T h e n e e d f o r i m p r o v e m e n t s : San Pedro Elementary School has been a neighbor in the community since Over 60 years! It is a wonderful school site, nestled into the hill. Unfortunately, it has many needs. The main building is obsolete and many classrooms in portables need a permanent home.
T h e n e e d f o r i m p r o v e m e n t s : All of the Kindergarten classrooms are 30% smaller than the minimums set by the California Department of Education. Also, none have individual restrooms for these youngest children, also required by the Education Code.
T h e n e e d f o r i m p r o v e m e n t s : The Main administration office is tiny and cramped. This is the main waiting area for visitors, students, and parents. It is also for anyone waiting to see the Principal. It is too small to serve the needs of the school.
T h e n e e d f o r i m p r o v e m e n t s : There are too few staff restrooms. One is so small it is hard to fit inside to take a picture!
T h e n e e d f o r i m p r o v e m e n t s : The infrastructure needed to serve 21 st Century learning is far beyond its useful life.
T h e n e e d f o r i m p r o v e m e n t s : Ten portables are used to house classrooms and school programs. These decade-old temporary buildings have reached the end of their serviceable lives. They reduce the space needed for the playground. And they re an eyesore!
T h e D i s t r i c t B o n d P r o g r a m : To address the needs of San Pedro and other schools, several steps have been taken: Facility assessments and master planning were completed at the end of 2014 San Rafael voters generously approved Bond Measures A & B in November, 2015 Design for San Pedro Elementary School started at the beginning of 2017
T h e p r o j e c t a h e a d : Bond funds at San Pedro will do the following: Replace the main classroom / administration building and portables with one new building Provide a temporary home for offices and classrooms while the new building is built Restore the fields and playgrounds.
T h e p r o j e c t a h e a d : So here are the specifics
