Dolan Senior Vice President Financial Advisor The Dolan Group understands that whether you represent a foundation, a wealthy family or yourself, asset management can be overwhelming and time consuming. Against that backdrop, we are dedicated to building a satisfying, long-lasting relationship with our clients based on confidence, mutual respect and integrity. James Dolan serves as team leader for the Dolan Group coordinating efforts in developing and executing personalized investment game plans. He has been a member of the group for 20 years having joined the team in Jim had spent the prior four years trading commodity options on the COMEX Exchange. He has approximately 25 years of experience in the financial services industry. In addition to options, his areas of concentration within the group include fixed income, equities, mutual funds, ETFs and annuities with a focus on wealth and retirement planning. Jim is licensed in life insurance and annuities, and is qualified by FINRA as a securities agent and a registered investment advisor representative (Series 7, 63 and 65). Jim graduated cum laude from Boston College in 1990 with a B.S. in finance. Jim s investment philosophy and process begins with establishing a firm understanding of the current financial needs and future goals of the client. Only then can the proper investment plan and asset allocation be developed and implemented. A diversified portfolio can then be constructed utilizing multiple asset classes and investment vehicles. Varying degrees of emphasis are placed on growth and income depending upon the needs of the client. The result is typically a balanced core portfolio with some tactical overlay depending on the prevailing market environment. The portfolio is consistently monitored and reviewed over the client s financial lifetime. Jim believes that, most important, this process keeps a client engaged in this customized investment plan through changing market cycles over time. Jim is a resident of Ridgewood,N.J., where he resides with his wife and two children. In his personal time, Jim enjoys reading, skiing, playing tennis and coaching his daughter and son in their sports interests. Bayard Vice President Financial Advisor With over 34 years in the financial services industry, Pamela Bayard offers a personalized, comprehensive financial plan process that is focused on her clients risk tolerance and their individual current and future goals. Pam prides herself on always being available to assist and help clients understand the various aspects of their holdings so that they may work together to secure and improve their financial picture. Their individual goal becomes Pam s goal, and that instills a commitment each strives to achieve. Pam s career started as an assistant in the short-term money market department, where she collected the current day rates for Prudential Insurance Company. She then moved forward in a newly designed position as a stock options specialist working directly with the portfolio manager. She then furthered her career by taking on the role as an assistant equity trader at Avatar Associates in New York City. Pamela is one of the founding members of the Dolan Group and joined the team over 28 years ago with a passion and desire to help others achieve financial stability in an ever-changing world. Pam s long and successful time in the financial services business has led to a concentration in the wealth accumulation, retirement planning, life insurance and income distribution areas. Pam is also well-versed in stock option strategies and all facets of the fixed-income world, especially municipal and corporate bonds. Pam is licensed in life insurance and annuities, and is qualified by FINRA as a securities agent and a registered investment advisor representative (Series 7, 63 and 65). Pam is married and has two teenage children. Both she and her husband are very active in their children s sporting activities and cherish those moments spent supporting and watching their children compete. Pam is also actively involved in the community and is a volunteer for many of the fund raisers and community projects in her area of New Jersey. 10 Daniel J. Dolan, CRPC Financial Planning Specialist Financial Advisor Daniel Dolan joined the Dolan Group in 1999 upon completion of his bachelor s degree from Syracuse University in upstate New York. This cum laude graduate assumes various roles in the Dolan Group, but his primary focus is in the financial planning area. As the team s planning specialist, Dan helps guide clientele through the many phases of their financial lives (accumulation, preservation and distribution). Dan helps these clients bring all their assets together into one meaningful report that then becomes the basis for making wellinformed and realistic financial decisions moving forward. While other members of the Dolan Group focus more on the day-to-day investing of clients investment assets, Dan focuses more on the holistic approach, which takes into account the entire financial picture, and positions clients to accomplish their current and future goals, needs, wants and wishes. In addition to his role as the Financial Planning Specialist, Dan also assumes the role of Financial Advisor and helps guide the team s clientele to the most appropriate investments based on their individual risk tolerance. Dan also takes on a key role with regard to implementing comprehensive retirement distribution plans for clients who are in or entering that phase of their financial life. Dan s distribution plans bring together all of the client s retirement assets and sources of income (e.g., Social Security, IRAs, taxable accounts, annuities, etc.) into a succinct plan that acts as a retirement roadmap to which the client can refer and use, to help meet specific retirement needs. The order in which assets are drawn upon during retirement is of extreme importance, so one of Dan s top priorities is to help guide clients through this sometimes complicated process. Dan s investment and financial philosophy begins with a firm understanding of the clients, their assets and what they hope to achieve with their money. Using this type of philosophy assures that all decisions are made in a personalized and meaningful way. Dan is married and resides in the Murray Hill section of New York City. Dan and his wife s personal interests mainly focus on taking in all that New York City has to offer, especially museums, plays, concerts and various cultural dining establishments. 