10 Charter Oak Cares for Its Communities Charter Oak s success isn t something that we take for granted. Through our successes over the years as a community-based credit union, we ve been able to give back to those very communities that have made us the largest credit union in eastern Connecticut, and the third largest in the state of Connecticut. In 2015, we once again strengthened our financial commitment to our Community Giving programs, highlighted by the fact that we increased our Scholarship Program by more than six times, to 80,000. Charter Oak was proud to offer one 2,000 scholarship to each high school in New London and Windham counties with an enrollment of 100 or more students. This significant increase in our scholarship commitment helped to ease the financial burden of college for 40 students across New London and Windham counties and we couldn t be prouder of this achievement. We believe strongly in education, and our Scholarship Program now plays a significant role in furthering the college dreams of students across eastern Connecticut. In 2016, we ve increased our pledge to ensure we award over 80,000 in scholarships to help students pursue their dreams of a college education. Charter Oak s commitment to our communities is part of the fabric of who we are as a credit union it s reflected every day in the many volunteer efforts and financial contributions made by our generous employees and that commitment remains unwavering as we continue to serve those in need in the coming year.
