2 Introduction To capture the current recruitment trends, jobsdb has compiled a salary report based on the most updated information of job seeker members. The report aims to compare the changes in salaries and bonuses between 2017 and 2018, and to find out the latest job-changing situation among job seekers in Hong Kong. 3 Scope and Methodology 1. Objective The aim of this survey is to: 1) Help job seekers review their present salaries and adjust their expected salaries / benefits when they go job hunting. 2) Help companies make informed hiring decisions, and adjust the salaries and benefits of current staff. 2

4 Scope and Methodology 2. Survey Coverage The survey covered 2,006 job seekers from 24 job functions. 5 Scope and Methodology 3. Datum Point Present basic monthly salaries (excluding any bonuses, but including commission) of surveyed job seekers as at 1 March 2018 were recorded, and adjustment of basic monthly salaries compared with those in 2017 was captured. 4. Data Collection Method The survey was conducted by an online questionnaire. Job seekers were invited to fill in the questionnaire from 13 March to 15 April Data Analysis Surveyed job seekers were requested to provide data of their basic monthly salaries as at 1 March 2018, recent salary adjustment, bonus, double pay, job status, number of working hours, willingness and reasons to get promotion. The data was analyzed to determine the arithmetic average for salary adjustment and bonus received. To avoid extreme values, outliers with values that is more than 3 standard deviations from the mean were excluded from the data. Analysis was conducted to identify any differences that might exist in salary and bonus adjustment among 24 job functions (Percentage of monthly salary adjustment in 2018 by position will only be shown if sufficient data is collected for calculation) 4

6 Definition Basic monthly salary (HK$): the present monthly salary excluding any bonuses (both guaranteed and non-guaranteed bonuses) but including commission. The present salary was recorded as at 1 March Average: a mathematical average of a set of data values (basic monthly salaries, salary adjustments, and bonus received). To avoid extreme values, outliers with values that are more than 3 standard deviations from the mean were excluded from the data. 5

Job hunting status for unemployed 2.3) Expected salary adjustment in new job compared with previous job (Among unemployed respondents) For the unemployed respondents with work experience, 55% of them expect to have a salary increase compared with their previous job, while 25% of them predict they may have a salary cut. 13 3.3) Percentage of monthly salary adjustment and satisfaction rating in 2018 By job function The average salary adjustment in 2018 was 5.7%, increased from 3.9% in 2017 and 3.6% in Banking / Finance (8.0%) and IT (7.0%) are reported to have the highest increase in salary. 18 3.6) Monthly salary adjustment in 2018 By job position Among all job positions, the average salary adjustment rate ranges from -0.5% to 19.1%. The highest average salary increase was found in Risk Analyst (19.1%), followed by Senior Auditor (14.5%), Network Engineer (13.3%) and Business Development Manager (13.3%). Salary adjustment details of the following job functions will be presented separately. 62 7. Summary The survey reveals that the overall average pay rise in 2018 was 5.7%, much higher than 2017 s 3.9%. The highest increase in salary was found in Banking / Finance (8.0%) and IT (7.0%). The remaining job functions recorded a pay rise ranging from 3.1% to 7%. The highest pay rise goes to Risk Analyst (19.1%) while Assistant Merchandiser got a pay cut of 0.5%. 57% of respondents received a bonus in 2018 and the average bonus size is 1.6 months of basic salary, more than 2017 s 1.5 months. 30% of respondents work for 46 hours or more per week. Long working hours is serious especially for Hospitality and F&B, with 70% of them working over 51 hours per week. 80% of respondents want to get a job promotion. The most common reasons for wanting to be promoted are salary increase and a recognition of efforts ; while the most common reasons for not wanting to be promoted are maintaining work-life balance and that salary increase does not correspond with workload / working hours increase. 51% of respondents claimed that they took on more job responsibility proactively in an attempt to get a job promotion. 36% of them enrolled for further studies, and 19% of them worked crazy long hours and joined company activities actively.
