While Finaccord has developed a global series of reports about markets for travel insurance and assistance as a whole that cover over 40 countries worldwide, this is the first-ever publication focused specifically on business and corporate travel cover. This is in spite of the fact that such cover accounts for a significant proportion of the worldwide market for stand-alone travel insurance and assistance and that premiums for it are forecast to rise at a nominal compound annual rate of 6% between 2016 and Finaccord Ltd., 2017 Web: info@finaccord.com 5

6 What methodology has been used? The data in this report is brought together from numerous individual sources. These include a variety of country-specific sources for each of the 12 major countries in scope (e.g. the Bundesanstalt für Finanzdienstleistungsaufsicht (BaFin), the Deutsche ReiserVerband (DRV), Statistisches Bundesamt and the Verband Deutsches Reisemanagement (VDR) in the case of Germany) as well as the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO). In addition, Finaccord carried out a primary survey of leading brokers of business and corporate travel insurance and assistance in each country with the following objectives: to validate its estimates for the overall value of the market plus its historic and likely future growth; to gather feedback concerning its segmentation between individual and group business, and between cover sold specifically for trips to high-risk destinations and that for all other destinations; and to identify the leading underwriters of group cover sold to larger businesses and corporate enterprises. The market shares of underwriters for all types of business and corporate travel cover combined were then estimated by blending the broker survey results with Finaccord s existing knowledge and data concerning underwriters presence in the wider market for travel cover bought on an individual basis. Key findings from the executive summary include: worldwide, around million international trips were made for business purposes in 2016 with this number having grown at a compound annual rate of 1.3% since 2012 given an equivalent figure of million trips in that year; European countries accounted for around 37.1% of business and corporate travel policies sold in 2016, just ahead of the Asia-Pacific region at 35.0%, although the country generating the highest number of policies in the same year was the US, slightly in front of Germany; at a global level, premiums for business and corporate travel insurance and assistance advanced at a (nominal) compound annual rate of 4.9% between 2012 and 2016 with North America accounting for the highest proportion of the worldwide market value and with 43.8% of it attributable to group (as opposed to individual) business; between 2016 and 2020, the global volume of business and corporate travel policies is forecast to increase at a compound annual rate of 3.9% while the worldwide market value is predicted to move up at an equivalent (nominal) rate of 6.0%.
