2 M E S S A G E The launch of the Philippine Non Life Insurance Awards or PIRA Awards is eagerly awaited by the non life insurance companies in the Philippines. Since 2011, when these were introduced, the PIRA Awards have become a much sought after badge of excellence and peer group endorsement. This is more so now that insurance has become more visible. More people now recognize the importance insurance plays in the economy. And more acknowledge its impact on society. Hence, awards such as these have a greater meaning and become the pride of those who receive them. The race for the 2016 PIRA Awards will be more interesting, to say the least. This year, we are introducing the Outstanding Young Manager Award or OYMA. This is patterned after the Young ASEAN Manager Award (YAMA) of the ASEAN Insurance Council. The OYMA winner will be the Philippines' candidate for the YAMA next year. This new category shows the importance placed by the non life insurance sector on its young managers. We want to encourage excellent work among our young executives. We also would like to promote innovation, hence the Outstanding Innovation Award that we are also giving this year. And finally, we want to continue recognizing our industry partners in the academe and the media through special PIRA Awards categories that we have reserved for them. The winners of the 2016 PIRA Awards will be announced at a Gala Dinner on 7 October 2016 at the New World Hotel. 3 H O W T O J O I N Who can join? Entries are sought after from all non life insurance companies in the Philippines, both local and foreign, as long as they are members of the Philippine Insurers and Reinsurers Association. Entries in more than one category are allowed. Companies or individuals may be nominated for an award by a third party or by self nomination through submission of a nomination form. Self Nomination If you are nominating yourself or your own company, using the criteria for guidance, explain in not more than 1,000 words why you or your company should win an award. Third Party Nominations If you are nominating another individual or company, submit a nomination form and a 200 word statement summarizing why the aplicant would be a worthy recipient of an award. If the nomination is shortlisted, PIRA will contact the nominee and invite him/her or the company's representative to submit a full application for the award categories to which they have been nominated. Application Requirements A nomination form is included with this kit. All entries must be written in English and must not exceed 1,000 words and must specifically address each criteria. Entries received without the 1,000 word write up or 200 word statement (for thirdparty nominations) will NOT be considered. Write ups must use the following format: The font use must be Rimes New Roman, size 13, Left and right margin must be 1.0". Line spacing must be 1.0 Nominations must be submitted before 7 September 2016 at the PIRA Secretariat.

4 O U T S T A N D I N G Y O U N G M A N A G E R A W A R D Importance of the Award This award recognizes up and coming non life insurance executives who could very well be the future of the industry. Of all the categories in the PIRA Award, this is the award that offers more than a trophy. Its winner will have the privilege to be the Philippines' entry to the Young ASEAN Managers Award. Criteria Companies or individuals may nominate any young manager, or the young manager may nominate himself/herself. The nominees will be judged according to the following criteria: Must be 39 years old and below as of January 1, Nominees born before 1 January 1977 are not eligible to join. Must have been in the non life insurance industry for at least five (5) years already. Must show evidence of competence and outstanding leadership. Must show proof of being innovative and creative in managing people and the business. Must show evidence of being successful in facing a difficult management challenge Must have contributed in some way to the development of the non life insurance industry.

5 O U T S T A N D I N G I N N O V A T I O N A W A R D Importance of the Award This is open to all non life insurance companies operating in the Philippines. This award focuses on the effective use of technology by companies as part of the companies' shift to digitalization. Covering both business to consumer and business to business activities, the judges will be looking for a combination of: How firms have engaged customers through social media, apps and mobile devices for better consumer interactions. How companies applied the latest technologies and generated profits or goodwill from customers. Criteria Companies or individuals may be nominated for this award. The nominees will be judged according to the following criteria: Must have undertaken an innovative project within the period 31 August 2015 to 31 August The innovative project must involve the use of technology. The innovative project must have a significant impact on the company's operations, be it in marketing, underwriting, or claims management. The gains achieved by such innovative project must have actual proof or evidence.

6 O U T S T A N D I N G i n i n s u r a n c e e d u c a t i o n A W A R D Importance of the Award Since 2011, PIRA has been giving Outstanding in Insurance Education Awards to various colleges and universities that teach insurance and risk management either as a course or a subject. These awards are meant to recognize the important role educational institutions play in promoting insurance. They also serve as incentive to other schools to include insurance in their respective curriculum. Criteria Colleges or universities based in the Philippines may be nominated for this award. The nominees will be judged according to the following criteria: Must have a program or course related to insurance or risk management. Must have professors or faculty members who are knowledgeable about insurance or risk management. Must be actively encouraging students to study insurance or risk management through seminars or forums that allow them to interact with executives from the insurance industry. Must be consistently on the lookout for ways to improve their curriculum through partnerships with the Insurance Commission or the insurance industry.

7 O U T S T A N D I N G i n i n s u r a n c e J O U R N A L I S M A W A R D Importance of the Award This award is given to media practitioners whose works have a major impact on the insurance industry. It recognizes the indispensable role of the media in educating the public about insurance and communicating to the people the important issues of the industry. It also recognizes the virtues required of the media profession, particular integrity, diverse knowledge and insight, and responsibility. Criteria Media organizations such as newspapers, television or radio stations and even Internet websites and their individual personnel may be may be nominated for this award. The nominees will be judged according to the following criteria: Must have undertaken a significant amount of work related to insurance within the period 31 August 2015 to 31 August Must have displayed competence in reporting or articulating the value of insurance to the general public. Must possess the virtues of integrity, trustworthiness and professionalism, which the insurance industry espouses and promotes.

8 I C O N o f t h e i n d u s t r y a w a r d Importance of the Award This is open to all non life insurance industry executive who has invested a major part of his professional career for the industry's growth and development. This is the highest award PIRA can give to an individual. Since 2011, only two industry leaders have received this award, namely Don Jaime Zobel de Ayala and former Ambassador Alfoso Yuchengco. PIRA reserves the right to give this award to anybody it deems to be deserving of such recognition even in the absence of a nomination. Criteria To be considered an industry icon, one must have been a part of the non life insurance industry for a considerable amount of time. As such, the Icon of the Industry awardee must possess the following qualifications: At least 60 years old and must have served the non life insurance industry for more than 30 years. Must be considered a leader and role model in his or her company. Must have contributed substantially to the growth, development and the promotion of the good image of the non life insurance industry through his or her work.
