4 Budget Guidelines: What are important priorities? District s Values and Goals. The need to hire and retain highly qualified staff, teaching within established student/teacher ratio guidelines. Continue the ongoing refinement of curriculum, instruction and assessment practices. Develop and maintain educational resources and a technology infrastructure that supports student learning and meets District goals.

Over $800,000 in Federal Stimulus and one time funds no longer available Special Education tuition decreases significantly due to students graduating and anticipated state Circuit Breaker reimbursement Additional teachers and staff proposed at the secondary level to address enrollment Efficiencies and additional capacity incorporated into budget plan: Provide student classroom support Reorganize special education leadership Increase community and staff services

14 Special Education Program Improvements A reorganized special education leadership structure will: Scholarship Build capacity in each school for student, teacher, and parent support Ensure consistent and systemic approach to the development of IEPs, professional development, and special education staff supervision and evaluation Ensure vertical alignment of all programs PreK-12 Provide stronger and more consistent transition planning PreK-12 Stem the tide of out-of-district placements and allow for additional program efficiencies Allow principals to ensure a comprehensive and systemic Response to Intervention program implementation Develop stronger, more trusting relationships with families and staff.

Scholarship Transportation savings and cost avoidance: $390,000 Health insurance cost avoidance through adoption of rate saver plans: $787,000 Additionally, the increased use of technology has allowed us to: Route buses more effectively Reduce clerical and supply costs in the human resources department, cafeterias, and in school offices
