The port of Abidjan is the main exit point for exports of cocoa beans, of which Ivory Coast is the world s top producer, and other commodities. It also handles most of the goods entering and exiting land-locked Mali, Burki Faso and Niger. The world s top cocoa producer is emerging from a three-month dry season and entering the rainy season, which begins with regular downpours in March. Farmers said the bulk of harvesting for the April-to-September mid-crop would take place in May, but that the crop would only yield significant volumes of cocoa from June to August. In the southern region of Divo, farmers said they expected the mid-crop to be as good as last year. The Emirates NBD Egypt Purchasing Magers Index (PMI) for the non-oil private sector fell to 49.7 from January s reading of 49.9, still below the 50 mark that separates growth from contraction. Reuters Egypt's M2 money supply up percent year-on-year in January: Egypt s M2 money supply was up percent at the end of January from a year earlier, central bank data showed last week. The money supply stood at 3.25 trillion Egyptian pounds ($185 billion), the bank said. Reuters Egypt net foreign reserves rise to $42.524bn after Eurobond sale: Egypt s foreign reserves rose to $ billion at the end of February from $ billion at the end of January, the central bank said last week, helped by a recent Eurobond sale. Cairo s foreign reserves have been climbing since the country secured a $12 billion three-year Intertiol Monetary Fund loan programme in 2016 as part of efforts to woo foreign investors and revive its ailing economy. Reuters Corporate News ADM, Cargill announce soybean joint venture in Egypt: Archer Daniels Midland has agreed to form a soybean joint venture in Egypt with fellow U.S. agricultural merchant Cargill to take advantage of strong demand for edible oil and livestock feed. The agreement will give ADM joint ownership of Cargill s soy crushing facility in Borg Al-Arab on the Mediterranean coast, the companies said in a statement last week. The major commodity exporter is seeking to cut spending and restructure debt, and aims to rrow consumer inflation to 8 percent, plus or minus 2 percentage points, this year under a credit deal with the Intertiol Monetary Fund. Reuters GHANA * AFRICA ** Gha to tighten controls on gold exports to protect revenues: Gha will certify the value of gold exports as part of efforts to tighten controls on the sector to ensure the state receives the revenues it is due, the vice president said last week. Gha, Africa s second largest gold miner after South Africa, earned $5.78 billion from exports of the metal last year, up 17.6 percent on 2016, central bank data showed. The bank also said it had cut its growth forecast for 2018 to 4 percent from 4.2 percent previously. Reuters Mauritius offers 10-year Treasury bond worth 1.9bn rupees: The Bank of Mauritius said on Wednesday it would auction a 10-year Treasury bond worth 1.9 billion rupees ($57.32 million) on March 7. The coupon rate will be set equal to, or higher than, the lowest accepted yield at auction, the bank added. The bank said in a statement it would receive bids up to June 15. The bond will be issued at par in multiples of 25,000 rupees to individuals (Mauritian Natiols only) and Non-Governmental Organizations up to a maximum investment amount of 5 million rupees per investor, whether singly or jointly, the central bank said. Successful debt sales, including multiple Eurobond offerings this month, have helped the government accrue billions of dollars in foreign reserves, although they remain far from the peak of $64 billion in August Reuters Nigeria capital inflow rose in Q4 as economy returned to growth: The value of capital imported into Nigeria rose 29.9 percent in the fourth quarter to $5.32 billion, as economic activity gathered pace after the first recession in a quarter century, the Natiol Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said last week. Capital imports stood at $12.2 billion for 2017, up from $5.38 billion previous year, the NBS said.
