Khuntia Chairman IRDAI & IIRM Greetings and Welcome to IIRM To strengthen education in various areas of the Financial Services Sector, Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI) took the initiative of setting up IIRM at Hyderabad. The Institute of Insurance and Risk Management is an effort in the direction of establishment of an Institute of Global Standards, catering to all aspects of Financial Services. It has been conceived as a Centre of Excellence for advanced Research and Training in the areas of Financial Services, Insurance, Risk Management, Pension Fund Management, Actuarial Science, Analytics and the other needs of the Indian economy. The Institute approved by AICTE, Ministry of HRD, Government of India offers a wide variety of Courses / Programs / Specializations to meet the needs of various companies / entities in the Financial Services sector. The rapid strides made by the Information Technology in Insurance, Banking, Regulations and Compliances have opened up many more opportunities for the students of IIRM. In addition to the specialized knowledge inputs, the Institute facilitates development of students per se so that they can excel in the deployment of Soft Skills in the areas chosen by them. Also, in addition to Regular and Adjunct / Part Time / Visiting Faculty, the Institute is able to attract several serving professionals from industry, who share their rich experiences with the students of the Institute. The internships and placements facilitated by the Institute give an opportunity for the students to realize their career objectives. This has been possible because of the active involvement of various Insurance Companies, Banks, IT Companies and other entities in the respective Value Chains. The requirements for informed professionals has never been felt more acutely than today and therefore it has been the endeavour of the Institute to prepare students to the exacting demands of the entire gamut of the Financial Services industry. By its own goals and objectives, the Institute is uniquely placed to offer a platform to all those who look to the ever growing opportunities in the Services Sector. 4 About IIRM IIRM, promoted by IRDAI and Approved by AICTE, has been in existence for over a decade and is mandated to deliver excellence in education that meets the changing needs of the fast growing Industry and Economy at large. IIRM is one of its kind in the world (Promoted by the Regulator in the country). The Institute has been in the field of Education since 2002 imparting knowledge, skills, to students aspiring careers in Financial services focusing on Insurance and other allied sectors. IIRM has launched new initiatives in 2015 offering a Two year PG Diploma in Management, with a combination of electives offering opportunities to the candidates to occupy managerial positions in the areas of Finance, Financial Services, Insurance, Risk Management, Analytics, Actuarial Science etc. These courses are reviewed by our Academic Governing Council which consists of experts of the industry. IRDAI Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India constituted by an Act of Parliament, is a Promoter of IIRM. 2

7 Course Structure The flagship program of the Institute is spread over four semesters. First year concentrates on foundation techniques etc. Second year allows students to opt from an array of specializations to further their knowledge in areas of their interest. Institute facilitates internships which provides opportunity for practical insights. Selection of Specializations : Students can opt for two specialization from each of the following Finance Financial Services Insurance Actuarial Science Risk Management Health Insurance Marketing Analytics FINANCE : It is for those who crave to benefit from a better understanding of how the financial side of business operates. The subjects taught take a total realistic look into the broad aspects of financial management and relates theories, tools and techniques to practical aspects for the student. 5

8 FINANCIAL SERVICES : Students for this specialization will be equipped with practical and theoretical advances in finance, statistics and economics to advance their careers on the path to fast growing sectors of Finance, Banking, Insurance and Consulting etc. INSURANCE : Here the students are given comprehensive understanding of the world insurance industry with input on managerial ability. This specialization is a blend of domain knowledge and managerial skills. Courses of Insurance & Risk Management are accredited by CII, London. Students opting for these Specializations are eligible to obtain DipCII and ACII qualifications on taking few more examinations. ACTUARIAL SCIENCES : Actuarial science is the discipline that applies Mathematical and Statistical methods to assess valuations and risks in financial industries. Actuaries are trained professionals who analyze the financial consequences of risk. They use Mathematics, Statistics, and Financial theory to provide advice and solutions for business and societal issues. RISK MANAGEMENT : It involves understanding, analyzing and addressing risk to make sure organizations reach their objectives. HEALTH INSURANCE MARKETING : The student here encounters various subjects like Consumer Behaviors, International Marketing and Research, Brand Management, providing them a holistic view of Marketing. This specialization helps students to make effective Marketing decisions in various areas of Strategy framing, Advertising, Branding, etc. BUSINESS ANALYTICS : This specialization is a field of data analysis. It involves studying past historical data to research potential trends, to analyze the effects of certain decisions or events, or to evaluate the performance of a given tool or scenario. This data, when captured, formatted, manipulated, stored and analyzed can help a company to gain useful insight to increase revenues, get or retain customers and improve operations. The Institute also has modern audio-visual equipment, which caters to the needs of the students and the participants for their class room work, conferences, training programs and seminars. Library is an excellent Learning Resource Center for students and faculty. Users can access Books / Journals / real-time Case Studies. It offers a range of information services to support the learning process set to the highest professional standards. The place is stocked with national and international journals. IT LAB Computer Centre is well equipped with a state-of-art Local Area Network (LAN), providing multi-user environment & terminals on a windows platform. 11 Eligibility and Selection process PGDM 2 Years full time Master s level Program. Fresh batch starts in the month of July, 2018 ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA Any graduate from a recognized university with minimum 50% marks and valid scores of CAT / XAT / MAT / ATMA / GMAT / CMAT / Any state level management test. Candidates who are writing their final year exams can also apply. Those having qualification like AMIE or equivalent will also be considered for admission. SELECTION PROCESS Selection is based on the scores submitted and personal interview. Scholarships are available for students with good academic background.
