Whether you re looking to backpack around Europe, explore the world s least inhabited corners or just get some sun for a few weeks, we can help you organise your finances, spread the cost of your travels, and stay in control of your money - no matter where in the world you are. 4 Giving you the freedom to explore. The AIB Student Plus Account a bank account specially designed for you. We know that your student years are about getting out there and expanding your horizons! That s why the AIB Student Plus Account is designed to save you money, and help you stay in control of your finances at home and abroad. Your AIB Student Plus Account offers you: Banking free of account maintenance and transaction fees* Other charges may apply. You ll find full details of our fees and charges in our booklet A Guide to Fees and Charges for Personal Accounts. This booklet is available from any AIB branch or aib.ie. An AIB Debit Card* which can be used at home and abroad Debit cards are liable to an annual Government Stamp Duty charge which is applied in January of each year. Currently 2.50 per card applies where the card is used for either an ATM/in branch transaction or a Point of Sale transaction, and 5 per card applies where the card is used for both. *Terms and Conditions apply. Student Interest Free Overdraft^ Giving you peace of mind that additional funds are easily accessible if and when you need them. First and second year students can apply for an overdraft of up to 1,000 interest free, and third and fourth year students can apply for an overdraft of up to 1,500 interest free. Authorised overdraft facilities above 1,500 will be charged at the Bank s Standard Variable A rate for Personal Overdrafts. The Standard Overdraft Facility Fee of will also be waived for the period that you hold an AIB Student Plus Account. Credit Facilities over 600 may require a parent/ guardian guarantee. Student Personal Loan^ Student Plus Account holders can apply for a Personal Loan from AIB, and avail of a special discounted rate of 1.5% off the Bank s Standard Variable A Personal Loan Rate up to a maximum of 50,000. This discount will apply for the agreed life of the loan or until the loan is amended or topped up by way of a new credit agreement. The maximum term of the loan is five years. 5 AIB Student MasterCard^ As an AIB Student Plus Account holder, you can apply for an AIB Student Mastercard (applicants need to have held a bank account for 6 months). This credit card** is designed specially to meet the lifestyle of a full time third level student. It s a convenient way to shop online and pay for day-to-day expenses, and allows you to make repayments on a schedule that fits your budget. A credit card is also one of the safest ways to pay for goods, services and travel expenses abroad, giving you protection in emergencies. And it s discreet so you don t have to carry large amounts of cash. ** Government Stamp Duty of 30 is charged annually per credit card account. ^ Lending criteria, and terms and conditions apply. With your AIB Student Plus Account you get lots of extra benefits to help you get the most out of your travels: No commission on foreign currency notes You can buy or sell foreign currency notes at any AIB branch without paying any commission*. Make sure you identify yourself as an AIB Student Plus Account holder when you are at the Foreign Exchange desk. *Does not apply to any transaction undertaken at an ATM, AIB Self Service banking or through any other electronic means. AIB Travel Insurance Our travel insurance is designed to make sure you can enjoy your summer without worrying about the little things. Check out our Backpacker Insurance, which covers backpacking, gap years, gap placements and work or study abroad. 8 Travel safely. Top tips to keep you safe while you travel. Don t forget to bring some cash for immediate expenses e.g. taxis, public transport, tips, food. Make sure to order your foreign currency notes at least 10 days in advance from your local AIB branch. Bring a range of payment methods (credit card, debit card and cash) and don t keep them all in one place! Order and pack your AIB Card Reader in case you need to make new international transfers or set up standing orders while you re away. Check the expiry dates on your cards and your passport! Always shield your PIN when you are using an ATM or Point of Sale terminal. When paying for goods and services keep your card in view. Make sure that you have some travel insurance in place. If your trip is interrupted or your luggage is lost, you ll be glad you bought it. Make a copy of your travel itinerary; leave a copy with a family member or someone who you will be in constant contact with. Check if you need a Visa for the country you are visiting. Make sure you have access to sufficient money to cover expenses and access to emergency funds. If you are a registered AIB Phone & Internet Banking customer, you should download the AIB Mobile Banking app to your smartphone before you go as well as allowing you to transfer funds and check your balance, it has a Foreign Exchange Calculator and any AIB phone numbers you may need while you re away.
