4 Sustainability and environmental issues were hardly discussed in the 1930 s when the young forester Flemming Juncker was looking for ways to use and preserve one of our most valuable assets; the forests. When he established the company under his own name he put his ideas into practice and we are still benefiting from this today. JUNCKERS IS A CO 2 POSITIVE COMPANY As wood is considered to be a CO 2 neutral material, and because Junckers generates more energy than the business itself can consume, the surplus energy contained in the waste wood is used to produce CO 2 Neutral electricity, making Junckers a carbon positive company. We hold a Chain of Custody PEFC and FSC certificate. A Chain of Custody certificate enables tracking of the wood from the finished floor back to the forest. PEFC and FSC are organisations that work globally to ensure legal and well managed foresting to protect nature, wildlife, and people. JUNCKERS UTILISES 100% OF THE FORESTED TIMBER Junckers is an energy-intensive industry using substantial volumes of energy for the drying and processing of wood. However residual wood (sawdust, wood chips, saw-cut log ends and other residual wood from the production) is supplied to a wood-fired power plant, which in return supplies electricity to Junckers and the Danish national electricity grid. 5 HEALTHY AND DURABLE FLOORING A declaration of performance forms the basis for the CE marking, which accurately shows how specific legal requirements are met. For example, this is applicable to fire resistance, degassing, strength, friction, etc. BRE GLOBAL GREEN GUIDE Junckers 22 mm solid hardwood flooring boards correspond to the BRE Global Green Guide online generic specification for hard floor finishes, Element number , which achieves a summary rating of A+ within commercial buildings. PRODUCT QUALITY Junckers product quality management system forms the basis of the company s CE marking scheme, according to EN 14342: A1: 2008, EN 14904: 2006 and EU Guidance Paper B and D for CE marking. The quality system complies with the ISO 9000 series, but is not monitored by a third party. The system includes employees, production, administrative processes and resources essential to meet the company s quality goals. CE DECLARATION OF PERFORMANCE Junckers floors are CE marked, which means that the floors must comply with certain EU standards in relation to safety, the environment and health. ISO ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT Junckers is certified according to ISO Additionally, the environmental management system comprises areas such as working environment (OHSAS 18001), as well as energy safety in connection with electrical work (SKS). SUSTAINABLE CONSTRUCTION LEED, BREEAM AND DGNB Junckers has identified ways in which we can contribute to three leading voluntary schemes for sustainable building. 9 UNDER FLOOR HEATING DESIGN FREEDOM WITHOUT PIPES AND RADIATORS Underfloor heating is an economical, luxurious and very elegant solution without visible pipes and radiators. It works to perfection under Junckers floors because, unlike tiles and stone, solid wood is naturally warm and pleasant, whether or not the heating is on. The result is not only a treat under bare feet, but also has a comfortable, even room temperature. Hot water underfloor heating is generally suited for residential and commercial buildings, while electrical systems are ideal for smaller renovations. The unique Junckers Clip System enables the Junckers floor to be floated over most modern underfloor heating systems, where there is a screed subfloor. Alternatively, the underfloor heating system can be placed between battens or joists with the Junckers boards nailed over the top. 9

11 3 WAYS OF INSTALLATION A solid wooden floor from Junckers can be installed in three different ways and naturally, all methods work together with underfloor heating systems. CLIP SYSTEM Installing a floor using Junckers clip system is quick and flexible. The finished wooden floor is no more than 1mm to 2mm higher than the floorboards themselves. Our clips are easy to click into place into a special groove on the underside of the board, thereby keeping the individual floorboards together. Junckers clip system is laid 'floating' on a flat, dry screed or timber base and is ideal for both residential and commercial floors. All Junckers wooden floors can be laid using the clip system. GLUE DOWN SYSTEM All Junckers floors can be bonded to a dry, flat subfloor such as screed or a timber deck. A glued-down wooden floor enhances the feel and sound of solid wood. It is a good solution for large, open areas, where footsteps and drumming noise need to be minimised. BATTEN SYSTEM Level 78+ is a batten and wedge levelling system which also has the option to include acoustic insulation. It is typically used for uneven subfloors. This system has been developed as a response to the growing legislative requirements for sound insulation in multi-storey buildings. With Level 78+ and Junckers Step Sound Reduction Pad, reduction of step sound transmission between the floors of db can be achieved, depending on batten height. The Step Sound Reduction Pad is mounted underneath the wedges, which are then easily clicked onto the battens; levelling to the desired height and flatness is done without the use of nails or tools. Elevations from 74mm to 224mm can be achieved. Our highly durable and secure glue down system includes, as an option a Junckers Liquid Moisture Barrier, which is used to protect against higher than normal residual moisture in the subfloor. The wooden floor is then glued down with Junckers Parquet Adhesive. Junckers glue down system is suitable for both residential and commercial floors. 11
