1 Vamos Adelante Project First Graduation Model Pilot Program in Mexico. Balance of Results September 2017
2 Projecto Proposal General Objective: Contribute to overcome extreme poverty in a sustainable manner in 7 communities in the Central Southern región of Yucatan within 2 years extrema en 7 comunidades del centro Sur de Yucatán en el plazo de 2 años. Specific Objectives Priority Strategy Graduation Indicators Strengthen human and social capacities to overcome the adverse conditions of homes in extreme poverty. Training and organization for savings and credit groups Strengthening the self-esteem of the participant. (Mayan Women y PWDs) Savings equivalent to 18 weeds Participation in a savings group. Degree of empowerment of women / PCD. Improve the quality of life of participating families. Improvement to family feeding Zero incidence of hunger situations in the home. Increase the income of households in extreme poverty in a sustainable Increase the income of households in extreme poverty in a sustainable way. 3 Graduation Model
4 Target Population: The pilot is carried out with 170 Mayan families in extreme poverty. 95% of the participants are women. We work with 51 families with People with Disabilities 21 PWD participate directly in the project.
5 Strategy # 1: Savings and Loans Group The situation at the beginning of the project: 82% of the participants do not have savings of any kind. 100% of the participants did not belong to a savings group, Actions carried out: Training workshops and constant support for savings and credit groups Results Up to date: 170 mayan families in extreme poverty participate in 9 organized savings groups. 34% of the families have reached the goal of saving 18 minimum wages. We hope that 70% of the families will reach this goal by the end of the savings cycle.
6 Strategy # 2: Improve Family Feeding Situación when starting the project: When we arrived in the region, 91% of the households we worked with had gone through a situation of hunger in the three months prior to the baseline. 80% of households with minors had a hunger situation in their children, in the three months prior to the baseline. Actions carried out: Alliance with HEIFER and UAAAN for training workshops on various topics of agroecology and ethno-veterinary; provision of incubators, and other inputs and materials for the production of food in the home. Nutrition and food preparation workshops (in association with HEIFER) Home visits for technical support on food production. Results up to date: 64% of the families we work with have NOT experienced any hunger situation in the home, in the 3 months prior to monitoring. Only 15% of households with minors have had a hunger situation in their children in the 3 months prior to the monitoring
7 Estrategy # 3: Increase the Family Income Situation when starting project: 82% of households did not have enough income to fully cover the basic needs of the household. Actions carried out: Accompaniment for the design of a life plan and design of a family income project. Seed Capital Delivery. Home visits for technical / administrative support for the installation and development of the family income project Results up to Date: 70% of participants have a profitable productive activity. (It maintains, generates income to the home and grows gradually). 95% of participants already have a sufficient income to cover the basic needs of the household and are constant in their savings
8 Strategy # 4: Capacity Building and Self-esteem Strenghtening Situation when starting the project: 89% of the participants had never participated in a meeting with neighbors to discuss a community problem and 99% had never done a group management before the local authorities. Only 21% of participants made decisions about their own health and participated in decisions about important household expenses. Acciones realizadas: Home visits to identify causes of non-attendance, provide sufficient information and motivate participation. Promote self-management actions and solidarity in the group. Human development workshops. Regional meeting to exchange experiences. Results up to date: 98% of the participants have already participated in a meeting to talk about a community problem and 46% of the participants have already made a deal with the local authority. 28% of participants already make decisions about their own health and about extraordinary expenses at home.

10 Consolidation Actions November 2017 to April 2018 Strategy Savings and Credit Feeding Family Income Developmento of Capacities and Selfesteem CONSOLIDATION ACTIONS Capacity building for the registration of savings in other members of the groups to ensure their autonomy. Workshops for review and strengthening of internal regulations. Boosting family food production. Accompany chain passes (with HEIFER). Accompany reinvestment in cases of income projects that have not been profitable. Encourage the articulation of cooperatives by productive theme for example beekeepers. Strengthen issues of human development and gender equity. Impulse to self-management, own work spaces, push own initiatives, new topics of interest to the group.
