendance + Funds Collected 16 Members attended. There was (1) Visitor.
