Amanda Fisher CTA ATT(Fellow) TEP Amanda Fisher began her career with HM Revenue and Customs and later moved over into practice and qualified with Grant Thornton where she gained considerable experience dealing with private tax clients and their businesses, trusts and estates. Since becoming self employed in 2004, Amanda has her own tax and accountancy practice of private clients, alongside her other freelance work as a lecturer, examiner and author. She also regularly works as a consultant to firms and practitioners on an array of tax matters, specialising in capital taxes, trust and estate matters. Amanda has devoted time as a committee member for STEP and ICAEW and is currently a branch committee member for ATT/CIOT. Phil Frost BA ACA Phil qualified with Coopers & Lybrand in his home town of Sheffield, before joining Financial Training (now Kaplan). He subsequently moved to the midlands and became FTC s regional director before joining Mercia in He lectures on auditing and accounting areas with a wide portfolio of specialisms including charities; company law; properties and international accounting standards. Malcolm Greenbaum ACA CTA Malcolm is a director at Greenbaum Training and Consultancy Limited. He is a UK Chartered Accountant and Chartered Tax Advisor winning the John Wood Medal in the November 1995 CIOT sitting for the best paper on business taxation. He was previously Director of Finance and Taxation Programmes at BPP Professional Education. Andrew Güntert MSc FCA Andrew specialises in auditing, financial reporting and associated areas and has been delivering CPD lectures for some years. He was with ATC before joining Mercia. He has a strong interest in technical issues, writing regularly for the specialist press and is an active member of the ICAEW s Audit and Assurance faculty serving on several committees including the Technical and Practical Auditing Committee. Peter Herbert BSc FCA Peter qualified as a Chartered Accountant with an international accountancy firm before moving in to industry. He writes and presents technical updates for national firms of accountants and qualified accountants of private and listed companies. Peter specialises in financial reporting, auditing and practice regulation, and regularly carries out compliance reviews for firms of accountants. Mark Morton BA CTA ATT Mark joined HMRC in 1989 and undertook their full training exams. In 1996 he was made Deputy District Inspector for the Derby area and had detailed experience of all types of Revenue enquiries. Mark joined Mercia as an experienced lecturer and now provides a wide variety of CPD training around the country. He is also a well known contributor to professional publications and provides technical consultancy to the accountancy profession. Pat Nown ACA CTA ATT Pat joined Mercia in 2008 as a tax consultant lecturer, bringing a wealth of experience with her. She worked for many years with FTC Kaplan where she was Tax Product Director for the Midlands. Building on her successful exam based lecturing career she has become an experienced CPD lecturer and technical consultant across a wide range of tax areas as well as being involved in our marketing support publications. John Selwood ACA John is a chartered accountant and independent training consultant. He lectures on money laundering, auditing and financial reporting. He also writes technical material for publishers. Previously, he has been the technical partner for a top thirty firm of accountants and head of CharterGroup the accountancy network. John Sharkey BA(Econ) ACA John is Director of Mercia s Management Training Division and specialises in leadership, management and personal skills training for accountants in practice. He joined the Mercia consultancy team in 1998 and has built Mercia s Management Training Division into one of the leading providers of management and personal skills training to the independent accountancy sector. His presentations are renowned for their energy, enthusiasm and practical relevance and for challenging participants to achieve their full potential. David Smith FCCA David lectures on Mercia s Audit and Accountancy courses. Bill Telford BA FCA Bill runs Telford Financial Training but for ten years prior to that was a partner in Baker Tilly, responsible for their national training programme. Bill is an experienced trainer with many years of experience on the CPD circuit. Mike Thexton MA FCA CTA Mike qualified as a Chartered Accountant in 1983 and as a Chartered Tax Adviser in 1984, and has been training accountants since that time. He presents general tax updates for practitioners and accountants in industry throughout the UK, as well as more detailed courses on CGT for stockbrokers and VAT for general practitioners/vat specialists. He runs the ATII programme for VAT specialists for a large firm. Mike also writes on a variety of tax topics in the professional press. Chris Thorpe LLB CTA TEP Chris is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation and full member of the Society of Trust & Estate Practitioners, having previously qualified as a barrister (nonpractising) and worked as a primary school teacher. He qualified with Grant Thornton in Kettering within the agricultural sector of which he has retained a particular interest. Prior to joining Mercia he was a tax director with Haines Watts in Exeter where he lives. He specialises primarily in capital and personal taxes with a particular interest in trusts and inheritance tax. Jeremy Williams ACA Jeremy joined Mercia in 2000 as an audit and accounts lecturer, having qualified with KPMG in Leicester. As well as lecturing on a wide variety of audit and accounting topics, Jeremy is responsible for FCA related products as well as providing technical support and developing our online practical workshops. Jeremy is also a member of the ICAEW Audit & Assurance Faculty Committee.
