2 THE CITY ATTORNEY S OFFICE Missio: To provide effective represetatio i the public iterest. The City Attorey is a small, but effective team cosistig of the City Attorey, two Assistat City Attoreys, ad three support staff, ad is complimeted by outside litigatio cousel. The City Attorey serves as legal advisor to the Coucil, the City Maager ad other City officials; approves all proposed ordiaces, resolutios ad other legal documets; represets the City i all legal actios; ad eforces the Sata Maria Muicipal Code. THE POSITION This is a at-will positio withi the City Attorey s Office that serves as part of the City s maagemet team ad is a divisio head i the City Attorey s Office. This positio assists the City Attorey with all operatioal ad legal matters, ad provides a wide rage of advice ad support to all City departmets, elected ad appoited officials. This positio also oversees the Code Compliace Divisio, icludig six staff members, ad assists with departmet budget preparatio ad oversight.

3 THE IDEAL CANDIDATE Ideal cadidates will have a high degree of professioal idepedece ad exceptioally good legal judgmet. They will also have a prove track record of providig exemplary customer service, while beig flexible, collaborative, proactive, ad ifluetial. The Ideal Cadidate Will LEGAL/OPERATIONAL ACUMEN Defed ad provide day-to-day legal advice for City officials, Departmet Directors ad employees. Draft cotracts, opiios, resolutios ad ordiaces, etc. Oversee civil litigatio ad crimial prosecutios arisig from violatios of the Muicipal Code. Coordiate ad moitor ivestigatios, settlemets, ad litigatios. Represet the City i discovery matters ad egotiate civil settlemets ad agreemets. Develop policy ad assist with updates to the Muicipal Code ad operatioal procedures. Have decisio-makig resposibilities for the Office ad act as City Attorey i his absece. Be assiged as legal cousel to the Plaig Commissio. Direct legal process work i evirometal, lad use, aexatio proceedigs, etc. Atted City Coucil meetigs, ad other boards ad commissios as ecessary. Assist i all of the admiistrative fuctios of the office, icludig budget preparatio ad admiistratio, oversight of litigatio expeses, ad hirig, developmet, supervisio ad evaluatio of employees. Make every reasoable effort to cotiually improve the maer i which the job is performed ad icrease the quality of service to the public. LEADERSHIP / CUSTOMER SERVICE Take a active role i providig staff with professioal growth opportuities. 4 EMPLOYMENT STANDARDS Graduatio from a accredited law school. Four years of law experiece. Active membership, i good stadig, with the State Bar of Califoria. Possessio of valid Califoria Driver Licese, with a satisfactory drivig record, by the date of appoitmet. Ability to successfully pass a backgroud ivestigatio performed by the Sata Maria Police Departmet. Preferred, but ot required: Legal cocetratio i oe or all of the followig: lad use, code eforcemet, civil liability, ad persoel. Backgroud servig muicipal cliets either i private practice, or withi a muicipal orgaizatio, ad familiarity workig i a uio eviromet.

6 SALARY & BENEFITS The aual salary rage is: $119,462 $145,212 DOE/DOQ; salary will be egotiated depedig upo qualificatios ad experiece. Auto Allowace: A aual allowace of $109/moth. Telephoe/PDA Stiped: Stiped of up to $115/moth. Retiremet: CalPERS with a 2% at 55 formula for classic members ad 2% at 62 for ew members. New employee could cotribute up to 8% of member share. Deferred Retiremet: City cotributes $11.54 per pay period toward a 457 deferred compesatio pla. Health Isurace: City cotributes up to $1,056/ moth towards a choice pla. Post-Employmet Health Pla (PEHP): City cotributes $92 per pay period to a fud that will provide reimbursemet for out-of-pocket cost of qualified medical expeses ad medical isurace premiums upo separatio or retiremet. Detal & Visio Isurace: City pays for etire family. Vacatio: Miimum 2 weeks/ year ad up to 4 weeks. Holidays: 7 holidays a year; ad eligible to receive, o a pro-rated basis, forty hours of floatig time a year to be scheduled off or cashed out. Sick: 12 days/year. Other: Short-/Log-term disability; life isurace, tuitio reimbursemet, as well as a variety of optioal employee-paid plas.
