1 PUNE CANTONMENT BOARD ANNUAL ADMINISTRATION REPORT CONSTITUTION OF THE BOARD Pune is a Class I Cantonment. The Board consists of 16 Members including eight Elected Members with President, CEO as Member- Secretary. a. President Brig. Rajbir Singh : to Major General A Chakravarty : to b. 2 3. MEASURES TAKEN TO AUGMENT REVENUE The triennial revision of assessment for the period has been completed. Tax bills with arrears have been issued and collection of taxes is in progress. The Triennial Revision of Assessment for the period will be initiated shortly. 4. WATER SUPPLY The water supply in Pune Cantonment is provided by Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), which recovers water charges directly from the consumers. The Board has provided 360 public water stand posts at various places for the benefit of weaker sections. The per capita supply is 150 Ltrs. Per day. 5. SANITATION Sanitation in Cantonment area is satisfactory. Modernisation of garbage collection was introduced with procurement of compactor. Two compactors purchased are used for better quality of work. Solid Waste Management program has been undertaken. Casual labours were engaged to segregate bio-degradable waste in trenching ground. Measures are taken by giving public notice in local newspapers and pamphlets for prohibiting of manufacturing / supplying / usage of polythene, for ban on polythene and plastic bags. Raids are carried out for confiscating plastic bags, not conforming to the laid down norms of the Maharashtra Pollution Board. Few roads within the limits of Cantonment Board are given on contract for night sweeping. Door to

3 door collection of garbage has been introduced for implementation of Solid Waste Management and Handling Rules, 2000 as notified by the Ministry of Environment and Forest Government of India on TAXES It is proposed that few taxes namely Tree Tax, Fire Cess levied by neighbouring Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) be also levied by Pune Cantonment Board. Other component of taxes levied by Pune Cantonment Board are property tax, sanitary cess and water tax, which are levied by Pune Municipal Corporation, but the incidence of taxation is low in Cantonment as compared to PMC.

4 7. HOSPITALS AND DISPENSARIES The Board maintains a 100 bedded hospital with separate wards and surgical facilities. In addition, there are three dispensaries. A total of 3568 indoor patients and 1,09,641 outdoor patients were treated during Measures were taken to out-source house keeping of Cantonment General Hospital during the year. During the year, average 8000 children were administered with Pulse Polio doses on each National Immunization days during the year. 154 Family Planning Operations were carried out during the year. 8 EDUCATION The Board runs three High Schools and five Primary Schools of Marathi Medium and one English Medium Primary School with total student strength of 4898.

6 11. MARKET Cantonment Board maintains four Public markets having a total of 545 stalls. 12 FIRE FIGHTING The Board maintains a Fire Brigade Unit. During the year fire calls were attended. 13 BIRTHS AND DEATHS There were 4665 births and 798 deaths reported / registered in this office during the year under report. Data of births has been computerized and data of death has been written in Death Register. 14. GENERAL The overall administration of the Cantonment is satisfactory. The audit of stores, cash accounts etc of this Board has been completed for the period ending March, Certificate to that effect from RAO (MES), Pune is enclosed.
