4 GENERAL INFORMATION 4 JUDGES Exhibitors are not permitted to act as judges in a class in which he or she exhibits or is directly or indirectly interested. Judges must not award prizes to an unworthy exhibit. In the absence of competition, or where only one exhibit is entered, 1st, 2nd, 3rd or no premiums will be awarded according to the merit of the exhibit. Judges will make special mention of meritorious exhibits for which no premium is offered. Interference with judges will not be permitted. Interfering exhibitors will be barred from competition. All award books or sheets must be properly signed by the judges and returned to the head of the department immediately after the completion of awards. In paying premiums, no evidence of awards will be recognized except the entry book and sheets, signed by superintendents and judges. Ribbons, cards and labels that may be attached to exhibits will not be recognized. The decision of the judges will be final in all cases except where error, fraud, misrepresentation or collusion, not discovered at the time of the award, is proven. In such cases, the decision of the Management will be final. There is no entry fee. Exhibitors, upon delivery of their article or articles to the proper department, will be given an exhibitors ticket which will bear the identifying numbers of the exhibit. This entitles Exhibitors to purchase one (1) Exhibitor Admission Ticket ($8.00 value) for $4.00 for each item entered. These Special Tickets are available in the Exhibition Hall when entering your items. THEY WILL NOT BE AVAILABLE ON ANY OTHER DATES. ONLY ONE TICKET PER ITEM ENTERED. This Coupon Void if reproduced or tampered with in any way. Exhibits which have been erroneously entered may, at the discretion of the Director in Charge and Superintendent of the Department, be transferred to the proper class previous to the judging. 6 Department 1 SPECIAL FEATURES 6 Guidelines for the Pumpkin Decorating contest 1. Pumpkins may be grown from seeds or purchased. 2. Pumpkins are not to be carved or cut in any manner. 3. There should not be any identifying marks or pictures with your pumpkin. 4. Decorated pumpkins must be done by the child. 5. Pumpkins will be entered in Horticultural Hall and displayed in Horticultural Hall. Poster Contest Know Your Farmer FOR EXHIBITS IN HORTICULTURAL HALL USE GATE NO. 2 (MADISON AVE. AT RICHLAND AVE.) ONLY! Sponsored by Class # Age 1st 2en 3rd 4th 5th $18 $16 $14 $12 $ $18 $16 $14 $12 $ $18 $16 $14 $12 $10 Criteria for the State Contest: 1. Only one poster may be submitted per student, per age group. There will be three state competitions: ages 8-11, 12-14, and Students must be in one of these age groups as of June 1, 2016 to qualify, and be a resident of Pennsylvania. 2. The poster size must be 14 x 22 inches or 14 ½ x 22 inches, equivalent to one-half of a standard poster board. Other sizes will not be accepted for judging. 3. The theme is Know Your Farmer. Students should use this theme on their poster. Exhibitors using other themes will be disqualified. 4. Posters will be evaluated on use of the theme, visual appearance and creativity in relation to the exhibitor s age. 5. Pre registration for mail in entries closes August 23 rd and online entries close September 5 th. Posters may be brought to Horticultural Hall September 6 th and 7 th.

7 Department 1 SPECIAL FEATURES 7 Department 1 The Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off sponsored by Brown s Orchards & Farm Market The challenge has been made to all growers of Giant Pumpkins. Bring your heavy weight pumpkin to the 2016 York Fair and enter it in this Big contest. You may enter your pumpkin at the Horticultural Hall, Thursday September 8 from 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. for the contest are: 1. Heaviest Pumpkin - $1.00 per Lb. 2. Runner-up - $.75 per Lb. 3. Second Runner-up - $.50 per Lb. Winning pumpkins become the property of Browns Orchards and Farm Market.

Personal entries must be made in Horticultural Hall on the Fair Grounds as follows: Wednesday, September 6, 1:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. Thursday, September 7, 9:00 A.M. to 6:00 P.M. Exhibitors with multiple entries may submit a list by mail to the York County Agricultural Society. (Entry blanks are available by calling the Fair Office weekdays 9:00 to 4:00) Mailed application will be accepted until Aug. 24th. Entries will be recorded and identifying cards and/or labels will be ready at the exhibit hall when exhibits are delivered during the hours scheduled above. There is no entry fee. Exhibitors, upon delivery of their article or articles to the proper department, will be given an exhibitors ticket which will bear the identifying numbers of the exhibit. The management will exercise reasonable diligence to protect exhibits until 7:00 P.M. Tuesday but will consider exhibits left after that time to be abandoned by exhibitor. Names will not be permitted on exhibits until judging is completed. Only one entry allowed an exhibitor under each item. 12 Department Vegetables In selecting vegetables for exhibition, choose such specimens that would bring the highest market value. Do not select the largest. Select medium size specimens. If at all possible, do not mix varieties. The following factors are generally used by an expert vegetable judge: 1.Trueness to variety type. 2. Uniformity in shape, size, and color. 3. Protected from dirt, disease, infection, and mechanical damage. 4. Select specimens that are perfect and show no blemishes of any kind. 5.Conditions and maturity. Be sure that exhibits are of high quality. Read premium material carefully following all rules and regulations. If an entry calls for 5 specimens, be sure to exhibit that number; do not enter 4 or 6. Your exhibits will be disqualified if the correct numbers of specimens are not entered. Exhibitors are responsible for identifying their plants or flowers and entering them in the correct class. Plants entered for a single premium may not be included in a display. No artificial flowers accepted. An exhibitor may enter more than one horticultural specimen in a single class provided each entry is of a different variety. Multiple entries of the same cultivar are not permitted. The Fair is not responsible for loss or damage to exhibitor s containers.
