Birla. The aim was to provide basic workshop and testing facilities for entrepreneurs to set up industrial units in the region. Later, Shri G.P. Birla and Shri C.K. Birla Group established the Birla Institute of Applied Sciences (BIAS) in the same campus. It was mentored by BITS Mesra (Ranchi). BIAS operates three programmes namely; (1) B.Tech. (Electronics and Communication), (2) B.Tech. (Computer Science), and (3) MCA. All are under the Uttarakhand Technical University and accredited by the AICTE. Placement of the students has been very satisfactory. Over the years, BIAS has grown strength to strength. The campus occupies an area of about 10 ha. At present, it has modest infrastructure including modern library, class rooms, office block, laboratories, hostels for boys and for girls, playground, faculty houses etc. Located at the most beautiful site of Bhimtal town in the vicinity of a large cold water lake, it has thick plantation of diverse plant species all around. BIAS becomes an ideal place for higher technical education. Comments and suggestions on these are invited from all the stakeholders and all those interested in the activities of BIAS by 31 July, 2013 through to the Director, BIAS (director@birlainstitute.co.in). After incorporating the modifications, these would be put up to the Governing Board for approval. Till such time, the Institute would operate based on these.
