1 ANNUAL REPORT Kansas One-Call is committed to serving its membership and providing excellent notification services for all excavators, promoting damage prevention, and protecting the public welfare.
2 No matter if the project is big or small! Don t make a judgment call! Know what s below... always... Call Before You Dig! 2

4 Message to Members In today s society, technology has provided Kansas One-Call with enormous new opportunities to interact with excavators. Gone are the days when call centers just handled telephone calls. In fact, over the past 10 years, technology has enhanced operations to the point where many Executive Directors are justifiably wondering where the industry is headed. As Kansas One-Call continues to incorporate new technology, programs, and resources to better serve its members, we will continue to plan and manage with one simple, fundamental rule in mind: to get the right people and supporting resources into the right places at the right times. In our business environment and as the economy continues to struggle, those one-call centers with a solid ability to fund and deploy new technologies and resources will be in the best position to improve the services provided to its members and the excavating community. In 2005, Kansas One-Call started a program to update its road and street databases. A process that only a couple of one-call centers in the nation are doing. KOC and OCC staff have diligently been procuring and updating streets, roads, and parcels in every city and county that is available. Currently, Kansas One-Call has obtained digital files for 50 of the 105 counties, many that include land parcels and address data points. The results of this program? Let me draw your attention to a couple of charts in this Annual Report. Look at the ticket in vs. the ticket out ratios on page 7. Then, look at our growth in membership on page 8. With increased membership, the number of tickets sent to members should increase as well. Clearly, this is not the case. There can only be one reason for this reduction in the in vs. out ticket ratios and that is: with better street information, Kansas One-Call is providing it s members with higher quality locate requests. Requests that have a much higher probability of requiring a physical marking of the members underground facilities. Thank you for continuing to support our organization in the many ways that you do. I look forward to serving your needs and to continue to provide value to our members, our excavating community, and in keeping the citizens of Kansas safe. Sincerely yours, Tom Shimon Executive Director 4
5 The Dig Safely campaign has been adopted by Kansas One-Call and there are four important components to the message; 1.) Make the Call 2.) Wait the required amount of time. 3.) Respect the Marks. 4.) Excavate by Digging Safely. Web Page; check it out!! 5
