4 Speakers retired from private practise at the end of 2000 after 30 years with Ince & Co, the internationally renowned law firm specialising in maritime law. He was a partner for 25 years and was chairman of the firm s dry shipping business group specialising in carriage of goods, charter parties and P&I issues. He was regularly consulted both by private clients and also by UN agencies and other international bodies in relation to industry-wide issues. He is the author of numerous articles on shipping law and is co author of the standard text book Limitation of Liability for Maritime Claims published by Lloyds of London Press (4th edition 2005). He is now a consultant to Ince & Co and a Visiting Professor teaching maritime law at Swansea University. Professor Thomas is Professor of Maritime Law and Director of the Institute of International Shipping and Trade Law at Swansea University. He is a member of the Comité Maritime International, British Maritime Law Association (BMLA), Chartered Institute of Arbitrators and the British Insurance Law Association. He specialises in shipping and international trade law, and has wide international experience as a lecturer. His publications are extensive and his book titles include Maritime Liens, Law and Practice of Appeals from Arbitration Awards and Default Powers of Arbitrators. He is also editor of the Modern Law of Maritime Insurance Vols 1 and 2, Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of International Maritime Law and an editor of Arbitration International. He is chairman of the BMLA Standing Committee on Mortgages and Ship Arrest. Organiser Peter Grube Peter Grube joined BIMCO in His first position in BIMCO was in the Services Department, assisting members with a wide range of issues, including retrieval of funds and providing members with company background information. In 2000, he was appointed Marketing & Sales Director of BIMCO, responsible for promoting and driving forward BIMCO s global position as a leading membership and shipping interest organisation Over the years, he has been project manager a wide range of BIMCO events, including the BIMCO General Meetings in Beijing, Barcelona, Copenhagen and Hong Kong In 2005 Peter transferred to BIMCO Education and have been involved in the planning, coordination and general logistics for BIMCO Courses, Seminars and Conferences since as Senior Education Officer. He delivers the courses world-wide, often speaking on issues related to BIMCO s activities. In April 2009 he added the position as Chief PR Officer in BIMCO to his tasks, coordinating the communication, contacts and interactions the organization have with shipping as well as general media. Prior to joining BIMCO Peter worked in ship owning as well as Sale & Purchase in Piraeus, Greece. He has graduated from the Danish School for International Marketing & Export and is a Chartered Shipbroker (FICS).

5 Venue Where will the course be held? Courses are held in central Rotterdam at a suitable conference hotel. The venue will be confirmed approximately 8 weeks prior to the course start to ensure the most appropriate room for the size of the class is selected.

The workshops will provide participants with a thorough grounding in the principles and pitfalls of each core subject. The workshops are designed for participants who already have some shipping experience and who wish to broaden their knowledge of a particular topic within the shipping industry. As such, the workshops are well suited to the development of existing and future decision makers who require a solid grounding in the mechanics of modern commercial practice. Each workshop in the series consists of three days of presentations by the finest experts, combined with group discussions and case studies. Participants are expected and will be encouraged to contribute actively to both the group discussions and case studies. At the end of each workshop, participants may take an open book exam to assess their level of understanding of the subject matter. This assessment, which is assessed and marked by the course presenters and leads to the award of a BIMCO diploma, will be of value to employers and employees alike in demonstrating the effectiveness of the training and knowledge attained.
