EQUITIES Market Capitalization & Indices Market Capitalization increased from TZS 12, billion as at 30th June 2012 to TZS 12, billion as at 30th September This was a growth of 1.37% compared to the preceding quarter. 2. New Listings 3. Strategic Development Matters 4. Public Education 5. Corporate Actions All Share Index moved by 1.37 % from 1, points as at 30th June 2012 to 1, points as at 30th September Growth in DSE All Share Index was caused by appreciation of the domestic share prices. The appreciated securities during the quarter are: SWISSPORT (32.69%), TCC (20.48%), NMB (7.53%), TBL (7.38%), TWIGA (3.31%) and SIMBA (1.68%). 6. 2 Tanzania Share Index increased by 6.93% from 1,207 points as at the end of June 2012 to 1,292 points as at the end of September This is also linked to appreciation domestic share prices. Turnover Trend During the quarter under review the equity segment showed upward movement as turnover, number of deals and volume of transactions increased by 27.15%, 16.60% and % respectively. The composition of turnover generated during the quarter is as indicated below: Banking & Investment Index increased by 3.2% to points at the end of September, 2012 compared to recorded in the previous quarter. The increase was specifically made by the increase of NMB share price by 7.52%. DCB and CRDB shares fall by 3.12% and 6.00% respectively. TBL, CRDB, NMB, TWIGA, and TATEPA shares were the most traded stocks in the market accounting to 32.90%, 21.32%, 19.51%, 6.07% and 3.10% of the quarterly turnover, respectively. During the quarter under review: TCC, SWISSPORT and TBL ranked first, second and third respectively, in terms of price appreciation. Industrial & Allied Index increased by 7.02% moving from 1, points as at 30th June, 2012 to 1, points as at 30th September, During the quarter TBL, TCC, SIMBA and TWIGA share prices appreciated by 7.38%, 20.48%, 1.68%% and 3.31% respectively. 3 Foreign Investors Participation in Secondary Equity Market During the quarter under review, foreign investors participation in secondary trading depicted an increasing trend. The percentage of turnover contributed by foreign investors stood at 46.83% compared to 14.95% recorded in the previous quarter. BONDS (i) Secondary Trading During the quarter ending September 2012 trading of treasury bonds increased significantly. Government bonds with face value of TZS billion were traded in 53 deals. In the preceding quarter of April to June 2012 Government bonds with face value of TZS billion were traded in 17 deals. This shows an increase of %. Government bonds with nominal value of TZS billion were traded in the last 9 months (from Jan to Sept 2012). The trading result for the month of August is the highest for the period. As shown above during the July Sept 2012 quarter, the yields for longer maturities had higher yield compared to short term bonds. 2. NEW LISTINGS There was no a new IPO during the quarter; however, DCB application for additional listing of shares by way of rights issues and bonus shares was approved. DCB has applied for listing of additional 44.7 million ordinary shares. Regarding bonds market, Treasury bonds with different maturities worth TZS billion were listed during the quarter. Comparatively, this is 151% increase (Treasury bonds worth TZS billion were listed in the quarter ended 31st March 2012). Term Preference on Fixed Income Instruments During the quarter subscription levels for both short term and long term investment opportunities surpass amounts offered by far. This indicates that investor s preference to fixed income securities was high during the period. The overall subscription level stood at 112% compared to 72% achieved during the previous quarter. (ii) Yield Curve on Secondary Bond Market During the quarter of July to September 2012 Yield to Maturity (YTM) for all bonds tenure declined when compared to the preceding quarter of April to June YTM for the 2 year bonds recorded the highest decline of 5.5% while the 10 year bond recorded the lowest decline of 0.13%. Two year bond yield decline from 14.61% to 13.81%, Five year bonds from 14.93% to (2.14% decline), Seven year bonds from 15.45% to % (3.18% decline) and ten year bonds from 15.08% to 15.06%. 3

STRATEGIC DEVELOPMENT MATTERS 3.1 Demutualization Study During the quarter the National Demutualization Committee (NDC) adopted the Consultant s inception report for the demutualization strategy. 3.2 Review DSE s Blue Print During the quarter under review, a Consultant was appointed to review the DSE Rules. The Consultant was expected to start the assignment during second quarter of October to December PUBLIC EDUCATION Saba Saba Exhibitions DSE participated in the Saba Saba Exhibitions at Mwalimu Nyerere International Trade Fair. It is estimated that over three thousand people visited the DSE pavilion during the 11 days exhibitions. Students Visits During the quarter under review DSE hosted a total of 23 visiting students from Babro Johanson Girls Secondary School. DSE also received 3 individual researching students from Institute of Institute Finance Management (2 students) and one student from Institute of Accountancy Arusha (IAA). Planned Public Education Campaign In another development, DSE with support from Financial Sector Deepening Trust (FSDT) will conduct a country wide Public Education Programme to sensitize investors and issuers on the new window for medium sized companies Enterprise Growth Market (EGM). The public education programme is expected to kick off from January CORPORATE ACTIONS Announcements (1) SWISSPORT announced unaudited six months result ending 30th June Board of Swissport reported Profit Before Tax (PBT) of TZS 4.3 billion. In the preceding half year to June 2011 Swissport posted PBT of TZS 3.9 billion (a 10% increase). The Board announced an interim dividend of TZS 2.4 billion or TZS per share which is same to last year interim dividend. (2) Twiga cement announced unaudited six months result ending 30th June The Board of Twiga Cement reported Profit before Tax (PBT) of 45.7 billion. Board announced an interim dividend of TZS 50 per share which is 25% increases compared to preceding year interim dividend of TZS 40 per share. (3) TCC announced unaudited six months result ending 30th June Board reported Profit Before Tax (PBT) of TZS 97.4 billion. In the preceding half year of 2011 TCC posted a PBT of TZS 57.2 billion (a 70% increase). The Board of TCC declared an interim dividend of TZS 300 per share which is same declared in preceding half year of DSE/IFC & NIC Capital Forum DSE jointly with IFC and NIC Capital (Kenyan investment bank) organized a one day forum themed Deepening Capital Market in Tanzania. During the forum 5 different papers on capital markets issues were presented by the organizers. More than 70 participants attended the forum.
