Calendar of Events IDAHO S FIRST CREDIT UNION SERVING MEMBERS SINCE 1935 President s Message For many, the fall usually seems like a calming period of time. The fall colors, changing temperatures, kids starting school, vacation season coming to an end, and everyone starting to settle in for the winter. Then listening to the national news, you could get the impression that nothing gets settled. Well, let s consider some of economic reports to get some fairly creditable information. In economic news, U.S. spending at the end of summer was at its slowest pace in six months, but that was the expectation, with it settling in at 0.3%. The slow pace could indicate that consumers are not as eager to spend their excess income even though the majority of us all have jobs. Unemployment rates are the lowest we have seen in years. There seems to be concerns that trade wars will increase consumer prices, but that could change in the coming months due to the U.S. Mexico/Canada trade agreement that is coming together. The Feds have penciled in their expectations for further rate hikes over the next twelve months, and they held to their plans by increasing the Fed Rate by 0.25% at their last meeting. On a local level, Rails West Federal Credit Union is financially sound and well capitalized. We have constantly monitored the economic reports as to how they affect us directly and indirectly, to assure our members of the best service and rates possible. Through this year we have seen a steady increase in our Certificate Rates for those of you who seeking to save more, and for those that are in need of loan assistance, we are always striving to offer the lowest loan rate among our competitors. Our goal continues to be Idaho s first credit union, Idaho s best credit union. In closing, thank you for being a part of our loyal credit union family of members. We appreciate you all. With the holiday season rapidly approaching, Rails West FCU would like to offer you a chance to postpone your loan payment during the months of November or December. We realize that the holiday season can be stressful, trying to juggle the demands of Christmas and your budget. By skipping your loan payment this holiday season, you can use the extra cash to help you through the holiday season. For a small $30 fee per loan, our skip-a-payment program allows you to defer your November or December loan payment(s) until the end of your loan. The interest on your loan will continue to accrue and all other terms of your loan with Rails West FCU will remain unchanged. Remember to look for your deferral coupon in the mail, or stop by in the month of November or December to get more information from one of your friendly Rails West FCU lending staff. All skip payment requests are subject to review and approval by the credit union to determine eligibility. Mortgage loans, Home Equity Loans, Promotional loans, Line of Credit loans including credit cards are not eligible for a skip payment. Skip payments may be used only once in a 6 month period for each eligible loan. Accounts that participate in our Skip Payment Program will not be charged a Late Charge for the payment skipped. However, Finance Charges will continue to accrue on your Account at the rate set forth in the Agreement with us. For all Accounts, your minimum payments will return to their regularly scheduled amounts and due dates as specified in such Agreement immediately following the skip payment period. International Credit Union Day On October 18, 2018 the credit union movement will celebrate International Credit Union Day. The internationally recognized day, celebrates what credit unions are and what they have meant to members all over the world. Find Your Platinum Lining, this year s International Credit Union Day theme, celebrates the last 70 years in which credit unions have changed lives and communities. Join us for some light refreshments at both branches on October 18 th. The Board consists of seven members which are elected by the credit union membership to serve a three year term. You must be at least 18 years old and a primary account holder at Rails West to be considered for the Board of Directors. As a volunteer you will have opportunities to work hand in hand with the credit union to help ensure Rails West members receive the best products and services the credit union can offer. The Board of Directors is responsible for setting the goals and direction of the credit union. The Board of Directors is required to meet monthly, attend an annual planning session, and attend occasional training.
