2 Page 2 Hello My name is Mr. Big Muhn-Kee. I was introduced to attendees of the 26 th Annual Assembly in Memphis, Tennessee as the Mascot for Leon Yard. My stay was brief but I wanted everyone to know that I have taken a Pledge and made a Promise to raise money for Leon s Charity of Choice Hunters Helping Kids. I hope to travel a lot and meet as many Pioneers as I can. If you missed this Assembly, I think you missed a good one. There was lots of Fellowship and Fun! We conducted the necessary business and we viewed some local attractions. Memphis is a true history book. If there is anything Leon Yard can do to make Pioneering better please contact him by at leon.yard@comporium.com. He also made a Promise and Pledge to make this a great year for Pioneers. Remember this year s motto is Pioneers Don t Monkey Around!!!

3 Page 3 MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE Greetings, Fellow Pioneers and welcome to post- Memphis. We're not far from the halfway mark for 2016 and we want to be sure to take advantage of all opportunities. For example, review your A-Z Report for your member paid-up status. We can do only so much on the national level and your local assistance is so important. And, don't forget recruiting new members as these are always critical to continued growth. We will be developing membership incentives again to encourage organization-wide assistance with membership growth and trust each of you will get involved to help us promote our fine volunteer organization. Remember, the Independent Telecommunications Pioneer Association is in its 94th year which means the 100th Anniversary is just around the corner and what a pioneer year that will be!!! 5 Page 5 Since 1989, Can Do Canines has provided assistance dogs to people with disabilities, free of charge. Our fully-trained dogs, often adopted from local animal shelters, are provided to clients with mobility challenges, hearing loss or deafness, seizure disorders, diabetes complicated by hypoglycemia unawareness or children with autism. Can Do Canines is the largest provider of assistance dogs in Minnesota and relies on individual contributions to support its important work. It costs on average $25,000 to train and place an assistance dog. A defining characteristic of Can Do Canines is its commitment to find new ways for assistance dogs to help individuals with disabilities. The organization s leadership in thinking outside the box can be seen through a variety of innovations. Can Do Canines pioneered the training of assistance dogs to detect low glucose levels for people with type I diabetes and Can Do Canines was one of the first organizations in the country to train a Seizure Assist Dog to interact with a Vagus Nerve Stimulator (VNS), a device implanted in the chest of an individual to help control seizures Please help the North Star Chapter by making a monetary donation or by purchasing items on the wish list.
