CHAIRPERSON PROFILE Santhanasamy Subbiah has more than 30 years of experience in the field of financial and management accounting practices that encompasses Insurance, Banking, Manufacturing, Education, Security, Plantation, Shipping and Freight Forwarding. He was also with the Ministry of Works involved in special projects funded by the World Bank. Besides being in the corporate world he lectured MBA programme for the following universities: Open University Malaysia; University of NewCastle Australia; Herriot Watt University UK; Asia Pacific International University. He was also Dean for the School of Accounting and Finance with local university. His achievements include the successful implementation of the accounting system in icimb Bank. He was the man that setup the entire Finance Division of icimb Bank. He had in his early career joined the Finance Division of South East Asia Insurance and spearheaded the budget team and prepare the first ever budget in the history of the company. He also contributed valuable inputs during meetings with Ministry of Finance when GST was first conceived in Santhanasamy holds MBA majoring in Finance from University Putra Malaysia. 4 Conference Speakers Thenesh Kannaa is a partner of Thenesh, Renga & Associates (a.k.a TraTax Malaysia), a firm of chartered accountant dedicated to providing income tax and GST advisory. He is a licensed tax agent, both for Income Tax and GST and advises on GST to clients from diverse industries. Thenesh had presented in more than 100 conferences and seminars on numerous aspects of GST and is the author of CCH s Master GST Guide (2nd Edition,2015) as well as books on income tax and RPGT. He has also been a member of the Chartered Tax Institute of Malaysia s Technical Committee of Indirect Taxes. Jeyasingam Ratnasingam has vast experience and abundance of knowledge in the field of administration and enforcement of Malaysian Customs laws, regulation and related procedures. Having more than 35 years of experience with Customs Department, he retired as Senior Assistant Director of Customs in He has served hands-on in various divisions of the Department namely; the Import & Export at the Air Cargo Subang International Airport, Kuala Lumpur Sales Tax; Taiping Industries; Ipoh Industries / Free Industrial Zone and the Passenger Examination Division at the Penang International Airport. He was the Head of Customs of the Free Commercial Zone Div. at the Second Air Cargo Complex (MAB), Penang International Airport for 4 years and as the Head of Post Import Clearance Audit Div., Ipoh. He was also actively involved in the Subang International Airport Air Cargo User Task Force Team that developed the Customs Information System (SMK) in Upon retirement in 2011, he worked as Logistics and Compliance Manager with World Micro Components (M) Sdn Bhd., Second Air Cargo Div., Free Commercial Zone, Penang International Airport for 2 years. She had audited and consulted public listed companies and small and medium sized companies from various industries across the region. She had travelled to China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Singapore, Bangkok, USA, Australia and UK for work. Michelle had also lectured ACCA Paper 8 and Paper 9 Management Accounting at the Singapore Accountancy Academy, the teaching arm of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Singapore (ICPAS, now known as the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants). She had taught Financial Accounting, Management Accounting and ACCPAC accounting software at the Nanyang Technological University (NTU) Singapore. She was an examination marker for the accounting examination papers at NTU. She had won the best accounts award for an audit client awarded by ICPAS. GST is new in Malaysia.
