Ms. Lopez-Acevedo has coordinated large analytical programs and lending in Latin America including the Programmatic Poverty Program for Mexico ( ), the Technical Assistance Loan on Strengthening Monitoring and Evaluation in Colombia ( She contributed to the evaluation program in Bolivia ( ). She led the IDF to improve the Monitoring and Evaluation System in the Ministry of Social Development in Mexico ( ). Gladys is leading two regional studies including Determinant of Regional Welfare Disparities in Latin America Countries with Emmanuel Skoufias (2009) and Impact Evaluation of SME programs in Latin America (2009). Ms. Lopez-Acevedo has authored and co-authored academic and policy papers including "Mexico: Poverty Assessment (with Michael Walton); Impact Evaluation of SME programs (with Hong Tan); Poverty in Latin America: Trends and Determinants (with Quentin Wodon) ; In-Firm Training for the Knowledge Economy (with Hong Tan); and Globalization and Social Safety Nets in Asia-Pacific Region (with Vicente Paqueo and Harry Patrinos). Ms. Lopez-Acevedo has served as board member in international economic journals such as El Trimestre Economico and Economia Mexicana. Prior to joining the World Bank, Ms. Lopez-Acevedo worked as Director of Social Programs and Senior Adviser to the Vice Minister of Finance in the Mexican Ministry of Finance ( ). In this capacity, she was part of the team leading the analysis and design of the flagship program Progresa. She also served as Deputy Director in the Economic Deregulation Unit in the Ministry of Economy ( ). She taught economics in several Mexican universities including the Instituto de Alta Direccion de Empresas (I.P.A.D.E), the Centro de Investigacion y Docencia Economica (C.I.D.E), and Instituto Tecnologico Autonomo de Mexico (I.T.A.M). 2 Economist (LCSEP) Ms Lopez-Acevedo has led the analysis and policy dialogue on poverty, inequality, and labor markets in Mexico and in Colombia. She co-led the Mexico Poverty Program and the impact evaluation work in Colombia and Mexico, led and contributed to the preparation of Development Policy Loans, Investment Loans, and other operational work in Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, and Bolivia. She has contributed to the preparation of Country Assistance Strategies (CAS) for Mexico and Colombia. She has led department-initiated analytical tasks on key issues in the area of social welfare, including the economic analysis of lending and non-lending projects, design and use of surveys (household, firm, community, institutional, and qualitative) as part of the economic evaluation, appraisal and supervision process of projects. As economist in LCSEP, she contributed to the Mexico and Colombia Short Term Risk Group and the CMU s monthly Macro Monitoring. She has been the point person in the collaboration with local country teams, government and counterparts in the design of projects; public expenditures reviews, and analysis in the social sectors in Mexico and Colombia.
