Great Benefits Opportunity for Advancement Specialized Training and Career Development SALARY The starting salary for a Police Officer is $32,361 After one year of service the annual salary increases to $51,449 Salary step increases for up to five years of service Top pay annual salary after five years of service is $90,000 PAID TIME OFF 12 paid holidays a year. 18 paid vacation days annually. Comprehensive Sick Leave Policy. HEALTH BENEFITS Comprehensive Medical, Dental, Prescription and Vision. PENSION Service Retirement: After 20 years of service as a Port Authority Police Officer, you are eligible to receive a pension, regardless of age, consisting of 50 percent of your final compensation. DEFERRED COMPENSATION PLANS Officers are eligible to participate in a NY State deferred compensation plan. LIFE INSURANCE Active members are covered by a group life insurance policy that provides three times their final average annual salary. TUITION REIMBURSEMENT Officers are eligible to receive tuition reimbursement at a rate of up to 80 percent of the cost. LEAVE OF ABSENCE Maternity, child care, education, family leave, or military service. HEALTH BENEFITS (RETIREMENT) Police Officers who attain 20 years of service are entitled to full medical, prescription, vision and dental coverage. The salary and benefits above are subject to change in accordance with the labor contract.

4 WHAT DO WE EXPECT FROM YOU. You might not know why our job takes a certain kind of candidate, but it does. The successful Police Officer demonstrates: Integrity Professionalism Sound Judgment Sense of Service EDUCATION To apply to take the written exam a candidate must have: A High School Diploma or GED. A candidate must have upon passing the written exam: A minimum of 60 college credits from an accredited college or university or An honorable discharge from the United States Military after serving a minimum of two full years of continuous active duty. AGE Courage Compassion Resourcefulness Teamwork All candidates must be: 20 years of age to apply to take the written exam. 21 years of age and have not yet reached their 35 th birthday at time of appointment to the Police Academy. If you are a military veteran who is 35 years of age or older at the time of appointment to the Police Academy, the Port Authority will allow veterans to deduct up to six years of military service from their age. A candidate must be a United States citizen and have a current, valid driver s license at time of appointment to the Police Academy. YOUR GROWTH HAPPENS HERE. Our Port Authority Police have a unique mission: They protect a region and have law enforcement jurisdiction in two states. Their focus is transportation security unlike that of any other police force in the country. The duties of Port Authority Police include preliminary criminal investigation, emergency response, antiterrorism, commercial vehicle inspections, directed patrols and aircraft rescue and firefighting, if assigned to the ARFF cadre. Successful candidates must be capable of meeting all the challenges of the job. PORT AUTHORITY POLICE OFFICERS Patrol areas to ensure the safety and security of the community and Port Authority facilities. Respond to service calls at all Port Authority facilities. Administer first-aid and take other related actions as needed in emergencies. Direct the movement of vehicular and pedestrian traffic at or in the vicinity of a facility. Enforce criminal and traffic laws.
