3 Bergen County Floodplain Protection Program In 2014, Bergen County adopted new rules for the County Open Space Trust Fund to provide funding for floodplain protection to further support and encourage communities to pursue federal and state acquisition programs. Little Ferry, NJ Getty Images

8 How does the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Categorize Flooded Properties? Repetitive Loss Property (RL) Two or more NFIP losses of at least $1,000 each have been paid within any 10-year rolling period since 1978 Severe Repetitive Loss Property (SRL) Four or more NFIP losses of at least $5,000 or Two NFIP losses where the cumulative amount of the building portion exceeds the market value of the building
