1 NEWSLETTER / ISSUE 1 2 ND QUARTER 2014 FROM THE EDITOR The other day a good friend invited my youngest and I to a father and daughter dance. Although this sounds like a simple affair, I can assure you that my date with this 6 year old girl was just as nerve wrecking as my first date with my wife. The instructions from the moms were precise; it was as if they wanted to teach us how we are supposed to treat them, the wives - as princesses. I had to buy a gift, an expensive gift as it turned out, and washed the Land Rover because it had to shine. Doors had to be opened and closed upon departure and arrival and the all important You are beautiful were drilled in by the pink brigade we were watched closely. I was dressed in 15 minutes but did not pass the inspection and was sent back because I did not shave. Not by my wife but by one of the other moms who felt that I looked too scruffy for the event organized for 6 year olds. The formalities went smoothly and they did look beautiful! At the dance, my date wanted to dance with me only; she did not want to play with her peers. My undivided attention was enough for her. It was not about the makeup or the dress or even the dance. It was about her and her father bonding; spending quality time. Although I always believed it, but never experienced it to this extend, the event again made me realize that an experience is worth much more than expensive gifts; it is the experiences we remember. My wife and I decided 5 years ago to come and experience life in the West Coast Lampiesbaai. This was supposed to be a temporary move we are still here As with many of you, the West Coast has grown on me and I feel privilege to have this quality of life.... At our first meeting the new Excom decided to bring out a quarterly newsletter. The idea behind the newsletter is to let everybody in Lampiesbaai feel more involved, give some feedback of decisions made and paint a general picture of where we are heading. We invite you, as home owner, to send us good ideas and participate in the future of Lampiesbaai. This newsletter will only be available in English to accommodate our English friends but also because my spell checker is in English. I hope you will find this in order. We will synchronize the publications with the school holidays. I also want to use this opportunity to thank all the Excom members for their contributions. Chair Person SOME FEEDBACK Lampiesbaai has a new developer Freedom Property Fund. The Freedom Property Fund is listed on the JSE and they started trading on 2014/06/12. For more information, you can visit their website at The Excom will meet with the developer in the following few weeks to discuss the new relationship. INSURANCE: All levy paying home owners are insured for short term building insurance. This means that if there is structural damage to your home or your geyser gives you problems, you are insured. Note that the Excom are exploring other insurance options, as discussed at our general meeting (the Excom will notify you on any changes to the insurance). 4 ARCHITECT: The Excom felt that it would be more beneficial to Lampiesbaai and its home owners to appoint a local architect. This includes balcony roofs and shutters. The application form is available at the Lampiesbaai office or you may request it from lampiesb@mweb.co.za. 5 FINAL WORD The Excom would like to thank the home owners of Lampiesbaai for paying their levies. There are however a large amount of outstanding levies and a few non paying owners. We urge these home owners to pay outstanding levies or at least make an arrangement. The Excom will take nonpayment very seriously in the future. The next general meeting will be in the September/October school holidays. The Excom will communicate the date through to all its members at least 30 days before the meeting.
