2 Cupcakes for a Cause International Women s Day is an annual occasion to celebrate the achievements of women and bring awareness of women s issues to the community. Through the generosity of Prairie Girl Bakery s Supporting our Community program, Times Change received over twenty dozen of their cult favourite cupcakes. In less than two hours, Times Change sold out and raised over $400! Dozens of employees from the 30+ companies and embassies in the National Post building came to lend their support, celebrate and learn about Times Change. Not only did the cupcake fundraiser give the opportunity to forge new connections with employers and companies, it provided an engaging opportunity to increase our community profile. Women Gaining Ground Nearly 350,000 women in Toronto are living on low incomes; the most affected being visible minorities, immigrants, and single mothers. One cause is a rise in precarious employment; women are the most likely to hold multiple jobs, and account for more than half of part-time and minimum wage workers in Ontario. Times Change has long recognized career planning and exploration as a key part of women s empowerment and financial security. Through United Way s Women Gaining Ground grant, Times Change has expanded its career offerings to women working full time in precarious and insecure employment and moving women into sustainable, more secure futures. Providing mentorship as a key addition to career planning, the Career Advancement and Mentorship Program CAMP) offers an opportunity to connect directly with a mentor in their chosen career field, to guide and support women as they transition. Making a personal impact in the lives of women through education and employment, particularly for those in poverty, is a cause Times leads proudly. The Women Gaining Ground grant has given women new hope and opportunity to succeed in today s labour market.

27 Patient, professional, and a beautiful human being Ummu Shamte, Times Change Eileen Fadelle Volunteers make an invaluable contribution to the work we do at Times Change. They are women from all walks of life who commit their time, enthusiasm, and talents to help empower our community, and ensure that a strong and supported space continues to exist for future generations. A vital member of this community, Eileen Fadelle, passed away after her valiant battle with cancer last year. She is greatly missed by everyone who had the privilege of working with her. During her 23 years with Times Change, Eileen held many volunteer positions from working on the front line at reception, to behind the scenes as a Board member and eventually as President of the Board of Directors. She helped organize countless theatre benefits, variety shows and anniversary celebrations. Her exceptional dedication was recognized when she received the Government of Ontario s Volunteer Service Award on two occasions. Times Change is determined to continue Eileen s legacy. Last year staff members, along with the Fadelle family, formed Team Eileen and raised over $700, while participating in the Princess Margaret Walk for Cancer. The opportunity to spend time with Eileen s family and share memories is now an annual event. A special dedication plaque marks Eileen s volunteer service on the wall at the reception desk, where she greeted clients every Tuesday morning. Eileen left a tremendous and lasting impact on everyone who knew her at Times Change, and we are proud to celebrate her remarkable life.
