25 Retirement for a Texas School Employee Teacher Retirement System (TRS) is a defined benefit plan TRS Defined benefit plan is a retirement plan that are based on a formula: (Years of Services x 2.3% x Five Year Average Salary) divided by 12 Participants prior to August 2014 participants must reach age and service equals 80 (Rule of 80) Participants after September 2014 can retire after the age of 62 regardless of the number of years of service Participants contribute 7.7% in place of social security Participants do contribute to Medicare
