3 Bergen County Floodplain Protection Program In 2014, Bergen County adopted new rules for the County Open Space Trust Fund to provide funding for floodplain protection to further support and encourage communities to pursue federal and state acquisition programs. Little Ferry, NJ Getty Images

4 Bergen County Floodplain Protection Program Priorities Work with municipalities to identify properties most susceptible to regular, chronic flooding. Restore and/or conserve the natural function of floodplains. Leverage funding from Federal and State program sources. Ridgewood, NJ Boyd Loving

7 Project Eligibility Criteria 1. Acquisition projects What is Eligible? 2. Residential properties; priority from willing sellers 3. Applications only from Bergen County municipalities 4. Properties that experience severe, repetitive loss or extreme damage

8 How does the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Categorize Flooded Properties? Repetitive Loss Property (RL) Two or more NFIP losses of at least $1,000 each have been paid within any 10-year rolling period since 1978 Severe Repetitive Loss Property (SRL) Four or more NFIP losses of at least $5,000 or Two NFIP losses where the cumulative amount of the building portion exceeds the market value of the building
