1 Winter 2018 CU News Together, We Make It Happen Kaua i Government Employees FCU proudly sponsors The Kaua i Fire Department and The Hawaii Fire Chiefs Association conference Kaua i Government Employees Federal Credit Union is a proud sponsor of the Friends of Kaua i Fire Department which provides: fire emergency, rescue equipment and supplies, funding for training and education, and is affiliated with the Hawaii Fire Chiefs Association. At this year s Hawaii Fire Chiefs Conference, we were privileged to produce the premiere video displaying the Kaua i Fire Department s selfless contributions to the Kaua i community. Thank you, Kaua i Fire Department for your invaluable service to the Kaua i community, we are incredibly honored to support you! Newsletter / Winter
2 COMMUNITY EVENTS International Credit Union Week Every year in October credit unions around the world celebrate their accomplishments and community impact by celebrating International Credit Union Week. This year KGEFCU celebrated with members of the community sharing their skills and expertise. Thank you to Kaua i Fire Department, Ocean Safety Bureau, Kaua i Police Department, Wilcox Elementary and Lihue Pharmacy for celebrating with us. This is a great time to get the community aware of some of the services these organizations have to offer. Newsletter / Winter
3 COMMUNITY EVENTS Kaua i Government Employees FCU joins partnership with The Kaua i Museum We are pleased to announce the addition of our newest Partner Organization, Kaua i Museum. With this partnership, anyone can become now eligible for a special Ohana membership which allows you and your immediate family members to become a Kaua i Museum member for just $25 per year. This new relationship also means that all members and future members of Kaua i Museum are now eligible to join KGEFCU. As an organization that believes in preserving the history and culture of the island, Kaua i Museum is a perfect partner for our credit union. Often people hear our name and assume that only Government Employees are able to join the credit union. While we are proud to serve Kauai s Government Employees, we are also happy to say that there are several ways that someone can qualify for membership. In addition to employees of the federal, state, or county government, here are a few other ways to qualify: immediate family and household members of a government employee, students and employees of Kaua i Community College, and employees of one of our many Partner Organizations. Any business may sign up to be a Partner Organization (also known as Select Employer Group) which is a no-cost, no-obligation benefit to its employees. KGEFCU member wins big Congratulations to our member Kevin Kailikini for winning a trip for two to Las Vegas, courtesy of Vacations Hawaii! Make sure to stay up to date with news and giveaways for your chance to win! Newsletter / Winter

5 Notice of Annual Meeting Slate of Candidates Cyndi Ayonon - Three Year After graduating from the University of Hawaii at Manoa with a B.A. in Journalism/Communications, Cynthia Cyndi Ayonon first worked on Oahu for 20 years before moving back home to Kaua i in radio broadcasting and public relations. Then she utilized her growing expertise for media promotions and communications as a public information officer for Kauai s Office of the Mayor. She was employed with KONG radio as a news reporter alongside Ron Wiley. Next she became an invaluable legislative analyst for the County of Kaua i s Office of the County Clerk. There she contributed toward the drafting and submission of significant legislation. After a brief service as an Administrative Aide to the County of Kauai s Boards and Commissions Office, her admirable work ethic led to her current position as Administrative Aide to Kaua i s Mayor for which her outstanding job performance was rewarded with the County Employee of the Year in As a successful entrepreneur, she has been a Co-owner of Kaua i Air Conditioning & Refrigeration for over 30 years. Cyndi has recently retired after nearly 30 years of service to the County. ED PUNUA SR. For the past 28 years, Edward L. Punua, Sr. has worked in the public accounting industry. A graduate of Kaua i High School and the University of Hawaii at Manoa, he gained tax and accounting experience at local Oahu CPA offices and the Honolulu office of Deloitte & Touche LLP before returning to Kaua i to establish his own CPA practice. Ed has served as a board member of the Hawaii Society of CPAs, Hawaiian Steel Guitar Association, and is currently a board member of the Hawaii State Board of Public Accountancy. Gratitude for his beautiful wife, Vanessa; four children, a new granddaughter and countless other blessings inspires Ed to daily serve others. He considers it an honor to serve as a board member of the Kaua i Government Employees Federal Credit Union and is thankful for the opportunity. Newsletter / Winter 2018 Federally insured by NCUA. 7 LETTER FROM THE CEO Aloha KGEFCU member-owners, Thank you for your loyalty to our local, member-owned credit union. This year has certainly flown has proven to be filled with times of extreme hardship and tremendous joy. Seasons of adversity produced by natural disasters and other events have unearthed sources of untapped strength, forged unbreakable bonds of fellowship, and produced invaluable opportunities to serve those who have been adversely affected by these devastating incidents. Our hearts are overflowing with sheer gratitude to the heroic Government workers, First Responders, and selfless volunteers who sacrificed their time and resources to provide help and hope to the hurting in our own Kaua i community. Entrusting KGEFCU with your hard-earned funds allows us to stimulate sustainable, economic growth for Kauai s local families and community. We are privileged to partner with you as advocates of keeping money from Kaua i, on Kaua i, and for Kaua i. Banking locally allows us to remain notfor-profit, thereby generating greater services such as lower interest rates, higher return yields, and other invaluable services for you, our esteemed members. Mahalo for your loyalty to our local, member-owned credit union over the past 71 years and may 2019 be an exciting chapter of renewed solidarity and unprecedented growth for Kaua i and, subsequently, for us all. Together, we make it happen. Respectfully yours, Monica Belz CEO & President Newsletter / Winter 2018 Federally insured by NCUA. Equal Housing Opportunity. 7
