2 BRETT M. DAVENPORT Brett Davenport is the President and Chief Executive Officer of BMD Leadership Institute, Inc. He is a motivational speaker and a leading authority on Personal Sustainability, Goal Attainment and Leadership. He is the author of the book Coaching Your Way to Success, 50 tips for achieving success in all areas of your life. His primary role is that of an Executive Coach where he works with leaders to strategically improve the bottom line, motivate and inspire others, and set goals both personally and professionally. He is also the Founder of Empire Financial Network, Inc. Empire Financial Network is a New York Based Company focused on recruiting, wholesaling fixed annuities, life and long term care insurance, consulting successful individuals, corporations and businesses through their network of strategic alliances. Mr. Davenport has been in the financial services industry for twenty-four years. He is known for his exceptional work and business relationships in the New York financial community, including his affiliation with key financial associations such as MDRT, GAMA, NAIFA and the Syracuse Association of Insurance & Financial Advisors. Prior to founding Empire Financial Network and BMD Leadership Institute, Mr. Davenport held the position of Senior Vice President Sales New York at Roster Financial where he was responsible for driving sales and integrating Roster s value proposition within the New York community through their brokers. His years of experience and leadership have helped to lay the foundation for Roster s success in the New York market for years to come. Before joining Roster Financial, Mr. Davenport was responsible for building and developing Bankers Conseco Life Insurance Companies New York expansion from the ground up. In-addition, he held management positions of increasing responsibility with Prudential Financial for seventeen years. In the past, he has qualified for the prestigious MDRT, has led many organizations to the #1 spot and currently holds the designations of LUTCF, CLF and CLTC. Brett and his wife Joanne have owned and operated a Quiznos Restaurant since He grew up in the small upstate NY town of Bainbridge, to which he credits his values and passion for people. He has a Master of Science in Management from The American College in Bryn Mawr, PA. He is a Dale Carnegie graduate, coaches High School Varsity Ice Hockey, and has been married to his wife, Joanne, for twenty years. Together, they have two wonderful boys, Connor and Harrison.

The NAIFA Syracuse Board works hard to bring extra value to your membership, and the quality of our 2012 meetings will be a testament their effort. We have a full schedule in 2012 filled with great speakers and CE Classes, and I m hopeful that you will all be able to join us. By now you should have received your updated membership directory, please take a moment to update your calendars with the meeting dates for By this time I m sure most of you have formulated a plan for 2012, as part of your member benefits, NAIFA conducts several webinars for you each month. In December they had one on how to write a complete business plan on one page using key words and phrases. You can access all webinars at NAIFA.ORG, what a great way to start out the New Year! NAIFA s main mission is to protect the business interests of insurance professionals and the commensurate financial security interests of their clients. We must continue to grow and strengthen our advocacy efforts in ways best designed to promote, protect and defend the role of professional producers and the significant benefits that they provide to their clients. The field distribution system remains under siege, and we must continue to grow and strengthen our advocacy efforts in ways best designed to promote, protect and defend the role of professional producers, and the significant benefits that they provide to their clients through the delivery of valuable products, service, guidance and advice. We do that by committing all of our resources (people, time & money) toward the ongoing and constant advocacy process (with legislators, regulators, consumer groups, media groups, peer trade groups and with the carriers). Our relevance as a professional trade advocacy organization is measured by the size of our membership, the number of active political contacts that we have (with legislators), and our ability to raise money for our Political Action Committee PAC (so that we can continue to have access to legislators). Our duty as a professional producer is to support the mission of our advocacy organization by paying our dues, becoming a contact for our local legislators, contributing to our PAC, and by promoting our association to others who are making a living in this noble profession but who fail to associate or contribute their fair and equitable share (in the form of their membership dollars). Please take a moment, if you haven t already, to renew your membership or to get one or more of your associates to join. Visit the NAIFA NYS website at to view our legislative agenda for the year, see the membership literature that reinforces why you should be a member, and to find additional information about how to become a contact for your legislator and how to make a contribution to our PAC. Membership is our key to remaining relevant our members are our only and best allies there is strength in numbers, and with the strong support of our core constituents, we can and must continue to make a difference.

12 IMPORTANT INFORMATION ON CONTINUING EDUCATION We would like to remind you that license renewal for Life and Health agents in New York State requires fifteen (15) hours of Continuing Education. Renewal is based on your date of birth biennially (every two years). If your year of birth is EVEN, your license must be renewed before your birthday in If your year of birth is ODD, your license must be renewed before your birthday in NAIFA-Syracuse adds value to your membership by offering regularly scheduled CE courses usually before or after our monthly meetings. * * * NAIFA-Syracuse 100% Agency Membership In order for agencies to qualify for this NAIFA-Syracuse Award, all agents in the agency, contracted prior to September 1, 2011, must be PAID members of NAIFA prior to March 1, A special presentation and recognition of this award will be held at the May 17, 2012 breakfast meeting. * * * VISIT OUR WEBSITE AT New Year!