11 Gwendolyn D. Rock Senior Client Service Associate Ruth L. Cuba Client Service Associate Gwendolyn Rock is a Senior Client Service Associate and the primary point of contact for all operational needs of the Dolan Group s clientele. With over 30 years in the financial services industry, 10 with the Dolan Group, she has attained an extensive level of knowledge across many fields including account opening / maintenance, proper wealth transfer procedures, estate analysis, titling and inherited IRA transfers. Gwen also has extensive experience in managing the probate process and the settling of estates. Her gentle guidance through this often stressful and complicated process helps to ensure a smooth transition of the financial assets to the next generation. Gwen is also the primary point of contact in dealing with clients attorneys, accountants and the beneficiaries of IRAs, annuities and life insurance. Gwen is a resident of the Bronx and enjoys cooking, shopping, traveling and spending time with her family. gwendolyn.rock@morganstanley.com Ruth Cuba joined the Dolan Group in January 2007 and has become vital in providing a high level of service to all Dolan Group clients. She plays an important role in the client service and marketing strategies for the Dolan Group. Ruth is a key point of contact for all client service-related issues including account opening, portfolio loan accounts, IRA distributions, annuities and insurance processing, and managed account opening. Ruth also assists our clients with day-to-day requests. Prior to joining the Dolan Group, Ruth had over 20 years of experience as an administrative assistant. She attended Hunter College and is an alumni of Cathedral High School in New York City. Ruth values spending quality time with her family and enjoys attending her son s track meets and football games. In her spare time, she enjoys traveling, photography, gardening, cooking and entertaining, shopping and reading. She is part of the Parent Advisory Committee at her son s prestigious all-boys high school in the Bronx and is an active member of her church in Harlem. Clients: Jeff Clark (Age 38) and Ashley Clark (Age 37) Jeff is a teacher at the local middle school and Ashley owns and runs a small local seafood restaurant. Children: Timothy Clark (age 9) and Kayla Clark (age 6) Client needs: Conservatively grow their investment assets over time. Open education savings plans for Timothy and Kayla. open a retirement plan for Ashley s business. Total Investable net Worth: $2,000,000 Need Strategy Solution 1 Conservatively grow their investment assets over time. Construct and implement a highly diversified portfolio of growth assets. The Dolan Group constructed a portfolio consisting of highly diversified, noncorrelated, growth investments including individual stocks, mutual funds and exchangetraded funds. This solution also included a 5% allocation to cash in order to meet any of the Clark s immediate needs. 2 Open education savings plans for Timothy and Kayla. Open 529 plan accounts for each child. The Dolan Group opened 529 accounts for both Timothy and Kayla. The 529 structure makes the most sense for the Clarks because the investments grow tax deferred and are distributed tax free if used for higher education purposes. The 529 plan also allows Jeff and Ashley to remain in control of the assets as the account owners. 3 Fund a retirement plan for Ashley that allows her to make significant contributions and provides incentive for her full-time employees to remain in her employment for many years to come. Open a Simplified Employee Pension account (SEP IRA). Ashley has four full-time employees who have been with her for over five years. The Dolan Group recommended the SEP IRA because it allows her to make deductible contributions to the lesser of $52,000 or 25% of her compensation. She can also create and fund SEP IRAs for her four employees as a means to encourage them to remain a part of her business. * In order for employees to participate in a SEP IRA plan they must be 21 or over, earned at least $550 during the current year and have performed services for the employer in at least three of the five immediately preceding calendar years. *The case study presented is for illustrative purposes only. Clients: William Conway (age 76) and Sandra Conway (age 72) Children: Andrew Conway (age 50), Tom Conway (age 44) Client needs: The Conways need $500,000 of after-tax income annually. A plan to generate enough income to maintain their current lifestyle. Grow the nonessential assets that will eventually pass to the children. Minimize their potentially large estate tax bill. Total Investable net Worth: $25,000,000 Need Strategy Solution 1 Generate enough aftertax investment income to maintain William and Sandra s current lifestyle. Construct a highly rated, laddered municipal bond portfolio. The Dolan Group implemented a portfolio consisting of highly rated municipal bonds laddered over a number of successive intermediate maturities. By investing approximately 10,000,000 at an average annual interest rate of 5%, the Dolan Group was able to satisfy the Conway s $500,000 annual, after tax need. 2 Grow the nonessential assets that will eventually pass to the children. These nonessential assets total approximately $4,000,000. Construct and implement a highly diversified portfolio of growth assets. The Dolan Group constructed and implemented a highly diversified portfolio of individual equities, moderate balanced funds, tactical investment mandates providing down-market protection as well as taxdeferred growth vehicles. This solution spanned U.S. & International markets and also ranged across various sectors and market cap styles. 3 Minimize their potentially large estate tax bill. Create and fund an irrevocable trust for both William and Sandra. William & Sandra s attorney drafted two separate trusts (one for William & one for Sandra). The trusts were created and irrevocably funded with nonessential investment assets equaling the current maximum allowable estate tax exclusion ($5,340,000 per trust). The $10,680,000 principal and all potential appreciation within these trusts cannot be accessed by either William or Sandra (irrevocable gift). The trusts assets will, therefore, no longer be considered part of the Conways eventual estate. * $10,680,000 at a compound rate of return of 5% over 10 years grows to $17,396,594 ** In this scenario the avoidance of a 40% estate tax rate on $6,716,000 of growth would equate to a potential Estate tax savings of $2,686,400 in 10 years time. *The case study presented is for illustrative purposes only.
