2 Dear Parents/Guardians ACTIVITIES WEEK FOR YEAR 9 Each school year we organise a special timetable for one week for Years 7, 8 and 9 in order to allow many trips and activities to take place. This year it will happen in the week commencing 3 July All students are expected to participate either through Go Gordano activities or on one of the residential experiences as detailed in this booklet. There are 4 residential experiences available for Year 9. This booklet also gives an idea of the planned way Activities Week runs for those students who wish to stay at school for the week (further details for all these choices will follow in March 2017). The residential experiences on offer, including costs, are subject to alteration and additions depending on the interest and uptake. This booklet is for you to select the residential experience your son/daughter would be interested in participating in. Bursary funding is available for these visits, for students who are currently registered to receive Free School Meals, or have been in the past six years. The legal aspects are quite complex but in general the board and lodging element is not eligible for help from school resources. Please respond on the reply slip at the back of this booklet indicating the choice of residential trip for your child and hand into Student Reception by Friday 7 October at 12.50pm. The trips require a deposit to be paid via Parentpay ( to commit to the trip and be requested when your child s place has been confirmed. This will be non-refundable and must be paid by Sunday 16 October. Please also refer to the cancellation terms for further information. Please be aware that trips often run on minimum numbers which means that if your child changes their mind, this can effect the trip for the rest of the group. You will be required to pay for the trip by monthly instalments and the balance must be paid in full must be received by 31 March Space is obviously limited in this booklet and descriptions of activities are therefore brief. 3 There are 4 out of school residential options for Year 9 students: Pembrokeshire, Wales Mon - Fri 5 days Stay at Celtic Camping, Pembrokeshire in a comfy bunkhouse, eat home cooked food and take part in adventurous activities. The group will be taken out of the confines of a classroom and immersed into the natural world, as they test their skills in one of the most dynamic environments on the planet by participating in a series of adventure water sports such as surfing, coasteering, sea kayaking, surfing etc. To break up the busy week, a visit to Oakwood Theme park is planned on Wednesday. The price includes travel by minibus, all food (apart from packed lunch on first day) and accommodation, including bedding so all you need is your kit along with some money for tuck and souvenirs. Cost: approx. 375 Spaces Available: Deposit: 80 Monthly Instalments: 59 Barcelona, Spain Mon Sat 5 nights Back to Northern Spain we go after another successful trip in July We will be flying to Barcelona and staying in quiet Spanish town called Vilanova I La Geltru which is south of the city. The accommodation is Vilanova Holiday park; consisting of 5-star self contained chalets (bungalows) which have showers, separate toilets, fridges & microwaves. The park has great facilities such as a restaurant, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, basketball court and 5-a-side football area plus more. All meals including packed lunches will be provided. The price also includes a visit to a football stadium and a day at a fabulous water park. We will also be visiting Parc Guell and of course experiencing the attractions within the city of Barcelona itself. Transport to and from a UK Airport is also being provided. 4 Sorrento, Italy Proposing Mon Sat: 5 Nights We are delighted to once again offer our students the once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to visit the beautiful city of Sorrento on the coast of Southern Italy. We will fly direct to Naples in the heart of sunny southern Italy. We will visit the stunningly preserved ancient city of Pompeii and climb the legendary Mount Vesuvius. Other highlights include taking a boat for a day trip along the world famous Amalfi coast, pizza and ice-cream making plus plenty of opportunity to shop in the pretty coastal town of Sorrento. We will stay at the Cavour Hotel which is situated between the sea and centre of Sorrento, with amazing views of Mount Vesuvius. If you want sun, and sea along with the opportunity to experience cultural, historical and gastronomical delights of Southern Italy then this is the trip for you! Cost: 738 *depending on low cost flight prices Spaces available: 40 Deposits: Monthly Instalments: approx. 88 Ardeche South of France Sun Mon: 9 days Once more we are offering students the opportunity to spend their week on the water in a PGL two centre, multi activity trip in the south of France. For 2017, we return to the Mediterranean Coast and the Ardeche River. This trip is specifically geared to those wishing for an action packed week centred around water sports. The trip begins with a breathtaking three day descent of the mighty Ardeche River where each day you return to the Segries centre, set in wooded grounds before setting out on the next leg of your journey. The second part of the week is based down to the coast at Mimosa, an exclusive PGL centre set back from the shore and opening out onto a long, uncrowded beach on the Langedoc coast. Activities at this centre often include windsurfing, banana boats, kayaking, climbing/abseiling, catamaraning, sailing on laser boats and picos. In between centres we spend a day at the local Aqualand water park. The trip includes all transport, accommodation, meals, insurance and activities. All activities are accompanied by fully qualified instructors. The group will be travelling using a Collective Passport via coach and ferry so no passport required but must have a current European Heath Insurance Card (EHIC). 5 Go Gordano for Activities Week If you would prefer to stay based at school for Activities Week then there will be a wide range of activities on offer. 6 Terms and Conditions Parent Copy Payment 1. A deposit must be received on Parentpay (online payment & communication system) by Sunday 16 October after you have received confirmation of your child s place. As this deposit is passed onto the Tour Operator it is non refundable. 2. You will be required to use ParentPay to make payments and to help spread the cost of the trip, an approximate schedule is set out below. Costs listed below are subject to alteration and addition depending on the uptake and those trips using airlines; final cost of a low cost air flight. Figures have been supplied to enable you to work out affordability. Est. If monthly interim payments are not met, this does not constitute in a request to withdrawal your child s place from the trip. You must notify the school in writing at the earliest opportunity if you have any problems making these payments or you wish to pay the full balance on a certain date. 5. These monthly amounts have been set to ensure that 50% of the balance is received by 31st January We expect the trip to be paid in full by 31 March 2017, to ensure we can fulfil our contractual payments to the tour operators. Cancellation 1. Cancellation must be received by the school in writing. 2. Cancellation costs are set out below: Before 31 March Loss of deposit(s) Between 1 April Date of departure % of total cost, except in exceptional circumstances 3. Deposits cannot be transferred from one trip to another trip should your son/daughter change their mind. Medical & Emergency Contact Information 1. Your child will not be allowed to participate in any out of school activity without a signed Essential Medical Information (EMI). This form is collected once in their school lifetime and the information is checked with you on an annual basis using the Data Checking Sheet. 2. It is your responsibility to keep the school informed when there are any changes in medical conditions, allergies or dietary requirements. 3. Medical, emergency contact and dietary requirements are taken from the school database (SIMS) and passed to the trip leader prior to the trip. Only details of medication will be requested from you in the month prior to the trip taking place. Insurance 1. All trips are fully insured either by the tour operator or the school journey insurance. If your cancellation falls within the terms of the policy, the insurance can cover these charges. 2. A copy of the insurance policy will be available of the school website and a copy will be ed to you. You are required to notify the insurer if your child has any pre-existing medical conditions as they may not be covered. 3. Electronic items such as camera, ipods, mobile phones, small games consoles are not covered by the school insurance. These are taken at the owners risk. Miscellaneous 1. The school reserves the right to exclude from any trip/ activity a student whose behaviour has given concern at any stage during the year. 2. Receipt of this booklet is not an indicator of your son s/daughter s eligibility to participate. The final decision to allow any student to take part in an activity rests with the Head of House and Deputy Head. 3. In the event of a trip being oversubscribed, places will be allocated using a ballot system (not first come, first served).

After successful allocation of a place, you will receive an requesting deposit to be paid via Parentpay.
